Jordan Mechner remaking Karateka for PSN, XBLA

Jordan Mechner, known best for his creation of the Prince of Persia series, has announced that he will be remaking his 1984 hit, Karateka.

Developed in his dorm room at Yale and published by Broderbund, Karateka took the PC gaming world by storm with its “simple, addictive 2D fighting mechanics that incorporated cinematic storytelling through fluid, lifelike animation.”

Mechner will be taking on the role of creative director on this project. “Making the original Karateka was a labor of love. To have so many people embrace it and share the impact that game had on them has been incredibly fulfilling. In remaking Karateka, I want to honor the original with a compact, pick-up-and-play game that is fluid, atmospheric and beautiful,” said Mechner.

Watch out for the remake of Karateka later this year on the PSN and XBLA.
