All Articles: Game of Thrones: A Telltale Series
The Xbox Games Store jumps to lightspeed this week as Star Wars: Battlefront is now available to download for the Xbox One. Like a good blaster at your side, EA and DICE have brought the franchise, and its signature slate of online multiplayer battles, back for a new generation of players.
But a very different order of knights took up residence on the Xbox Games Store earlier this week. Chainsawesome Games released Knight Squad, an overhead arena battler that bears more than a passing resemblance to Gauntlet and Bomberman. If that sounds like your kind of thing, I’ve got good news, Microsoft has inducted Knight Squad into the Games With Gold program and its a free download for the next four weeks.
Continuing on with our knightly theme, Telltale Games has launched the finale of their Game of Thrones adaptation for the Xbox One and Xbox 360. Episode 6: The Ice Dragon forces House Forrester into the events surrounding the War of the Five Kings and they’ll have to survive “a maelstrom of bloody warfare, revenge, intrigue, and horror” to make it out alive.
Finally this week, Deadpool is no knight in shining armor, but his Xbox 360 game from 2013 has been re-released on the Xbox One.
More information on all of these games (and a few other new releases) can be found after the break. (more…)
Duh… Duh… Duh, Duh-Duh… Duh, Duh-Duh… Duh… Duh…
Duh… Duh… Duh, Duh-Duh… Duh, Duh-Duh! Duh, Duh-Duh!
Search your feelings. You know it to be true. Star Wars: Battlefront is now available to download for the PS4 through the PlayStation Store. But EA and DICE’s multiplayer battler isn’t the only Star Wars game that did the trench run to retailers this week. Also available to download today is Super Star Wars, an enhanced remake of the Super NES side-scroller from 1992.
As one epic saga receives a new beginning this week, another comes to a close, as Telltale has released the final episode of their Game of Thrones adaptation. Available to download now for the PS4 and PS3, Episode 6: The Ice Dragon marks the end for House Forrester one way or another because in the game of thrones, “you either win, or you die.”
Finally this week, Deadpool makes his triumphant (and hyperactive) return to the PlayStation platform thanks to a PS4 re-release of his PS3 beat ’em up from 2013. If you’re unfamiliar with the “Merc With A Mouth,” I’ll let the character himself sell you on his game: “I’m a mercenary with an accelerated healing factor, I’ve been described as unstable, which is just plain coo-coo, I’m gonna battle for the safety of humans and mutants. Be prepared for just about anything. (Holla!)”
More information on all of these games (and a few other new releases) is available after the break. And a complete rundown of this week’s new game add-ons and discounts can be found at the PlayStation Blog. (more…)
I hope you’re all caught up with Telltale’s Game of Thrones adaptation, as the final episode, The Ice Dragon, is now available to download on the PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and mobile devices. But if you’re still behind (and you’re not afraid of spoilers), be sure to check out the “Recap Trailer” embedded above. It’ll helpfully provide an overview of the many choices players have had to make over the first five episodes, while also setting up the grand finale:
Your story is about to come to an epic conclusion. With House Whitehill tightening its grip on Ironrath at the behest of Ramsay Bolton, the remaining Forresters must give their all to save the family, whether through diplomacy, subterfuge, or violent force. In the frozen wilds beyond The Wall, Gared learns the secrets of the mysterious North Grove, and Mira discovers that political games in a King’s Landing controlled by Cersei Lannister often involve the highest stakes of all.
What is the fate of House Forrester? When you play the Game of Thrones, you win or you die. Your choices, your story: you decide.
Game of Thrones: The Complete Season is also available to purchase from retail outlets beginning today for the PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
“Do or do not. There is no try.”
After an absence from gaming for more than a decade, it’s time for the return of the Star Wars: Battlefront franchise on the PC, PS4, and Xbox One. Did DICE recapture the old magic that made the series a fan favorite? We won’t know for sure until Tuesday, but I do know that the Vader-emblazoned PS4 500GB + Star Wars: Battlefront Limited Edition Bundle is a beautiful piece of hardware. A regular PS4 500GB + Star Wars: Battlefront Bundle will also be released this week.
Also available this week is a pair of Nintendo exclusives on Friday. Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon for the 3DS is the latest dungeon-crawling roguelike starring those lovable Pokemon. Meanwhile, Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash serves up another Mario-filled tennis tournament on the Wii U in place of the delayed Star Fox Zero.
Finally this week, we’ve got plenty of familiar games in new places…
- Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate makes its PC debut as the Assassins and Templars take their eternal struggle to Victorian England.
- The Borderlands Triple Pack (PS3, Xbox 360) puts all three games (and all their downloadable content) into a single package for the first time.
- The Crew: Wild Run Edition (PS4, Xbox One) bundles together Ubisoft’s online racer with its Wild Run expansion.
- Deadpool breaks the fourth wall again in this PS4/Xbox One remake of his PS3/Xbox 360 game.
- Telltale compiles all six episodes of their Game of Thrones adaptation onto a single disc for the PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
A complete list of this week’s new release can be found after the break. (more…)
Telltale’s Game of Thrones adaptation will come to a bloody conclusion (I’m assuming) on November 17. That’s when the game’s final episode, The Ice Dragon, will be released for the PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and mobile devices.
“The epic conclusion to the season is the most ambitious and diversely presented episode we’ve ever produced,” said Kevin Bruner, CEO and Co-Founder of Telltale Games. “The fate of House Forrester has been in the hands of players all season long, and the finale will be tailored to provide a uniquely harrowing conclusion for each and every player based on the decisions they’ve made in the game thus far.”
If you missed out on Telltale’s adaptation of HBO’s adaptation of George R.R. Martin’s expansive series of novels, don’t worry, a retail disc collecting all six episodes will also be available on November 17 for the PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. The developer will even let you try before you buy as the first episode, Iron From Ice, is now free to download on the PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and mobile devices.
To get players excited for the final episode of their Game of Thrones adaptation, Telltale has produced a featurette starring the show’s cast chatting about their experiences with the game.
Microsoft has performed its weekly update on the Xbox Games Store, adding four new titles in the process…
- Just one more episode remains as Game of Thrones: A Nest of Vipers (Xbox One, Xbox 360) pushes Telltale’s episodic adaptation of the HBO series closer to its conclusion.
- The creators of the Pokemon franchise, Game Freak, have teamed up with Sega to unleashed a rompin’ and stompin’ side-scroller known as Tembo the Badass Elephant (Xbox One).
- Codemasters brings their Formula One simulation series to the Xbox One for the first time with F1 2015.
- Finally, the fight over who is the Deadliest Warrior spills onto the Xbox 360 one more time in Deadliest Warrior: Battlegrounds
More information on all four titles can be found after the break. (more…)
Sony kicked off their PSN Play promotion for 2015 this week with the release of Journey on the PS4. The lyrical adventure from thatgamecompany has enchanted gamers all over the world with its wordless story and its even downloadable for free if you already own the PS3 edition.
Also available this week is a whole slew of wacky and weird games that are sure to find their niche:
- Tembo the Badass Elephant is a colorful side-scroller for the PS4 from Game Freak (the creators of Pokemon) and Sega. If that’s not enough for you, need I remind you that this is a BADASS elephant?
- F1 2015 is the latest Formula One simulation from Codemasters and the first for the PS4.
- Game of Thrones: A Nest of Vipers, available for the PS3 and PS4, is the fifth episode in Telltale’s episodic adaptation of the wildly popular HBO series.
- Hatoful Boyfriend is a “pigeon dating simulator” that’s available as a Cross-Buy title for the PS4 and Vita.
- Onechanbara Z2: Chaos is the latest game in the “bikini girls versus zombies” franchise and the first to be released in the US in more than five years.
More information on all of these new releases (and a few others) can be found after the break. And don’t forget, a complete rundown of this week’s discounts and new game add-ons can be found at the PlayStation Blog. (more…)
Things aren’t looking good for the Forrester family in this trailer for the fifth episode of Telltale’s Game of Thrones adaptation. Hopefully, things will turn out better once Game of Thrones: A Nest of Vipers is released next week:
In this penultimate episode, the actions of every Forrester are vital to the survival of the house. Rodrik’s alliance with House Glenmore, and his defiance of the Whitehills, has drawn the ire of an even greater threat: Ramsay Snow. Far across the Narrow Sea in Essos, with Meereen now a free city, Asher is close to securing the army he desperately needs to return home, and save his family. In King’s Landing, Mira’s activities at Tommen’s coronation have not escaped the attention of Margaery Tyrell, and Cersei has realized that the handmaiden may prove useful in her political games. Finally, beyond the Wall, Gared’s unlikely allies are reluctant to help in the search for the North Grove… but this far into the frozen wilds, Crows and Free Folk have a common enemy; and Winter is coming.
As usual, Game of Thrones: A Nest of Vipers will be available through a number of digital storefronts. Here’s the release schedule, courtesy of Telltale:
- Tuesday, July 21: PC/Mac, PS3, PS4
- Wednesday, July 22: Xbox One, Xbox 360
- Thursday, July 23: iOS, Android
The final episode of the series, Game of Thrones: The Ice Dragon, will likely be released sometime this Fall.
