The Games of August 2013

gamesof0813-header

We’ve got a lot of gaming planned for the month of August here at Warp Zoned! Most of us plan on playing DuckTales Remastered – that one almost seems like a no-brainer! Read on to see what else will be cramping our thumbs this month.

Woo hoo! One of my favorite games from my childhood, Ducktales Remastered, is being re-released by Capcom in glorious high definition. I’ve got my lucky dime ready and I plan to pogo like I’ve never pogoed before as I fill my money bin alongside “Unca” Scrooge.

I’m also looking forward to a few other titles this month including Killer Is Dead (after Lollipop Chainsaw, Suda 51 owns my soul), The Bureau: XCOM Declassified (the 1960s G-Man vibe look fantastic), and Saints Row IV (my brain is still trying to comprehend all the awesome that Volition has crammed into the game’s trailers).

Yes, the Summer may have been short on new games, but it looks like things are starting to heat up in August.

This month is going to be all about playing more Dragon’s Crown with Anthony, as well as trying to finish up Saints Row The Third so I can get Saints Row IV. I’m also really excited about Beatbuddy, an adorable platformer I loved at PAX East. That’s all I’m planning on doing for the month of August, other than, once again, dipping back into my backlog and trying to finish up Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch (I’ll finish it one of these days!).

Ooof! After the drought of July, August has a flood of awesome titles. Pikmin 3 is a day one purchase. It has been too long since the second game. However, as much as I love all things Disney, Disney Infinity looks to me like a massive cash grab of movie tie-ins thinly disguised as Skylanders.

I’m making it a digital-only month, what with the re-release of one of my favourite games, Flashback. On top of this is the utterly brutal platformer Cloudberry Kingdom hitting the Wii U eShop alongside Ducktales Remastered. As soon as you read that, you heard the theme tune, right? If only someone could embed it…

There we go.

I agree, I’m going digital-only this month. This is amazing. Two of my favorite games from when I was a young ‘un, DuckTales Remastered and Flashback, are getting the HD remake treatment. I am in gamer heaven. All we need is remakes of Out of This World and Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver and I’ll die a happy man.

I’m also excited about Divekick. The fighting game community seems to accept it as a deep game, and having only two buttons to control your fighter makes it… fascinating. Finally, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows looks to be pretty fun. As a huge fan of the characters (you should really check out the new comic series, by the way), I’m hoping for the best.
