The Games of September 2017

It’s September, so we are officially in the midst of the game industry’s annual Fall gaming rush. Dozens of major titles will be released in stores between today and December 31, but for now, let’s focus on the offerings from the next four weeks.

A complete look at the games scheduled to launch in September (along with a few staff picks) can be found after the break.

Let’s face it, September belongs to Destiny 2. I only picked up the original once the Legendary Pack came out with all the add-ons that should have been in the first game to give it something that resembled a story. With Destiny 2, it feels like Bungie is offering what is commonly termed a “soft reboot.” And yet, despite enjoying the first one, I did not find the grind particularly worthwhile, and never returned once I had taken on the Taken King. Give me Borderlands any day. I’ll happily hunt for ridiculously-named, and often, offensive, loot, as long as there is a story to follow. If Destiny 2 can promise me that, then I’ll happily buy it. If it’s more of the same, I’ll wait and see.

I am also curious about Dishonored: Death of the Outsider. Despite my initial enthusiasm to return to the world of Dunwall, I really found the second game to be a bit of a slog compared to the inventiveness of the original. If this redeems the brand, then I’ll certainly get my steampunk on again.

I concur. September is all about Destiny 2. I’ve got my Limited Edition on preorder, and I can’t wait to pick it up! My Titan is going to lay waste to all of those damn, dirty, space turtles. I am also going to revisit SR-388 when I pick up Metroid: Samus Returns (along with the Amiibo of course). I’ll always be a Metroid fan, and by supporting my local bounty hunter, this will hopefully increase the chances of additional games after Metroid Prime 4.

Also on my radar is Marvel Vs Capcom: Infinite. It’s got the 2v2 fighting that I enjoy, and it’s got Thanos – what more could you ask for? Finally, although I unfortunately don’t own an Xbox One, and my PC is too basic, I would love to play Cuphead… it looks devilishly fun!
