Xbox Store Today: We Happy Few, Hyper Light Drifter, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 1+2, more

Xbox One Game Preview fans will definitely want to pay attention to today’s Xbox Games Store update, which includes the official early release of Compulsion’s We Happy Few, a drug-fuelled trip through the 1960s in a retrofuturistic city in England.

Speaking of “retro,” Heart Machine unleashed their overhead action RPG Hyper Light Drifter on the Xbox One. The “Zeldalike” features a unique graphical style, along with “enemies [that] are vicious and numerous” and “hazards [that] will easily crush your frail body.” Slightly less retro is Activision’s Xbox One re-release of Marvel: Ultimate Alliance and Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2, a pair of action RPGs that were originally released for the Xbox 360. Both games are available separately or in a two-game bundle.

Finally this week, Telltale continues Minecraft: Story Mode with the seventh episode, Access Denied. It’s available to download for both the Xbox One and Xbox 360.

You can find more information on all of these (and a few other new releases) after the break.

Game Preview… We Happy Few ($29.99)
We Happy Few is the tale of a plucky bunch of moderately terrible people trying to escape from a lifetime of cheerful denial in the city of Wellington Wells. Set in a drug-fuelled, retrofuturistic city in an alternative 1960s England, you’ll have to blend in with its other inhabitants, who don’t take kindly to people who don’t abide by their not-so-normal rules.

Hyper Light Drifter ($19.99)
Echoes of a dark and violent past resonate throughout a savage land, steeped in treasure and blood. Hyper Light Drifter is an action adventure RPG in the vein of the best 16-bit classics, with modernized mechanics and designs on a much grander scale. Easy to pick up, difficult to master; enemies are vicious and numerous, hazards will easily crush your frail body, and friendly faces remain rare.

Dungeon Punks ($14.99)
Dungeon Punks is a fast paced Action RPG with a unique Tag-Team fighting system and Local Player vs. Player Brawl Mode. Adventure awaits whether you’re going solo, playing with friends, or beating each other to a pulp in one of the many battle arenas! Total mayhem is bound to break loose as you blast your enemies senseless with crazy magical spells and custom combo attacks.

Marvel: Ultimate Alliance ($39.99)
Marvel: Ultimate Alliance lets players create their ultimate team from the largest Super Hero alliance ever as they engage in an epic quest to determine the fate of the Marvel Universe. Players can control their own completely unique team by selecting from the largest roster of legendary Super Heroes ever assembled in one game. Through the epic campaign, the heroes will battle, team-up, and interact with over 140 characters from the Marvel Universe and ultimately confront notorious villains.

Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2 ($39.99)
The Marvel Universe is being torn apart. The Superhuman Registration Act becomes law and Super Heroes must register as weapons of mass destruction, becoming licensed government agents. As Civil War is stirred, Iron Man leads the Pro-Registration side while Captain America spearheads the stand on Anti-Registration. The enemies you battle and the missions you accomplish depend on which side you choose.

Minecraft: Story Mode – Episode 7: Access Denied ($4.99)
Continuing their portal journey in search of home, Jesse and crew land in a world entirely controlled by PAMA – a sinister “thinking machine” determined to command everyone and everything in pursuit of optimal usefulness and efficiency. Forced on the run to avoid capture and assimilation, you’ll need to work with a new ally to defeat the corrupted computer and free the population it has enslaved.

Action News Heroes ($9.99)
No longer able to protect their own interests, Network X hires a rag tag group of mercenaries who’ve been tasked with eradicating Sabre. Your job is to destroy Sabre on live TV as Network X’s top hit news program, Action News Heroes. Put on a good show to boost Network X’s ratings, and discover why Sabre has a sudden interest in destroying Network X.
