Nintendo Download: Severed, SMT4 Apocalypse, River City Tokyo Rumble, more
Summer might be over, but the Nindies Summer Jam rolls on with today’s selection… Severed. Available to download now for the Wii U, Severed is a touchscreen-based game from DrinkBox Studios where players take control of “a one-armed warrior named Sasha who wields a living sword” as she goes on a journey through “a nightmare world” in search of her family. Also available to download through the Wii U Shop this week is the slightly-more-normal Donkey Kong Country Returns, a side-scrolling platformer that was originally released for the Wii in 2010.
But “normal” is definitely not the word to describe Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse, an RPG now available to download for the 3DS. Players take control of a novice demon hunter who must battle for the very soul of humanity in a post-apocalyptic Tokyo… as one does.
Finally this week, a trio of beat ’em ups prove the genre is alive and well on the 3DS. First up, Final Fight 2 and Final Fight 3 made the jump from the Super NES to the handheld’s Virtual Console service. And River City: Tokyo Rumble will resurrect the famed franchise in a brand new adventure beginning on September 27.
More information on all of these games (and a few other new releases) can be found after the break.
Wii U eShop
Severed – Take control of a one-armed warrior named Sasha who wields a living sword on her journey through a nightmare world in search of her family. Features include Wii U Off-TV Play, in-game achievements and HD graphical optimizations.
Donkey Kong Country Returns – Donkey Kong Island has been taken over by the musical Tiki Tak Tribe! In this Wii platforming classic, jump, swing and blast your way through more than 65 levels spanning eight worlds. There are many hidden items to uncover in each level, and collecting them all will unlock something special. Invite a friend to take control of Diddy Kong for two-player cooperative play.
Wings of Magloryx – As Magloryx the dragon, you will use flight, spells, and combat to destroy castles, rescue peasants, collect gold, and reclaim your five stolen relics. Each of the five worlds offers a distinct setting and a new challenge. Collected gold can be used to purchase spells and upgrades that will assist you throughout the game, especially during challenging boss fights. Can you help Magloryx reclaim his treasures and return home? Can you restore peace to the HoverRealms?
Double Breakout – Double Breakout is a breakout game for one or two players combining game mechanics from a traditional breakout game and a pong game.
Laser Blaster – Protect your planet from waves of enemy lasers coming from the sky. Touch the Wii U GamePad screen to launch missiles and shoot the lasers down before they reach the surface. Buy upgrades from the upgrade shop to have faster and more powerful rockets. Earn the highest score possible before they destroy your last launcher station. Commander you are our last hope!
Titans Tower – In Titans Tower, jump the walls of the castle tower grabbing as much LOOT as you can. Many obstacles will stand in your way, but the reward is very big. Catch power-ups along the way to enhance your journey while capturing a high score!
Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse – The Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse game is now available exclusively for the Nintendo 3DS system. The protagonist is a novice demon hunter in the ruins of Tokyo who meets an untimely end, only to find himself returned to the world of the living by the lesser god Dagda to serve as a pawn in his schemes … with humankind as the prize!
Final Fight 2 – In the second chapter of the beat-’em-up Super NES classic, the Final Fight 2 game will take Haggar back to the streets of Metro City. Accompanied by Maki and Carlos, he will travel across the world and fight to end Mad Gear Gang’s reign once and for all…
Final Fight 3 – In the third chapter of the Super NES Final Fight series, a new enemy has arisen by the name of Skull Cross. Join Haggar, Guy, Cody and Lucia as they battle it out on the streets of Metro City once more in what may be their actual final fight.
Noah’s Cradle – There are no longer any people who themselves have memory of inhabiting that planet. However, its name has been passed down amongst the thousands sent into space on a ship for the purpose of avoiding the extinction of the human race. Liking this to the one from the legend of the Great Flood that destroyed Earth, people began referring to this ship as “Noah’s Cradle.”
River City: Tokyo Rumble – Follow the story of a hot-blooded high school student named Kunio and his good friends. When a nefarious gang moves into Tokyo to try to take it over, it’s up to this self-proclaimed “fighter for justice” and his buddies to make sure the streets stay safe! Punch, kick, use weapons such as soccer balls, iron knuckles, chains, and even bicycles to knock some sense into those devious gang members. (Available September 27)
