The Games of February 2016

February is really shaping up to be a great month for gamers, especially those who enjoy RPGs on the 3DS. Here at Warp Zoned, we can mostly agree on one thing, and that’s Fire Emblem Fates! Read on to see what else we plan on playing while we eat our Valentine’s Day candy.

I was always more of a Mortal Kombat guy, but I have to admit, Street Fighter V looks pretty interesting. Capcom’s decision to add a Story Mode to the game is clearly a direct response to what NetherRealm is doing with the genre, and most of the characters look suitably bonkers (though Ken’s old man ponytail is still a little sad). Speaking of suitably bonkers, that moniker could also apply to Unravel, EA’s puzzle platformer. Yarny is a great concept for a character and the game’s environments are absolutely beautiful.

Finally, I’m mildly intrigued by Far Cry: Primal as I’ve always wondered what a first person shooter set in the distant past would look like. But the distant past doesn’t have soccer playing trucks, so a chance to try out Rocket League on the Xbox One is also a high priority this month.

There’s so much great stuff to look forward to this month. I’m really excited that Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime is coming to PlayStation 4, and even more excited that We Are Doomed is coming to Vita! I cannot wait to try that out. Other than that, I’m hype on both Project X Zone 2 and Fire Emblem Fates, though I really wish I’d gotten the special edition of the latter. Not that I need more special editions, but that one would have been nice!

There are so many great titles coming out in February… believe it or not, too many for my girlfriend to buy me for Valentine’s Day.

I think the one I am most in love with is Firewatch, which, despite its humble beginnings, seems to be pushing the idea of storytelling in video games closer to film, and looks to be an engaging, thrilling single-player adventure. Another game I want to pick up as soon as possible is Unravel, which looks to take the cuteness of Yoshi’s Woolly World and mixes it with an emotional storyline that is something more akin to Pixar than EA.

Also, I’m excited about Street Fighter V, simply because it’s Street Fighter.

I, too, am interested in Firewatch. I love it when you discover the stories to games through exploration, and this game looks to scratch exactly where I itch. And although I’m not too heavy into RPGs, I’m also interested in Fire Emblem Fates and Project X Zone 2.
