Earth Defense Force: Iron Rain announced… Earth Defense Force 5 will be released in Japan on December 7
The Tokyo Game Show kicks off later this week, but publishers are already unveiling some of their upcoming titles ahead of Japan’s equivalent of the E3 Expo. D3 Publisher is one of the participants in this pre-show extravaganza, and they’ve unveiled fresh details about not one, but two, new games in the Earth Defense Force franchise.
You can learn more about both of them after the break. (more…)
It must be hard to host a lightweight morning show during an alien invasion. Can you even do feel-good puff pieces if giant monsters are trying to eat your interview subjects? D3 Publisher answered this question with the newest trailer for Earth Defense Force 5.
Fictional reporter Kusuriteru Himekawa is going to get her scoop, even if that means going in to the warzone itself. Thankfully, her intrepid interview skills have given fans a new look at some of Earth Defense Force 5’s ferocious fighting, as well as new vehicles including motorcycles, tanks, helicopters, mechs, and tiny walking tanks. Ms. Himekawa also uncovered a brand new alien bug… giant pillbugs known as Rollers. So keep a can of Raid handy, and be sure to check out the latest Earth Defense Force 5 trailer embedded above.
Earth Defense Force 5 will be released in Japan sometime this year, exclusively for the PS4. A North American launch seems likely, but no official announcement has been made by D3 Publisher.
The goofy sci-fi charms and decidedly old school gameplay of the Earth Defense Force series have thrilled fans since Earth Defense Force 2017 made its North American debut in 2006. The fifth entry in the series will be released sometime this year in Japan, and D3 Publisher released a brand new trailer for Earth Defense Force 5 over the weekend.
The new trailer reintroduces fans to the giant ants and spiders that have become the franchise’s trademark. But Earth Defense Force 5 will also include new enemies such as bipedal frogs and armored Grey Aliens. Thankfully, the welcome party is being thrown by the Earth Defense Force, and three soldier classes (Ranger infantry, flying Wing Divers, and heavily armored Fencers) are ready to battle back the Invaders.
Earth Defense Force 5 is in development exclusively for the PS4, and will be released sometime this year in Japan. Hopefully, a North American launch date will be announced soon.
D3 Publisher will release Earth Defense Force 5 in Japan later this year, but a special New Year’s message has given fans a look back at the franchise’s beginnings, along with a short glimpse of the upcoming sequel.
Posted to Twitter on December 31, the video includes a look at Earth Defense Force 5’s frog-like Colonists and a new model of walking UFO:

Earth Defense Force 5 is currently in development exclusively for the PS4, and an American launch date remains unannounced.
It looks like the Earth is going to need defending one one more time, as D3 Publisher announced that Earth Defense Force 5 will be released for the PS4 in Japan in 2017. Revealed yesterday during their Tokyo Game Show presentation, the fifth game in the increasingly over-the-top action franchise will add new enemy types including frog-like monsters and humanoid ground troops. They’ll join the invasion alongside the series’s standard assortment of alien ants, bees, and spiders.
XSEED Games publishes the Earth Defense Force franchise outside of Japan, so hopefully they’ll make first contact soon and let us know when Earth Defense Force 5 will be available in North America.
