All Articles: Disgaea 5: Alliance of Vengeance
After recording a huge retail victory in April, Nintendo and its third-party partners are storming back this week with another batch of fresh Switch software.
Leading things off, Capcom will release Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers for the Switch on Friday, May 26. The publisher is hoping that this re-release will introduce the arcade classic to an entirely new generation, but it also includes a brand new first-person minigame, new color variations for all characters, and two never-before-seen fights (Evil Ryu and Violent Ken). Another re-release will make its way to the Switch this week courtesy of NIS America. The import house will launch Disgaea 5 Complete on Nintendo’s console, which will include the original strategy RPG and all of its downloadable content.
The Switch will also receive some new games this week, as Tequila Works will bring their puzzle platformer Rime to the console. Featuring a unique and moody graphical style, Rime will also be available for the PS4 and Xbox One.
Finally this week, THQ Nordic will bring the original Darksiders to the Wii U as Darksiders: Warmastered Edition. This new version of the action/adventure game include enhanced visuals and redone graphical effects.
A complete list of this week’s new releases can be found after the break. (more…)
Disgaea 5 Complete will make its way to the Nintendo Switch on May 23, and NIS America wants to make sure the franchise’s fans are prepared with an Overview Trailer. Whether you’re new to the series, or just need a refresher, you can learn all about the game’s battle system and story with this brand new video. The publisher also revealed that a demo of Disgaea 5 Complete is now available to download through the Switch eShop.
Disgaea 5 Complete was first released in 2015 for the PS4 as Disgaea 5: Alliance of Vengeance, and the Switch re-release will include the original game and all of its post-launch downloadable content.
If you’ve already purchased a Nintendo Switch and have been on the lookout for new games, then Disgaea 5 Complete might be worth checking out. To further entice you, NIS America has also unveiled a new trailer showcasing the game’s Opening Movie.
Disgaea 5 focuses on the demon protagonist, Killia, and his companions, on their mission to thwart the malicious plans of the new overlord Void Dark, who is trying to enslave the Netherworld.
The strategy RPG was originally released back in October 2015 for the PlayStation 4, under the name Disgaea 5: Alliance of Vengeance. So if you bought the game once before, then you might want to sit this new version out. However, Disgaea 5 Complete sets itself apart from its previous iteration by including all of the previously-released DLC including four fan-favorite characters, three character classes, and eight additional scenarios.
Disgaea 5 Complete will be released on the Nintendo Switch in both physical and digital formats on May 23 in North America and May 26 in Europe.

Look out dood! Disgaea 5 is coming to the Nintendo Switch this Spring in a brand new Complete edition. Originally released for the PS4 back in 2015, Disgaea 5 is the latest game in the strategy RPG franchise from NIS America. This new version for the Switch will include the main game and all the previously-released downloadable content:
Disgaea 5 Complete tells a tale of revenge and rebellion. As a new and terrible Overlord named Void Dark seeks to enslave the countless Netherworlds, one young demon has stood to end his reign—Killia. In Disgaea 5 Complete, lead Killia and his tenacious army of rebels on their dark and dangerous path to vengeance. Filled with more over-the-top action and hilarious writing than ever before, Disgaea 5 Complete’s damage numbers are surely headed for the record books.
Disgaea 5 Complete is a strategy RPG that offers hundreds of hours of over-the-top, award-winning gameplay, and marks the first time the core game is available on-the-go. Nathan Drake is back this week as Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection will be available to download through the PlayStation Store on Friday, October 9. The Nathan Drake Collection will mark the PS4 of the first three Uncharted games (Drake’s Fortune, Among Thieves, and Drake’s Deception) and all players who purchase it will receive access to the beta for Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End.
Several other big releases are now available as part of this week’s PlayStation Store update and they’re available today:
- Get out your old plastic instruments… Rock Band 4 (PS4) is the first new entry in the franchise in five years. Harmonix didn’t stray too far from the familiar Rock Band 4 in the jump to the PS4, even ensuring backwards compatibility with your old instruments and a vast majority of downloadable songs.
- Transformers: Devastation (PS4, PS3) is a Transformers-themed brawler from Platinum Games that is… wait for it… based on the original Generation 1 era. Believe it or not, Devastation is the first G1 game to ever be released in North America.
- Disgaea 5: Alliance of Vengeance (PS4) is the latest strategy RPG from NIS America and the first entry in the series to be available for the PS4.
- Finally this week, Super Meat Boy (PS4 + PS Vita Cross-Buy) makes his PlayStation debut as the titular character’s ultra-hard platformer is now available for the PS4 and Vita.
More information on all of these games (and a few other new releases) can be found after the break. And, as always, a complete rundown of this week’s discounts and new game add-ons can be found at the PlayStation Blog. (more…)
It’s time to rock the world once more as Harmonix will release Rock Band 4 for the PS4 and Xbox One this week. In addition to the standard “Game Only” edition, the developer is also planning to replenish your stock of plastic instruments with a Rock Band 4: Guitar Bundle and a Band-In-A-Box Bundle.
Another big franchise that we’ll remember for centuries is coming back this week thanks to Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection on the PS4. Also available as part of a 500GB PS4 + Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection Bundle, the collection brings together Drake’s first three adventures and also includes an access code for the upcoming Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End beta.
And speaking of characters that have been popular for centuries, Activision and Platinum have teamed up to produce Transformers: Devastation, a cel-shaded action game based on the franchise’s “Generation 1” era. It looks gorgeous and it’ll be available for the PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
Finally, somebody told me that people love Nintendo’s adorable Chibi-Robo and NIS America’s Disgaea series of strategy RPGs. Fans are in luck this week, as new entries in both franchises are set to be released this week. Chibi-Robo!: Zip Lash is a side-scrolling platformer for the 3DS, while Disgaea 5: Alliance of Vengeance brings the series to the PS4 for the first time.

NIS America has announced that Disgaea 5: Alliance of Vengeance will be released exclusively for the PS4 on October 6. The strategy RPG series will be going in a darker direction for its PS4 debut, but the same type of quirky characters will remain. Writing on the PlayStation Blog, NIS’s Jordan Vincent had this to say:
The series is known for its unique cast of characters, which are always beautifully illustrated by Takehito Harada, and its over-the-top and hilarious stories and dialogue written by Sohei Niikawa. Disgaea 5 doesn’t disappoint in the jokes or art department, but it does take things in a new, darker direction. With a story centered on taking revenge on a powerful new Demon Emperor named Void Dark, this title follows our dark, self-assured hero, Killia, and his Overlord allies on their dark and dangerous path to vengeance.
Vincent also came bearing gifts, including a brand new story trailer, which has been embedded above. He also discussed some of the game’s many new features, including a main storyline that will last 45 hours and two new attack types. Alliance Attacks will “combine the strengths of specific members of the game’s main cast of characters when they have built up a strong enough bond with one another,” while the Revenge System will allow players to take revenge on enemies that beat up their buddies.
Finally, Vincent included a sneak peek at the Launch Day Edition, which will include the game, a reversible cover, a 32-page art book, and a soundtrack CD, all housed in a collectible box.
