Warpback: What We Played in June 2015

warpback-june-header

We were all over the map this month here at Warp Zoned! While most of us were on our Wii Us getting our Nintendo on, some of us were also digging into some other games from our backlogs, or revisiting old favorites. Some of us have even discovered we are… gasp… mobile gamers! Read on to find out everything we played in the month of June.

You’re a Squid! You’re a Kid! Splatoon! I am completely enamored with Nintendo’s first foray into the team shooter genre. I’ve been playing the game practically non-stop, both because the three-minute rounds are ridiculously addictive and to prepare my Inkling for this weekend’s Splatfest. It takes a lot for a shooter to get its hooks into me, but Splatoon has done it. Then again, tentacles are a lot better at grabbing things than hooks.

When I wasn’t glued to my Wii U GamePad, I was putting plenty of time into the newly released mobile version of Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions. I am suitably impressed with the way Lucid Games was able to shrink down their twin-stick shooter masterpiece for smartphones, though the game really does require a proper controller to get the most out of it.

I played lots of great games this month! I wrapped up Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney: Trials and Tribulations, and then switched back over to Layton. I’m in the middle of Professor Layton and the Last Specter now! And since I’m back on my 3DS, and we had a convention last weekend, I’ve been getting some more mileage out of Puzzle Swap and Find Mii 2.

Anthony Amato and I are still having a great time in the Diablo III: Reaper of Souls edition on the PS4. We made it through the game to level 70 and now we’re playing the game on Hardcore! And last month for our game club, we played Titan Souls, which I’m in LOVE with. It’s kicking my butt, but I am really enjoying it!

Other than that, I’ve actually been pretty sucked into games on my phone lately. Anthony got me super addicted to Threes!, which I had never played before. And I reinstalled Words With Friends, and, of course, I’m always playing Triple Town. I never thought I’d see the day but I’m actually gaming a lot on my phone!

My Wii U has been getting more love from me than the company that manufactured it, as I don’t think there has been a single day when I haven’t hopped online for a quick game of Splatoon only to keep playing until my GamePad’s battery light is blinking.

I’ve also been playing Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze off-screen when the TV isn’t free. The GamePad, for all its size, is a lifesaver when it comes to sharing a TV with your other half. I really hope the NX features some sort of off-screen display.

My Wii U has also gotten quite a bit of attention, but for different reasons. I’ve been knee-deep in Super Smash Bros. For Wii U, especially with the new Ryu and Roy DLC. I’ve kind of shifted my attention from the single-player mode to training my Toon Link Amiibo, as plans are currently under way in my area for an Amiibo Smash tournament. I’ve also been playing more of Minecraft: PlayStation 4 Edition, and was lucky enough to stumble upon a mineshaft with no less than four monster spawners. So I boxed those spawners in and turned them into experience farms. I honestly don’t think I’ll ever tire of that game.

I also started playing Lego Jurassic World (review incoming!) and am enjoying the trip down memory lane that it provides. I’ll have more on that soon, so stay tuned!
