Life Is Strange 2: Episode 2 will be released this January

Square Enix and Dontnod Entertainment released Life Is Strange 2‘s first episode this past September. Players have been eagerly awaiting the second episode, but both entities have kept quiet about when fans can expect to dive back into the world of Life Is Strange 2.

Today, Dontnod reappeared with an update to their official website, and confirmed that Episode 2: Rules will be available to download for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One this January. The four-month gap between episodes is longer than the developer originally intended, but it looks like they chose to delay Episode 2 to “meet the quality of play and storytelling that our vision for a game like this demands”:

The Life is Strange series is a project close to all of our hearts and one for which we do not want to rush development and thereby fail to meet the benchmark of quality and emotional impact that you, our players, deserve. This is why we so far have not announced an official release date – we want to ensure that we will be in a position to release something that we are proud of and that you will enjoy and remember forever.

We understand that there are certain expectations that episodes will be released at a similar cadence as previous Life is Strange games have. The ambition of Life is Strange 2, however, means that the previous frameworks no longer apply if we are to meet the quality of play and storytelling that our vision for a game like this demands and that you deserve.

Dontnod also promised that more information about Life Is Strange 2 – Episode 2: Rules will be made available sometime in mid-December.

FIFA 19, Life Is Strange 2, Hollow Knight, more coming to Xbox Store this week

A big batch of new Xbox One games will be available to download through the Xbox Games Store this week…

EA Sports will kick off another soccer season this week with FIFA 19, their latest simulation of the sport that everybody else calls futbol. Also available to download this week is the first episode of Dontnod’s Life Is Strange 2, a new narrative adventure that takes the story beyond Acadia Bay.

For Xbox One owners looking to play something new today, a few publishers have responded with some big games. Team Cherry will release Hollow Knight for the Xbox One after its successful launch on the PC and Switch, and Sega has given strategy RPG fans something to look forward to with the next Valkyria game, Valkyria Chronicles 4. Crytek’s free-to-play online shooter, Warface, has also made its Xbox One debut.

On Friday, Frictional Games will bring the terrifying Amnesia Collection (a bundle containing The Dark Descent, A Machine For Pigs, and Justine) to the Xbox One for the first time.

And finally, Microsoft will release Forza Horizon 4: Ultimate Edition as an Xbox Play Anywhere title for the Xbox One and Windows 10 PCs. The Ultimate Edition will launch this Friday, four days ahead of the Standard Edition of the game, and it’ll feature a ton of bonus content including the Car Pass, VIP Membership, Best of Bond Car Pack, Formula Drift Car Pack, and access to two additional expansions when they’re released.

“The Beautiful Game” gets updated for a new year as EA Sports is back with their latest soccer simulation, FIFA 19. The game will be available to download for the PS4 this Friday in a Standard Edition, a Champions Edition, and an Ultimate Edition.

Also set to launch later this week for the PS4 is Dontnod’s Life Is Strange 2 – Episode 1: What Doesn’t Kill Us. Leaving Acadia Bay behind, the second Life Is Strange adventure will follow two brothers, Sean and Daniel Diaz, who are on the run from the police.

Elsewhere on the PlayStation Store this week, Team Cherry will launch Hollow Knight: Voidheart Edition for the PS4. Originally released for the PC in 2017 and the Switch earlier this Summer, the new Voidheart Edition includes the full game, as well as all previously-released downloadable content.

The first episode of Life Is Strange 2 will be released on September 27

Dontnod Entertainment quietly announced Life Is Strange 2 in May 2017… and then they proceeded to pour all their attention into Vampyr, which was released earlier this month. But with Vampyr now available on store shelves, Dontnod is ready to reveal (in a short teaser trailer) that Life Is Strange 2’s first episode will be released on September 27.

Even with a release date announcement, we still don’t know much of anything about Life Is Strange 2. Though that might change after Dontnod releases The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit next week. The “narrative experience demo” will be available as a free download for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One, and it’ll somehow link up with Life Is Strange 2.

As you might have guessed, Life Is Strange 2 is also currently in development for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One.

Dontnod Entertainment announces Life Is Strange 2

A trio of developers from Dontnod Entertainment got a little emotional today, as they revealed that Life Is Strange has sold more than three million copies since its release in 2015. You can see it for yourself in a “Special Message” from the developer, which was posted to YouTube this morning.

Even though Dontnod is currently hard at work on Vampyr, an action RPG set in the Victorian Era, the developer also wants to add more chapters to their coming-of-age adventure game. At the end of the “Special Message,” they confirmed that Life Is Strange 2 is currently in development.

Life Is Strange 2 won’t be making an appearance at this year’s E3 Expo, but Dontnod is well aware that their fans want to learn more about the franchise’s future and “cannot wait to share more” information about the game.
