PlayStation Store Today: Amplitude, Rebel Galaxy, Volume for Vita, more

Sony has delivered the first PlayStation Store update of the new year and fans of Harmonix’s brand of music-based button-mashing should be very pleased, as the developer released Amplitude for the PS4 today. And in case you were wondering, the trippy visuals support an even trippier story… “Take a trip through the expansive human mind as you seek to awaken your comatose patient and expand her perceptions.”

Also available this week for the PS4 is Rebel Galaxy, Double Damage’s “swashbuckling space adventure” that’s filled with space combat, extraterrestrial exploration, and a bounty of space pirates.

Finally this week, Vita owners can look forward to Mike Bithell’s Volume. If you’ve already purchased the stealth game on the PS4, the Vita version can be yours for free.

More information on all of these games (and a few other new release) can be found after the break. And, as always, a complete rundown of this week’s new game add-ons and discounts are available at the PlayStation Blog.

PS4 Games

Amplitude ($19.99)
Amplitude features a single player campaign presented as a 15-song sci-fi concept album with a narrative that surfaces through the game’s visuals, music, and lyrics. Take a trip through the expansive human mind as you seek to awaken your comatose patient and expand her perceptions.

Rebel Galaxy ($19.99)
Rebel Galaxy is a swashbuckling space adventure, with action-packed combat, exploration, discovery, trade, and “negotiation” with the outlandish denizens at the edge of the known universe.

As the commander of an immensely powerful star destroyer, you’ll battle pirates, explore anomalies, befriend aliens, scavenge battle wreckage, mine asteroids, and discover artifacts. Choose your path as a roguish do-gooder, crafty space-trader or power-hungry privateer – or maybe a little of each! Buy larger and more powerful craft with your hard-earned credits, and outfit them with a variety of wicked weapons and defenses. Set in a galaxy of fantastic sights, and secrets to be found, Rebel Galaxy is above all a space epic of adventure, exploration, and combat.

Hardware: Rivals ($19.99)
Jump into your Tank or Fast Attack Vehicle and unleash devastation in online arenas packed with missiles, lasers, bombs and awesome special weapons. Customize your hardware with add-ons, upgrades and your favorite skins. Seek out your Rivals and avenge your friends.

Super Toy Cars ($9.99)
Super Toy Cars is a tabletop arcade combat racing game featuring fast and cool looking cars, impressive tracks made of everyday objects and a bunch of power-ups that will let you destroy your opposition. Collect all cars and upgrades to keep up with competition while you progress in career mode or have a quick race either against AI opponents or against friends. You can play up to four players locally.

Act It Out! A Game of Charades ($14.99)
Everyone’s favorite word-guessing party game is now available on your TV! Act out the secret phrase and let the other players in your living room guess what it is. And for maximum entertainment the game also has additional modes where you have to sing, draw or describe the hidden phrase.

PS Vita Games

Volume ($19.99)
An arsenal of gadgets await discovery in a quest to rob from the rich and give to the unheard. Sneaking, distracting, avoiding. Locksley is never seen, and seldom heard. As he grows in popularity and notoriety, so will his inventory.
