Nintendo Download: Mighty Gunvolt Burst, GoNNER, more

It’s time for another look at the weekly Nintendo Download, and two new side-scrollers have been added to the Nintendo eShop…

First up is Mighty Gunvolt Burst, a retro-themed 3DS side-scroller from Inti Creates that features characters from Azure Striker Gunvolt (Gunvolt) and Mighty No. 9 (Beck). Unlike the mashup franchise’s “bite-sized” first installment, Mighty Gunvolt Burst is a “full-sized” game with “a much deeper and more expansive world.”

Also available to download today is GoNNER, a roguelike side-scroller for the Switch from Raw Fury and Art in Heart. According to the developers, players will follow the “largely misunderstood and altruistic Ikk” in his quest to cheer up a giant land-bound whale named Sally.

You can learn more about both of these games (and the rest of this week’s new releases) after the break.

Switch Games

GoNNER – GoNNER from Raw Fury and Art in Heart is a challenging, procedurally generated 2D platformer with roguelike elements. The game follows the largely misunderstood and altruistic Ikk on a journey to cheer up his only friend in this world – a giant land-bound whale named Sally – by searching for just the right trinket in the deep and dark places nearby.

Magical Drop II – Magical Drop II is a puzzle game released by Data East in 1996. Justice makes her appearance and even more exhilarating battles are ready to unfold. Control lively, highly expressive characters and enjoy creating amazing combo chains with easy-to-use controls! Challenge a friend and see whose puzzle techniques reign supreme.

3DS Games

Mighty Gunvolt Burst – Rather than make a direct sequel to their bite-sized 2D action game Mighty Gunvolt from 2014, Inti Creates has made the next installment in the Mighty Gunvolt series a brand new full-sized game that features characters from multiple universes with Gunvolt (Azure Striker Gunvolt) and Beck (Mighty No. 9) taking the stage once again, but in a much deeper and more expansive world that differs greatly from the original in many ways.

6180: The Moon – 6180: The Moon is a platformer game with a unique mechanic. It offers a fresh, unseen game play style by connecting both of upper and bottom screens. This allows in a mechanic with delightfully long jumps and no fear of slipping to death.

Wii U Games

Bonk 3: Bonk’s Big Adventure – It’s up to Bonk once again to thwart the plans of the evil King Drool in this TurboGrafx-16 platformer. There are seven rounds scattered throughout the Dinosaur Kingdom, each one filled with fun contraptions and comical enemies. Depending on the situation, you can change your size to bonk your way through a dead end or to get a hard-to-reach item. And if that’s not enough, you can grab a friend and put your heads together to defeat King Drool in the two-player mode.

Devil’s Crush – In this TurboGrafx-16 pinball game, shoot the ball onto the board with the Devil Shooter, and then use flippers to rack up a high score. Complete certain conditions to play up to six different bonus stages. The game’s ominous theme is enhanced by its enemies: wandering skeleton knights, sorcerers and even a giant face that changes from a goddess to a sinister serpent.

Preston Sterling and the Legend of Excalibur – Preston Sterling and the Legend of Excalibur is an adventure that will transport you into the world of English myths and legends. Tackle tricky puzzles and enjoy an exciting story, lovable characters and stunning scenes and locations!
