New Retail Releases: Forza Horizon 3, FIFA 17, Yo-Kai Watch 2, More

newreleases092716

Soccer players (excuse me, footballers), racecar drivers, invisible Japanese spirits, a sneaker-wearing hedgehog, bloodthirsty aliens, and even bloodthirstier zombies highlight this week’s new release roundup…

FIFA 17 will be available in stores this week for the PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. In addition to a series of graphical upgrades and gameplay tweaks, the latest soccer simulation from EA Sports adds “The Journey,” a story-based single-player mode where players take control a teenager trying to make it in the Premier League.

Also new this week is Microsoft’s latest racing sim, Forza Horizon 3. The PC and Xbox One game recreates Australia as a playground for open-world racing, which players can dive into with more than 350 cars.

Away from the fast cars and furious footballers, Nintendo and Level-5 will release Yo-Kai Watch 2: Bony Spirits and Yo-Kai Watch 2: Fleshy Souls. The creature-collecting games will include hundreds of new Yo-Kai, invisible spirits believed to exist out in the world. But with the game’s Yo-Kai Watch, players can see these supernatural creatures, and capture them.

Keeping with the otherworldly theme, 2K Games will bring XCOM 2 to the PS4 and Xbox One this week. After debuting on the PC earlier this year, the publisher is expanding the strategy game’s reach to new-generation consoles… and not a moment too soon. The alien invaders have enslaved humanity in the sequel and it’s up to players to guide the XCOM to victory against a foe that’s taken control of the Earth.

While the enemies of Dead Rising 2 are a bit dumber than a race of hyper-advanced aliens, they’re no less dangerous. Available this week for the PS4 and Xbox One, Dead Rising 2 was originally released for the PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2010, but the re-release will still put a ravenous horde of undead between motocross racer Chuck Greene and the anti-zombie cure he needs for his daughter.

Hopefully, Chuck can avoid those zombies using Sonic-like speed, but a Blue Blur will be busy with Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice, which will be released this week for the 3DS.

Finally this week, Microsoft is cramming a free copy of Minecraft in with their newest Xbox One S 500GB Console Bundle. So if you’re interested in picking up an Xbox One S, and you love Minecraft, it’s a fairly good deal.

Xbox Store Today: ReCore, Pac-Man Championship Edition 2, The Witness, more

recore-header

It’s a big day for the Xbox Games Store, as Xbox One owners will be able to choose from more than a dozen new releases this week, as well as the launch of Microsoft’s Xbox Play Anywhere program.

ReCore is a third-person action game for the Xbox One from Armature Studio and Mega Man creator Keiji Inafune. Players will take control of Joule Adams, one of the last remaining humans on Far Eden. As she struggles for survival, she’ll have to fight back against evil robotic foes and create her own army of friendly automatons. As the first Xbox Play Anywhere title, players who purchase it for the Xbox One will also receive access to the game on Windows 10 as well.

Most of this week’s new releases deal with “Survival” in some way or another, but The Witness is in a class of its own. Players wake up on “a strange island full of puzzles” and must work out the solutions if they want to continue in the Xbox One title. A simpler survival story can be found in Pac-Man Championship Edition 2, an Xbox One game that pits the famous Pac-Man against the Ghosts once again.

Frank West’s fight isn’t with any kind of spook or specter, but the living dead. And he’ll need all the help he can get as Capcom will re-release Dead Rising, Dead Rising 2, and Dead Rising 2: Off the Record on the Xbox One this week. The remastered games will feature improved graphics, and you can even grab all three of them at a discount with the Dead Rising Triple Pack.

2K Games and Irrational Games will also re-release a loosely connected trilogy for the Xbox One this week with the launch of BioShock: The Collection. Containing BioShock, BioShock 2, and BioShock Infinite, Xbox One owners will be able to play through visually-enhanced version of the games and listen to developer’s commentary from Ken Levine and others.

And are you ready for some sports? New hockey (NHL 17), racing (NASCAR Heat: Evolution), and soccer games (Pro Evolution Soccer 2017) are available to download for the Xbox One today. Pro Evolution Soccer 2017 was also released for the Xbox 360.

Finally this week, Telltale Games will launch new entries in two of their episodic series. Xbox 360 owners will be able to play as both Batman and Bruce Wayne in Batman: The Telltale Series – Episode 1: Realm of Shadows, while Xbox One and Xbox 360 owners will be able to experience the finale of Minecraft: Story Mode in Episode 8: A Journey’s End?

More information about all of these games (and a few other new releases) can be found after the break. (more…)

NBA 2K17, Pac-Man CE 2, BioShock Collection, and a lot more added to PS Store

It’s a big day for the PlayStation Store and this week’s update starts off with enough sports games to fill a gym bag…

  • NBA 2K17 is the latest basketball sim from 2K Games. It’ll be available for the PS4 and PS3 on Friday, September 16.
  • NHL 17 is the latest hockey sim from EA Sports, and it’s now available for the PS4.
  • Pro Evolution Soccer 2017 is the latest soccer sim from Konami, and it’s now available for the PS4 and PS3.
  • NASCAR Heat: Evolution is also now available and its the first NASCAR racing sim to be released for the PS4.

Competitive eaters will also get their chance to shine this week as Bandai Namco has launched Pac-Man Championship Edition 2 for the PS4. The last Championship Edition game was released in 2010, and Pac-Man has learned plenty of new tricks in the intervening years including how to “bump” Ghosts. He’ll need all the help he can get, because Pac-Man will also battle bosses for the first time in Championship Edition 2.

One of gaming’s first heroes won’t be the only blast from the past to greet PS4 owners this week. BioShock: The Collection is a remastered compilation of Irrational’s beloved trilogy that’ll also include commentary from the developers. And Frank West will return in the Dead Rising Triple Pack, which will include Dead Rising, Dead Rising 2, and Dead Rising 2: Off the Record. All three games will also be available as individual downloads.

Nostalgia-driven gamers might also be interested Rive, the final game from developer Two Tribes. A side-scrolling shooter with a dash of platforming for the PS4, Two Tribes likes to think of Rive as their “metal-wrecking, robot-hacking” swan song.

Finally this week, Telltale Games will add new episodes to two of their series. Minecraft: Story Mode – Episode 8: A Journey’s End? is available to download for the PS4 and PS3, while Batman: The Telltale Series – Episode 1: Realm of Shadows comes to the PS3 for the first time.

More information on all of these games (and a lot of other new releases) can be found after the break. And don’t forget, the PlayStation Blog has a complete rundown of this week’s new add-ons and discounts. (more…)

Dead Rising remasters will be available for PC, PS4, Xbox One on September 13

Capcom has announced that the first three Dead Rising games will make their way to the PC, PS4, and Xbox One on September 13.

The games (Dead Rising, Dead Rising 2, and Dead Rising 2: Off the Record) will be available to download for $19.99 apiece, or as part of a three-game Triple Pack bundle for $59.49 (those who opt to pre-order can get it for $49.99). The original Dead Rising will also be released for the PS4 and Xbox One as a Blu-ray retail release on September 13. It’ll be followed by a PS4 and Xbox One retail release for Dead Rising 2 on September 27.

All three Dead Rising games will get a graphical overhaul with 1080p visuals running at 60FPS. All previously-released downloadable costumes will also be available. And in case you’re unfamiliar with Frank West and his patented brand of anti-zombie mayhem, Capcom has you covered:

Dead Rising
Re-live the zombie outbreak that started it all and step into the shoes of freelance photojournalist Frank West. On the hunt for the scoop of a lifetime, a tip leads Frank to the small suburban town of Willamette that’s been overrun by zombies. It’s a true struggle to survive the endless stream of enemies, but with full reign of an entire shopping mall, Frank can use any items he can find to fight off the flesh hungry mob and search for the truth behind the nightmarish epidemic. Don’t forget to capture the insanity on film and show off those photo journalist skills along the way!

Dead Rising 2
The sequel to the original Dead Rising introduces Chuck Greene, a professional motorcycle racer. Surrounded by a huge horde of zombies in the casino town of Fortune City, Chuck finds himself in a race against time to obtain Zombrex, a life-saving drug that will keep his daughter Katey alive. Dead Rising 2 also takes the series one step further with the introduction of combo weapons like the “PaddleSaw”, two player co-op and thrilling four player gladiator battles.

Dead Rising 2: Off the Record
Photo journalist and original hero Frank West takes center stage to find his biggest scoop yet, returning in a reimagining of the Fortune City casino town from Dead Rising 2. The added Sandbox Mode allows players to explore the city and participate in deathly challenges, while Frank’s photo skills and upgraded camera features capture all of the violent and hilarious action up close.

A new “Dead Rising: 10th Anniversary” trailer has also been embedded above and it’s a bloody good time.

Capcom confirms plan to remaster Dead Rising, Dead Rising 2, Dead Rising: Off the Record for PC, PS4, Xbox One

extremeshopping

Speaking to VideoGamer.com, a Capcom representative has confirmed that the publisher will remaster Dead Rising, Dead Rising 2, and Dead Rising 2: Off the Record for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One:

In a statement provided to VideoGamer.com, the publisher said: “Capcom will be bringing Dead Rising to Xbox One, PS4, and PC. In addition, Dead Rising 2 and Dead Rising 2: Off the Record will make their way onto Xbox One and PS4. We will have more news to share soon.”

Unfortunately, confirmation that they plan to remaster the first three games in the Dead Rising series was all Capcom was willing to share at this time. Exactly when the games will be released, who’s developing them, and how they’ll be remastered for the PS4 and Xbox One is still very much a mystery.

Maybe an experienced investigative journalist can crack this case. I wonder where we could find one…
