The Games of June 2017

The video game industry is slowing down for the Summer, but there’s still a few new games to talk about over the next four weeks. Whether you love fighting games (Arms and Tekken 7) or RPGs (The Elder Scrolls Online: Morrowind) or racers (Dirt 4) or remakes (Wipeout: The Omega Collection and Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy), there’s something for everyone.

Find out what else the Warp Zoned staff is looking forward to this month after the break.

There’s definitely a handful of interesting new titles coming to stores in June (to Arms or not to Arms, that is the question), but the only game that I absolutely must have this month is Nex Machina. If you’re unfamiliar with Nex Machina, it’s a brand new twin-stick shooter from the combined talents of Eugene Jarvis (the creator of Smash TV) and Housemarque.

Now that I have a Nintendo Switch, I’m considering getting Arms, but I’m still trying to work out all my peripherals first! I’m looking forward to Valkyria Revolution, though I haven’t decided if I want to get it on PS4 or Vita yet. But the real star of this month has to be Crash Banidicoot N. Sane Trilogy! I am so super excited to replay those games again. It’s going to be a blast!

May proved to be full of games that I had overlooked (like Rime and Disgaea 5 Complete), but there is only one standout title for me in June… the springy Switch fighter Arms. In the same month that we have Tekken 7, Nintendo reminds us that it makes fun, innovative games. Word of mouth has been mixed, but I’ve had it on pre-order since March, with hopes that it is essentially Wii Sports: Boxing on crack.

One returning franchise I am super-excited about is Micro Machines World Series, which I remember fondly from the days of the Super NES. The new version looks like a gorgeous reworking of the classic series, and the inventiveness of the micro world is surreal, like the breakfast table level where you are sent skidding through milk and get stuck in jam.

June looks pretty quiet for me. If anything, Mighty Gunvolt Burst might be on my radar. Although, a year ago around this time I also bought Mighty No. 9, and we all know how well that turned out. But we’ll see – it may be worth a look. Happy Summer everyone!
