The Games of August 2012

Things are getting hot in the month of August! And no, we’re not talking about the weather, but rather the awesome lineup of games coming out. Here at Warp Zoned, we’re hoping to get our hands on one of the Operation Rainfall darlings, The Last Story, as well as the long-awaited Sleeping Dogs, and the much-hyped Darksiders II. Read on to see what we’ll be playing for the next few weeks!

Darksiders II, Sleeping Dogs, and New Super Mario Bros. 2. I imagine you’re going to see those titles a lot in this look forward at the final month of Summer. And why not? Darksiders II looks to be filled with plenty of epic demon-on-demon action. Sleeping Dogs has nailed the look and feel of the gritty international crime saga (complete with it’s intriguing Hong Kong locale). And New Super Mario Bros. 2 is New Super Mario Bros. 2.

Finally, I’m also looking forward to Transformers: Fall of Cybertron. I never got to play the first game in the series, but with the inclusion of Grimlock and plenty of… ahem… robot-on-robot action, I’m ready to roll out.

Yowza. August is just loaded with games I want to play to death! Going in order, there’s Sound Shapes, which looks rad. Then there’s The Last Story, which I’m excited about, but mostly because I can’t wait for Pandora’s Tower! Papa & Yo looks awesome as well, and don’t get me started on Sleeping Dogs! I’ve been smitten with that game since it was True Crime: Hong Kong, and then not a game, and then a game again.

Those games should keep me busy, considering all I’ve been doing lately is trying to wrap up Chrono Trigger, and get into shape with a little Just Dance. Good thing, too, because it took me 20 minutes to figure out how to reconnect my Wii, part of which involved finding new batteries for my WiiMote. Ha! Batteries in controllers. How quaint!

Oh August – I can tell you’re going to be a pain because after you, the Fall release schedule starts, and well – we all know where that goes. Anyway, Persona 4 Arena looks interesting, despite the fact that I’m not a big fan of fighting games. I might still give that one a shot, because I mean, come on: Smash Bros. was fun, right? Sound Shapes has already been pre-ordered on PSN by yours truly, and I think it’s going to be nice to have a new kind of platformer around. I’m a sucker for music-related games.

August 14th is going to destroy me, with the releases of Darksiders II, The Last Story, Papo & Yo, and Sleeping Dogs. Each of these games has something completely different to bring to the table, but I’ve been following them all for quite a while. New Super Mario Bros. 2 is just a Mario game, but I guess I won’t be able to help buying it if I plan on getting that 3DS XL around the same time… and to think, I told myself I’d get it when the price dropped.

Ragnarok Odyssey has also been pre-ordered. If you read my Vita article, you know that I have enough games to play, but surely another RPG can’t hurt. Finally, The Ratchet & Clank Collection has been a long-awaited release as well. I’ve played the first game, but wouldn’t mind playing all three of these in glorious, glorious HD.
