Criterion planning another Burnout, might do Road Rash or another FPS too
In an insightful interview with UK newspaper The Guardian, Criterion Creative Director Craig Sullivan and Vice President Alex Ward have laid down one possible future for the company currently known for its outstanding entry in EA’s Need For Speed franchise. While most of the article discusses their upcoming return to that world in Need For Speed: Most Wanted, along with how the team create their worlds and their obsession with cars, the pair do touch on what lies ahead for the studio. Judging by what Sullivan said, he is keen to return to “battle racing” with another entry in the Burnout series:
“There’s still a lot of stuff we want to do with driving,” [Sullivan said]. “We will make another Burnout game at some point. Obviously, as we’re working on NFS we’re thinking of really good ideas that aren’t right for this series; there are ideas that we’re going to explore with Burnout.”
Sullivan also discussed the developer’s past, citing their work on Black and joked the company may return to making first person shooters, or rather, “a game about blowing the crap out of each other.” But the true hint seems to lie in his last words. Having experimented with motorbikes in the Burnout Paradise downloadable content, Criterion might next tackle a reboot of biking classic Road Rash.
According to Sullivan, “Road Rash seems like a good fit for Criterion…”
