Journey Executive Producer: “Don’t expect a sequel”

journey-1

Despite critical acclaim (including five BAFTA Award wins last night), do not expect to see a sequel to Journey. Robin Hunicke, the game’s Executive Producer, told IGN that due to thatgamecompany’s recent mass exodus (including Hunicke herself), no one is ready for a sequel.

“I think we all put a lot of heart and soul into Journey, so we’d like to leave it where it is,” she explained. “It’s pretty much perfect the way it is, we don’t want to mess with that so I would imagine there would be no Journey 2.”

Thatgamecompany has recently stated the studio is no longer exclusive to Sony and many employees have moved on to new companies and begun development on a variety of unannounced projects.

Curt Schilling asks judge to throw out 38 Studios lawsuit

38studios-logoCurt Schilling, the former Boston Red Sox pitcher and founder of the now-defunct 38 Studios (and a future Hall of Famer, in my humble opinion), asked a judge yesterday to throw out a $75 million lawsuit against him. The lawsuit, filed by the Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation, alleges that 38 Studio executives misled the agency in securing the taxpayer-gurranted loan. Schillings calls these allegations “implausible.”

On Friday, lawyers for Schilling filed documents asking Superior Judge Michael Silverstein to throw out the suit, which alleges fraud, racketeering and conspiracy. According to Schilling’s claim, he and the other executives “have repeatedly disclosed the company’s financial needs to [Rhode Island] Economic Development Corporation officials.”

“Given the EDC’s admissions concerning 38 Studios’ disclosures to the EDC’s executives, attorneys and financial advisor, it is impossible for the EDC simultaneously to claim that the 38 Studios defendants supposedly defrauded the EDC,” the filing says.

This news comes on the heels of the sale of Schilling’s famous “bloody sock,” which was auctioned off for $92,612.50 by Heritage Auctions last month to raise money to pay off the pitcher’s debts. 38 Studios was the creator of Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning and was developing Project Copernicus, an unreleased MMO set in the Amalur unviverse, at the time of its bankruptcy.

Insomniac trademarks new game “Sunset Overdrive”

insomniacgames-header

Insomniac Games, the creators of Ratchet & Clank, Resistance, and the upcoming game Fuse, have trademarked a title for a new game known as “Sunset Overdrive.” The trademark filing identified Sunset Overdrive as “computer game software” and that it will provide “Entertainment services, namely, providing an on-line computer game.”

It is unclear whether this is a new console game, a PC game, or hell even a casual Facebook game. IGN reached out to the company for comment, where an Insomniac spokesperson stated, “We’re an idea factory and we submit for [new trademarks] pretty regularly. There’s nothing to announce, but thanks for checking in.”

Insomniac’s next game, the multiplatform Fuse, is set to be released sometime this Spring.

Wii Mini coming to the UK in March

wiimini-2The Wii Mini, the Canada-exclusive Wii revision that was released this holiday season, is no longer exclusive. Today, Nintendo UK announced that the Wii Mini will be taking a trip over the pond when the console is released in the UK on March 22nd. Though no price was announced, it is safe to assume it will be around the $99 (£63.50) price mark of its Canadian counterpart.

The Wii Mini was released in Canada on December 7, 2012. It lacked GameCube compatibility, an SD card slot, Wi-Fi support, and most importantly only supports composite video output. In the press release, Nintendo did not state plans to release the Wii Mini in the United States, Asia, or the rest of Europe.

Just Add Water confirmed as PS4 developer

justaddwater-logoYou can add another developer to Sony’s lineup of Playstation 4 developers. In a blog post on their official site, Just Add Water confirmed they are developing for the next-generation system. The company is best known for the remastering of Oddworlds: Stranger’s Wrath and the Playstation Network hit, Gravity Crash.

Just Add Water has been silent for a while now, but this has been due to “building a team we’re proud of, finding the best talent to give Oddworld the care and attention it deserves.” So Oddworld is coming to PS4? Not so fast, Just Add Water was quick to say they cannot comment on the game they are developing, but “it’ll be worth the wait.”
