New Retail Releases: Red Faction: Guerrilla Re-Mars-tered Edition, Jurassic World: Evolution

A classic episode of The Simpsons once encouraged 4th of July revelers to celebrate the independence of our nation by blowing up a small part of it. That sentiment is very much on display in a pair of games that are coming to retail shelves this week.

First up, THQ Nordic will head back to Mars in Red Faction: Guerrilla – Re-Mars-tered Edition, a PS4 and Xbox One re-release of the explosive action game from 2009:

Set 50 years after the climactic events of the original Red Faction, Red Faction: Guerrilla allows players to take the role of an insurgent Fighter with the newly re-established Red Faction movement as they battle for liberation from the oppressive Earth Defense Force. Red Faction: Guerrilla still defines the limits of destruction-based gameplay with a huge open-world, fast-paced guerrilla-style combat, and true physics-based destruction.

Also available this week is the retail launch of Jurassic World: Evolution for the PS4 and Xbox One. Life may… uh… find a way, but rampaging dinos are always good for a few fireworks:

Place yourself at the heart of the Jurassic franchise and build your own Jurassic World. Take charge of operations on the legendary islands of the Muertes archipelago and bring the wonder, majesty and danger of dinosaurs to life. Build for Science, Entertainment, or Security interests in an uncertain world where life always finds a way. Control the big picture with deep management tools or go hands-on to confront challenges on the ground or in the air. Expand your islands and choose your own journey in an all-new narrative featuring iconic characters from across the franchise and decades of Jurassic lore at your fingertips.

That’s all for now, but we’ll be back later this week with a look at all the new additions to the PlayStation Store, Xbox Games Store, and Nintendo eShop.

Jurassic World: Evolution, Super Bomberman R, Lego The Incredibles, more coming to Xbox Store this week

It’s E3 Week, but if you want to take some time out from gawking at what comes next, you can take a look at what’s available now. And that includes the four new games that were added to the Xbox Games Store this week…

Frontier Developments’s Jurassic World: Evolution… uh… finds a way to the Xbox One this week. Players are tasked with building the best dinosaur-themed amusement park they can, but they’ve also got to make sure the guests don’t get eaten. Thankfully, Jeff Goldblum, Bryce Dallas Howard, and B.D. Wong are around to offer advice (though I’m not sure I’d trust Dr. Wu).

Also available this week is Lego The Incredibles, the latest “Lego-ization” of a popular film series from WB Games and TT Games. Two players will battle supervillains from The Incredibles and Incredibles 2 in “action-packed” story levels and an “epic” hub world.

And speaking of epic, Konami will bring Super Bomberman R to the Xbox One this week and players will be able to play as Bomber Master Chief in the game’s multiplayer mode.

Finally this week, Omega Strike is a new a MetroidVania-style game for the Xbox One where players will have to overcome deadly enemies and learn new abilities to survive.

You can learn more about all of these games after the break. (more…)

The Games of June 2018

We’re less than a week away from the unofficial opening of this year’s E3 Expo, and the new release calendar has begun to dry up in anticipation of gaming’s biggest showcase. But there will still be plenty to play in the month of June, including an off-kilter new puzzler from Nintendo (Sushi Striker: The Way of The Sushido), a side-scrolling sequel to one of the strangest games of the 90s (Shaq Fu: A Legend Reborn), a dinosaur-themed theme park creator (Jurassic World: Evolution), and Mario’s latest sporting adventure (Mario Tennis Aces).

You can find out exactly why the Warp Zoned staff is looking forward to these games, and view the release schedule for all of this month’s new games, after the break. (more…)

Jurassic World: Evolution will open in Summer 2018 for the PC, PS4, Xbox One

“Now eventually you do plan to have dinosaurs on your, on your dinosaur tour, right?”

Fans will get the chance to design their own dinosaur theme park in Jurassic World: Evolution, which will be released for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One in Summer 2018. Jurassic World: Evolution is in the works at Frontier Developments, a developer with extensive experience in the park building genre (including Planet Coaster, Zoo Tycoon, and ScreamRide):

Jurassic World: Evolution evolves players’ relationship with the Jurassic World film franchise, placing them in control of operations on the legendary island of Isla Nublar and the surrounding islands of the Muertes Archipelago. Players will build their own Jurassic World as they bioengineer new dinosaur breeds and construct attractions, containment and research facilities. Every choice leads to a different path and spectacular challenges arise when “life finds a way.”

“As long-time fans of the entire Jurassic series we’re thrilled to be putting players in charge of their own Jurassic World,” said Jonny Watts, Frontier’s Chief Creative Officer. “We’re excited to bring over fifteen years of management, simulation, and creature development expertise to a destination and franchise that remains an inspiration to us.”

Jurassic World: Evolution will launch alongside Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, which opens in theaters on June 22 and stars Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, and Jeff Goldblum.
