The Games of August 2016

gamesofaugust-header

While there are lots of games we’re eager to play in August, there’s one game we can agree on, and that’s No Man’s Sky! The hype behind this game is strong and has been long-coming, and we here at Warp Zoned are super interested to see if it delivers. Other than that, we have a few games here and there we’re excited about. Read on to find out what we’ll be playing for the month of August!

The tidalwave of new games coming this Fall is almost here, but first we have to power through the month of August, which is actually home to quite a few major titles this year.

I’m really looking forward to three games this month, and the list starts off with the first episode from Batman: The Telltale Series. The chance to play as Batman and Bruce Wayne has me very excited, and Telltale’s ability to tell a mature story could be just what players want from their next game starring the Caped Crusader. But the relatively earthbound adventures of Batman will quickly give way to a game that everyone is looking forward to this month… No Man’s Sky from Hello Games. I’m not sure there’s any way for the procedurally-generated space exploration title to live up to all the hype surrounding it, but I can’t wait to try it and find out for myself.

Finally this month, I’m looking forward to the launch of one of my favorite games from PAX East, Metrico+. Not only does the “infographic” platformer feature a beautifully minimalistic look, but I’m also a sucker for any game where you have to lower one platform to raise another one up.

The game I’m most excited about this month is, without a doubt, God Eater 2: Rage Burst. I was a huge fan of the first game on the PSP, and I’m pumped to see where the story goes in the second game. The only other games I’m excited about are, of course, No Man’s Sky, which everyone wants a piece of!

And I’m very intrigued by Bound, which looks graceful and mysterious. Other than that, August is just going to be going to events and trying to get to the games I still have in shrink wrap!

I have had No Man’s Sky on pre-order now for what seems like eons, so to finally be able to play this space exploration game is very exciting. Despite all the hype and legal issues the developers at Hello Games have faced, the game’s premise still remains something akin to Star Trek: explore strange new worlds and seek out new life and new civilisations. If only they had Patrick Stewart doing an opening monologue!

I thoroughly expect to pick up Deus Ex: Mankind Divided at some stage, but given how massive No Man’s Sky is, I expect that to eat up my gaming hours for months to come!

Like the rest of the team, I have a keen eye on No Man’s Sky. Although I am looking forward to it, I am a bit concerned that it’s not going to live up to the massive hype generated around it. I love the idea of a game’s violence taking a back seat to its exploration, and the ability to name new species is very enticing. I just hope it’s as good as it’s being made out to be.

Other than that, I will likely pick up Resident Evil 4 fort he PS4. Leon’s adventure is my favorite in the bunch, and I can’t wait to give it another go.
