Deathstate is coming to the Switch… Fantasy FPS Amid Evil will make its debut at this year’s PAX Aus

Tis the season for horror! But don’t expect the standard scares from Deathstate and Amid Evil… the developers of both games are promising that players will be able to experience a unique brand of “retro horror” when they’re released later this year.

You can learn more about both games after the break.

Bread Machine Games has announced that their spooky “single-stick” shooter, Deathstate, is in the works for the Nintendo Switch. Deathstate’s Switch debut doesn’t yet have a confirmed release date, but the developer said (in a followup tweet) fans won’t have to wait too long:

From the Sick and Twisted Minds Behind DUSK and Rise of the Triad Comes An All-New Medieval Fantasy Retro FPS: AMID EVIL [Steam]

Earlier today, publisher New Blood and developer Indefatigable unveiled Amid Evil, a brand new first person shooter for the PC that was partly inspired by games like Heretic and Hexen. The “Fantasy FPS” isn’t as popular as it used to be, but Indefatigable wants to stick close to the genre’s 90s roots:

  • SEVEN distinct episodes each featuring a completely different setting and enemies.
  • LUDICROUS magical weaponry that can be overcharged with the souls of the dead.
  • BRUTAL and adaptive enemy AI that will hunt you down on land, sea, and air.
  • SPRAWLING non-linear levels filled with secrets and ancient lore.
  • MULTITUDES of in-game options and cheat codes for a truly golden PC age experience.
  • EPIC original and dynamic soundtrack composed by Andrew Hulshult.
  • BUILT in Unreal Engine 4 for cutting edge visuals (even if they are a bit retro).
  • OPTIMIZED to run on a toaster (a pretty nice toaster).

If you’re in Melbourne for this weekend’s PAX Australia, you’ll be able to test out Amid Evil in the PAX Rising booth. Everyone else will have to wait for the game’s official release date, which New Blood is saying will be “SOON.”
