If you’re a fan of retro gaming, then today’s a good day to visit the Nintendo eShop. Three games from Nintendo’s illustrious past are now available to download through their digital storefront.

Let’s start with the Wii U eShop, and that’s because owners of Nintendo’s home console are now able to download Wave Race 64, one of the best games from the Nintendo 64’s launch period. An argument could even be made that it’s one of the best games ever released for the Nintendo 64, period. Also available to download this week is Mario Sports Mix, a mash-up of hockey, basketball, volleyball, and dodgeball that was originally released for the Wii in 2010.

Jumping over to the 3DS eShop, we find that Mega Man X, the first Mega Man game released for the Super NES all the way back in 1993, is now available to download for Nintendo’s handheld. Fans love the game’s colorful new characters and more mature storyline, and the brutal difficulty will provide a challenge for even the toughest players.

More details on all of these games (and a few other new releases) can be found after the break.

Wave Race 64 – Choose one of four characters, each with his or her own unique abilities and style, and master the game’s excellent controls. Make your way through nine courses, each with its own challenges. Take a break from racing to try the Stunt Mode. Polish your skills pulling off handstands, rolls and flips.

Mario Sports Mix – The game presents four familiar sports – hockey, basketball, volleyball, dodgeball – but with a Mario twist. Players can choose from a variety of playable Mushroom Kingdom characters or play as their own Mii characters. In any sport, power-ups can turn the tide of a game in an instant. And in over-the-top Mario sports fashion, each character can unleash a special move.

Tadpole Treble – Get ready for a creative adventure as you swim through sheet music and avoid the notes of the game’s catchy soundtrack. Along the way, you’ll encounter massive bosses, fully sung songs and plenty of unlockables, as well as an intuitive full stage/song creation mode using the Wii U GamePad controller.

Surfin’ Sam: Attack of the Aqualites – The weather is perfect, the waves are high, the sun is shining…and there is an INVADING ALIEN RACE OF AQUATIC CREATURES THREATENING TO TERRA-FORM THE EARTH INTO A PLANET OF SEA CREATURES! Yep, just another day for our hero, Surfin’ Sam.

360 Breakout – 360 Breakout is a breakout game out of the ordinary. Offers single-player, two player co-op and two player Vs mode. Play through 20 exciting levels on your own or together with a friend while aiming for a new high score.

Mega Man X – Hundreds of years after his death, Dr. Light’s final creation is discovered. Now, the future lies on the brink of destruction and X must use all of his newfound powers and abilities to hunt down the maverick Reploids and their leader, Sigma, before the human race is wiped from the planet.

Ambition of the Slimes – Ambition of the Slimes is a turn-based strategy RPG that controls the slimes to battle. Different kinds of slimes have their own abilities, you have to choose the proper slime to take over the enemy and consider how to battle with them. Many tactics can be used in battle and your choice is the key to victory. Try another method if you cannot defeat your enemy because the slimes are too weak to battle by themselves.
