Xbox Store Today: Candleman, Subject 13, Kill the Bad Guy, Wells

Maybe it’s just a coincidence, but today’s additions to the Xbox Games Store all seem to feature heavily stylized worlds and characters…

First up is Candleman, a platformer where players control a candle who can burn for only ten seconds. Now available to download for the Xbox One, players will use this unique ability to explore Candleman’s and attempt to reach the distant light.

Also available to download this week is Subject 13, a new adventure game from Paul Cuisset, the creator of Flashback: The Quest for Identity and Fade to Black. Co-developed by Microids, Xbox One owners will take on the guise of Franklin Fargo, a teacher held against his will in an underground lab and referred to be his captors only as “Subject 13.” The black-and-white world of Kill the Bad Guy is equally unique, as Xbox One players plot to rid the world of “Bad Guys” through inventive assassin attempts and puzzle mechanics.

Finally today, Xbox One owners will get to explore a steampunk world in the side-scrolling shooter Wells.

You can learn more about these games after the break thanks to complete descriptions from the Xbox Games Store.

Candleman
Candleman is a distinctive action adventure story entwined with low-light gameplay. Acting as a little candle who can burn for only ten seconds, venture through an unsettling darkness with challenging levels and a smooth difficulty curve. Struggle to overcome obstacles based on the mechanics of light and shadow, explore a wide range of enchanted environments, and unveil hidden treasure as you seek the distant light.

Subject 13
Subject 13 is a traditional adventure game developed by Paul Cuisset in partnership with Microids. It portrays a mysterious universe filled with secret hiding places and a whole range of mechanisms that players will have to discover, analyze and activate. You will take on the role of Franklin Fargo, a discreet Physics teacher. He leads a lonely and bitter life after the death of his fiancee, Sophie, killed during a hold-up in which he was the intended target. One morning, he wakes up in the heart of an abandoned underground scientific complex, with just one link to the outside world: a voice referring to him as “Subject 13.” His goal is to escape this place and discover why he was captured.

Kill the Bad Guy
Hiding behind the mask of the average man on the street, and furtively blending into the background, many war criminals, ex-Mafia members and other criminals have been literally getting away with murder, or worse. That is, until you turned up to ruin the party. As part of a secret and mysterious society whose members have sworn to rid the world of these Bad Guys, it’s your responsibility to make sure justice is served in the bloodiest possible way, using your unpredictability to your advantage. Track the Bad Guys, be brutal and smart in your planning, and eliminate them one by one. But bear this in mind: each criminal’s death has to look like an accident. In each level, you’ll have the chance to splatter and destroy the Bad Guy using various weapons and traps. It’s up to you to make sure he ends up in the wrong place at the right time. In this ingenious puzzle game in which physics plays an essential role, you’ll need to keep a cool head and your wits about you.

Wells
Wells is a action side-scrolling game with 3D graphics, its style is a direct reference to a classic subgenre of games that was popular in the 90s, the Run and Gun.
