The Games of April 2017

Here at Warp Zoned, we’re all pretty excited for the April game calendar! There’s a little bit of excitement for Yooka-Laylee, a little for Bulletstorm: Full Clip Edition, and even a little for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Read on to see what we’re hype for and why this month!

April is filled with a ton of retro homages and I don’t think my wallet will be able to resist. There’s the side-scrolling shooting of Vertex Pop’s Graceful Explosion Machine, along with the side-scrolling platforming of Tribute’s Flinthook and the 16-bit RPG stylings of Zeboyd’s Cosmic Star Heroine.

That’s not to mention Capcom’s PC/PS4/Xbox One remake of several NES classics for The Disney Afternoon Collection, and the twin-stick shooting of Dodge Roll’s Enter the Gungeon.

Then there’s Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on the Switch. I’ve already played Mario’s latest kart racer to death on the Wii U, but I think I’m going to rebuy it just for the chance to race as an Inkling Boy and/or Girl!

April is going to destroy me. I don’t have a Switch yet, so I won’t be able to enjoy Graceful Explosion Machine. I am super excited to play Flinthook. And when I was at the Gearbox panel at PAX East, I got a free code for Bulletstorm: Full Clip Edition, which I am looking forward to trying out. But my life is about to get ruined by Persona 5. I don’t even know if I should have mentioned any other games, though I will, of course, be playing them. I just don’t know how I’m going to live after tomorrow!

So I actually funded Yooka-Laylee, but on the Wii U, and have now switched that to, funnily enough, the Nintendo Switch! But I’m kinda wishing I was getting it on PS4, because it looks like barrels of fun. Bulletstorm was one of the most underrated games of the last generation, and genuinely felt like you were in a movie version of an FPS at times, so I think I’ll probably also pick the Full Clip Edition on the PS4.

And I am still torn about whether to pick up Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on the Switch, especially after buying the WIi U version and both DLC packs, but the ability to play it on the go might be too tempting to resist!

I did not fund Yooka-Laylee, but that’s not going to stop me from picking it up! I really wanted to get it for the Switch, but since I’m old-fashioned, I have to get that physical copy… so PS4 it is. I also think I’ll pick up Telltale’s Guardians of the Galaxy, because I am a huge fan of both the developer and Marvel’s villain Thanos. Putting them both together kind of makes this a no-brainer for me.

I’m also torn on Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. I, too, own the Wii U version and both DLC packs, so I’m not sure if I want to double dip. But who am I kdding? It’ll likely end up being an impulse buy.
