The Games of February 2014

gamesoffebruary2014-header

It’s February already, which means lots of things, like Valentine’s Day, IndieCade East, and, of course, a slew of new video games! We’re all over the map here at Warp Zoned, but it looks like we’re almost unanimously agreed on one thing: we can’t wait for Outlast. But other than that, we’re pretty diversified in our choices! Read on to find out what we’re planning on playing through another cold winter month.

EDF! EDF! EDF!

I know they’re ridiculous and a little bargain basement-y, but I love D3’s Earth Defense Force series. 2007’s EDF 2017 was a ton of goofy fun, as was 2011’s EDF: Insect Armageddon spinoff. And now that original developer Sandlot is back for this month’s Earth Defense Force 2025, you won’t be able to tear me away from my Xbox 360 (it’s also coming to the PS3). Who needs the so-called “Next Generation,” anyway?

OK, we probably do need the next generation consoles because they give us things like Outlast on the PS4. I missed Outlast on the PC, but the game’s ultra-creepy vibe is one I’ve wanted to dive into since Red Barrels announced it last year.

But with Pac-Man Museum (a collection of nine classic and never-before-seen Pac-Man games) also coming out this month, I’m going to spend the majority of my time with the last generation consoles.

I’m not going to lie: the game I’m most excited about this month is Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII. I absolutely adore Lightning, and I can’t wait to see what’s in store for her. I am thinking about getting Bravely Default, even though I didn’t love the demo. There was just way too much grinding, which gave me horrible Four Heroes of Light flashbacks. I’m really looking forward to the PS4 version of Outlast as well – I need a good scary game to keep me on my toes every once in a while!

DONKEY KONG! DONKEY KONG! DONKEY KONG! DONKEY KONG!

That is all. [Ed. Note: Andrew is referring to Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze. Apparently, it excites him]

I cannot wait to play Outlast! This is one of the reasons I got a PS4, and having it free on PlayStation Plus only sweetens the deal. There’s nothing better than playing a good survival horror game with the lights out and the surround sound cranked. Good times. The only other game I’m looking forward to playing is the next-gen version of Rayman Legends. Having recently completed – and loved – Rayman Origins, I can’t wait to give this one a whirl.
