But the publisher also used the Boston-based convention to announce a Collector’s Edition for the upcoming remaster.

Priced at $199.99, and available exclusively through the Square Enix Online Store, the Collector’s Edition will include several interesting bonus items:

Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age Collector’s Edition

Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age will be released exclusively for the PS4 on July 11

Square Enix kicked off a year-long “Final Fantasy 30th Anniversary” celebration in Tokyo last night, and one of the first things they did was announce a release date for Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age. Set to launch exclusively on the PS4, the remake will be available as a digital download and on store shelves on July 11.

Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age will be the first time that the game’s “International Edition” will be released outside of Japan. The updated RPG will include a high definition graphical makeover, along with 7.1 surround sound, a remastered soundtrack, a brand new Trial Mode where players can battle for survival against the game’s monsters, and full Trophy support. Western players in North America and Europe will also be able to play the game using the Zodiac Job System, which was exclusive to the “International Edition,” for the first time.

To mark this momentous occasion, Square Enix released a new piece of artwork from Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age by famed Character Designer Akihiko Yoshida. The publisher also opened the official website for the “Final Fantasy 30th Anniversary” celebration last night. Fans can view a calendar of upcoming events, as well as share their Final Fantasy memories with the developers.

It’s a good time to be a Final Fantasy fan. Square Enix is currently hard at work on a brand new chapter (Final Fantasy XV), as well as a full remake of the most popular entry in the series (Final Fantasy VII). Today, the publisher added a high definition remaster of Final Fantasy XII to their schedule.

Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age will be based on the previously Japan-only “International Zodiac Job System” version of the game. In addition to the never-before-seen character job progression system hinted at in the title, the remaster will also include the following features:

Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age Features

  • Latest-generation high-definition graphical capabilities, including characters and movie scenes fully remastered in high-definition.
  • True 7.1 surround sound, including high-definition voicing and newly recorded background music utilizing the current generation of sound production.
  • Option to switch between the original and the newly remastered soundtrack.
  • New Trial Mode where players can take on monsters and enemies in up to 100 successive battles.
  • Modern gameplay advancements including PlayStation 4 system Trophy support and Share functionalities, auto-save and shortened loading times.
  • An endless amount of gameplay and adventure including hunts, battles, and mini-games.

Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age will be exclusively released for the PS4 sometime next year, but first, Square Enix plans to put the remaster on display at this year’s E3 Expo, which will be held in Los Angeles next week.
