The Games of April 2016

gamesofapril-header

There are some excited games coming out in April, and Warp Zoned is ready to play them! It seems the biggest focus here is Dark Souls III, but Star Fox Zero has more than a few staffers ready to take flight in an Arwing. Read on to find out what our plans our for the month of April!

Three games are striking my fancy this month and not a single one of them is Dark Souls III (because I just started on the first one).

Enter the Gungeon will be available on April 5th and the twin-stick shooter is right up my alley. The art style is fantastic, the guns are goofy and plentiful, and it’s ridiculously difficult. I’m also looking forward to the console debut of Lichdom: Battlemage because I’ve been looking for another magic-based first person shooter since the late 90s.

Finally this month, the return Fox McCloud and the rest of Team Star Fox in Star Fox Zero has me giddy like Slippy. Star Fox 64 is one of those games that I played over and over again back in the day, and I’ll always barrel roll my way into a new entry in the series.

I’m sad to say that there’s not much I’m excited for game-wise this month! I’m really interested in checking out Enter the Gungeon, but I have a feeling I’m going to be terrible at it. Other than that, there are games I’d love to be hype for, like Bravely Second: End Layer and Dark Souls III, but their predecessors are still in my backlog.

Also, I have so many events this month that I don’t think I’ll have time for much gaming! At least, not this kind of gaming. I’ll be at UnPub 6 in Baltimore this weekend, and PAX East later this month. So plenty of gaming, just no new retail hits for now!

There are two day-one purchases for me this month: Dark Souls III and Star Fox Zero. Both are sequels to games I absolutely love, some more recently than others. I have literally just finished Dark Souls II, which was a lot more linear than the original, with easier bosses as well, so I am hoping the third adventure proves to be as frustratingly difficult as the first. And Star Fox… I have missed you, old friend.

I am excited to see the Ratchet and Clank movie, so the Ratchet and Clank game has definitely caught my eye. I’ve never played the originals, so this would be a good time to get into the series. I am also a huge fan of the Star Fox series, but I’m kind of concerned about Star Fox Zero’s production issues. I’ll probably wait to pick it up, but I really, really hope it’s good.

Like Andrew, I’m very excited to check out Dark Souls III. Bloodborne didn’t do it for me the way Souls games previously have, so I’m hoping that Dark Souls III will deliver some of what I felt was missing from Bloodborne. Whether Dark Souls III is marred by my recent experience with Salt and Sanctuary remains to be seen.

I’ve also heard great things about Invisible Inc, so I’m looking forward to checking that out when it comes out later this month on the PS4.
