The Games of September 2013

gamesofseptember2013-header

The dog days are over and the Fall gaming avalanche is here. A few key titles dominate the September release schedule (Grand Theft Auto V and Diablo III, mostly) but there’s a ton of quirkier fare out there for those who are willing to look for it. And you can tell that it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas with all the re-releases of old favorites that dot the schedule. What is the Warp Zoned staff most excited for in September? Hit the jump and find out.

I skip over a lot of the major titles, but this month I’m purposely seeking out those big buys. I’m referring, of course, to Grand Theft Auto IV and the console version of Diablo III. As an almost exclusive console gamer, I definitely skip over the biggest PC titles. My 2010 “Best Buy Special” just can’t handle them. But I love action RPGs in the vein of Diablo III. So even though it’s two years old, I’m excited that Diablo III will spend a healthy amount in my PS3/Xbox 360. And what can you say about Grand Theft Auto V that hasn’t already been said? It looks to be the biggest game the series has ever seen and the heavy focus on heists in the trailers has my action movie sense tingling.

Oh, and I’m absolutely giddy for Angry Birds Star Wars II and I don’t care who knows it.

My Wii U is going to be busy this month, because I am so getting The Wonderful 101, and given the strong word of mouth Rayman Legends is getting (especially the Wii U version), the gorgeous platformer may also have to be bought.

I think that’s it… no wait… I’m sure there’s one more.

Oh, yeah… GRAND THEFT AUTO V!!!

I am always a sucker for well-animated 2D sidescrollers, so Rayman Legends is definitely at the top of my list. I recently purchased Rayman Origins during a PSN sale, and I’m loving it – so the sequel wll be sure to satisfy. I’m bound to get a lot of hate mail from this, but I never played the original Kingdom Hearts, so diving into Kingdom Hearts 1.5 ReMix may be a wise idea. Finally, NHL 14 looks really fun based solely on the inclusion of NHL 94 mode.

With the quality of games coming out over the next few months, it really looks like our current-gen consoles are going out with a bang.
