The Games of October 2012

There are some good games coming out this month, and we here at Warp Zoned are excited about a few of them. Some of us are clinging to Borderlands 2, though – spending as much time fighting our way through the game as possible. What can I say? Handsome Jack is just that despicable. Read on to find out what might pull us away from Pandora as we figure out what we want to play in October.

The original X-Com wasn’t on my radar back in 1994, but October’s XCOM: Enemy Unknown certainly is. After watching a demonstration of the strategy game at PAX East, I’ve been keeping a look out for any new information. And now that it’s here I can’t wait. Even though I first played it back in 2004, I’m also eagerly awaiting Doom 3: BFG Edition. I never got as deep into it as I would have liked and the lure of Doom 3 Achievements is just too much to pass up.

And finally, I hope 007 Legends is good.

Luckily, the only game I really want, Medal of Honor: Warfighter, won’t be out until later this month. That means more Borderlands 2 for me! I have been playing it as much as possible, and I’m still not tired of it. In fact, I find myself looking forward to getting home and firing up my PS3 just to jump back in and hear what haikus Zer0 has to say this time. Other than that, the only game I’m really excited about is Pokemon Black/White 2. I played Black the first time around, so I might switch it up and play White this time. We’ll see!

IT’S MY BIRTHDAY! IT’S MY BIRTHDAY! GO ANDY! IT’S YOUR BIRTHDAY!

Later this month anyway (the 22nd, cards can be sent to Scotland). I am very, very tempted to ask for Assassin’s Creed III, but I may hold out to pick it up on the Wii U. Dishonored is on my birthday wish list, however; I have literally been salivating over the gorgeously rendered steampunk setting of Dunwall. That and Zone of the Enders HD Collection, as I never owned a PlayStation 2 and so missed it on its original release.

Did I mention it’s my birthday?

I’m torn on October. On one hand, I can spend the entire month (and then some) combing the vast wasteland that is Pandora in Borderlands 2. But on the other hand, there’s Resident Evil 6. I really want to complete the former, but the latter is oh-so-compelling. As much as I want to play through Resident Evil 6, part of me is saying, “Hey, Mike. Remember Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition? You’ve got too many games in your backlog as it is. Wait another six months; it’ll be worth it. And I reply, “yeah, but it’s Resident Evil“. And my other half says, “Think of the money you’ll be saving by waiting. Plus you get the total package”. Yeah, I got a real Harvey Dent thing going with this game. Truth be told, I’ll probably wait, at least until Okami HD releases.
