The Games of January 2015

gamesofjanuary-header

Happy New Year, readers! As we all settle in to getting used to writing new numbers at the end of every date, we’ve also been thinking about what games we want to play this month. It looks like, for the most part, we’ll either be digging into our backlog or regretting all those games we got for Christmas, which have now extended that backlog. Either way, we’re going to be busy! Read on to see what our plans are for the first month of 2015.

With so many 2014-to-2015 delays, you’d think that some of them would have landed in January. But I guess that’s not to be and we’re stuck with an extremely empty new release calendar. So perhaps I’ll use this gap in between bigger releases to finally give the Saints Row franchise a shot with Saints Row: Gat Out of Hell. Killing Satan with a gun strapped to a recliner is so ridiculous that the game it’s connected to just has to be awesome… right?

There’s only one game I’m really excited about that’s releasing in January, and that’s Dying Light. I’ve been watching videos here and there and it looks like it has the potential to be a really fun ride. Other than that, I’m going to focus on all the games I got over the holidays, which could keep me busy for at least a month!

January is a bit lean, but so is my wallet. Technically, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker was released last month, but I pre-ordered it when it was due out this month, and it’s still not bloody arrived! So this is (technically) my game for January 2015. Citizens of Earth is also due out, and I’ve had my eye on it since it appeared on Kickstarter last year, so I reckon I’ll pick it up on release.

Wow, there’s pretty much nothing out there that interests me in January. The only one that raises an eyebrow is the Resident Evil re-remake. But I still have my original copy for the GameCube, so I’m not even sure if I want it. Oh well, this’ll give me a good month to chip away at the ol’ backlog.
