Capcom is getting ready to add a little Street Fighter V to Monster Hunter: World.
“In just a few weeks,” PS4 players who own Street Fighter V will get early access to a quest called “Down the Dark, Muddy Path.” Completing this quest (and taking the “SFV Tickets” you receive to the Smithy) will unlock a special Ryu armor set. Xbox One owners, and PS4 players who don’t also own Street Fighter V, will get the chance to unlock the Ryu armor set at a later date.
Monster Hunter: World players will also be able to unlock a Sakura armor set in a similar manner, but Capcom is currently keeping the details under wraps.
Check out the trailer above for a closer look at the Ryu armor set. And head over to the Capcom-Unity blog for more information about premium Ryu-themed Gestures and Chat Stamp Sets also coming to Monster Hunter: World.
Microsoft is closing out the week with a big Xbox Games Store update and the launch of four new Xbox One games…
First up is Celeste, the new side-scrolling platformer from Matt Thorson. Unlike the multiplayer antics of his first game, TowerFall, Thorson has asked players to complete the jumps necessary to climb Celeste Mountain in his “super-tight, hand-crafted platformer.”
Also available to download today is Dragon Ball Fighter Z, a 2D fighting game set within the Dragon Ball universe. Developed by Arc System Works, Dragon Ball Fighter Z includes dozens of characters and an anime-like graphical style.
Massive battles are also at the center of Monster Hunter: World, which is also available to download today courtesy of Capcom. Players will be able to explore a brand new world by themselves or with up to three friends and fight it out with a diverse set of giant beasts.
Finally this week, Awesome Industries will launch the budget-priced Drift Zone, a racing game that’s all about drifting.
You can learn more about all of today’s additions to the Xbox Games Store after the break. (more…)
It’s a big week for the PlayStation Store, and several long-awaited PS4 games will make their way to the digital storefront over the next few days.
Leading the pack is Celeste, a competitive mountain-climbing game from Matt Thorson, the creator of TowerFall. Also set to launch this week is Lost Sphear, the latest retro-styled RPG from Square Enix’s Tokyo RPG Factory. And Capybara Games returns this week with OK K.O.! Let’s Play Heroes, a beat ’em up based on the Cartoon Network series.
Elsewhere on the PlayStation Store, Bandai Namco and Arc System Works will bring Dragon Ball Fighter Z to the PS4 on Friday. It’ll be released on the same day as Capcom’s newest monster-hunting action RPG, Monster Hunter: World. And Supermassive Games will rewind the clock on Until Dawn with The Inpatient, a PlayStation VR-powered sanitarium simulation.
Finally, Telltale will continue their newest Batman adventure with Batman: The Enemy Within – Episode 4: What Ails You.

A trio of new games will be available on store shelves this week, and all three should provide plenty thrills for players.
Bandai Namco and Arc System Works will team up to release Dragon Ball Fighter Z for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One on Friday, January 26. The 2D fighter will include dozens of characters, as well as a graphical style that attempts to recreate the signature look of the popular anime franchise.
Also set to launch on store shelves this Friday is Capcom’s Monster Hunter: World. The latest game in the monster-hunting franchise will be released for the PS4 and Xbox One, and it’ll include a massive new continent and drop-in multiplayer.
Finally this week, Sony and Supermassive Games will release The Inpatient for the PS4 on Tuesday, January 23. The PlayStation VR-powered horror title takes place more than 60 years before Supermassive’s Until Dawn and it promises to immerse players in the conspiracy-laden hallways of Blackwood Sanatorium.
That’s it for this week’s New Retail Releases, but we’ll be back later this week with a look at all the new additions to the PlayStation Store, Xbox Games Store, and Nintendo eShop.
Latest Monster Hunter: World trailer introduces Elder Dragons and teases Spring 2018 update
Capcom will unleash Monster Hunter: World on unsuspecting PS4 and Xbox One owners on January 26, but first they wanted to share some details about the game’s biggest threats… the Elder Dragons. The beastly creatures will play a central role in Monster Hunter: World’s story, and a new post on the Capcom-Unity blog shared a few more details:
[T]he New World is filled with a vast roster of unique monsters for you to hunt and craft gear from. Today weve revealed a new monster called Dodogama, a crystal-eating wyvern that can coat its favorite snack with a unique saliva that turns them into explosive projectiles, as well as returning fan-favorites from a calamitous category of monsters: the Elder Dragons!
The main plot of Monster Hunter: World centers around uncovering the mysterious migration patterns of Elder Dragons, dubbed the Elder Crossing, and has you chasing the trails of the colossal Zorah Magdaros.
Eagle-eyed viewers will notice that the end of the trailer includes a quick glimpse at Monster Hunter: World’s first free update. Featuring “everyones favorite raging pickle brute wyvern,” Deviljho, the update will be available to download in the Spring.
Capcom also confirmed that PS4 owners will get the chance to participate in the final Beta Test for Monster Hunter: World beginning on January 18. The Beta Test will include new quests, and will conclude on January 21.
In addition to the imminent PS4 and Xbox One launch, Monster Hunter: World is also in development for the PC. That version of the game will be released this Fall.
The 25th Ward: The Silver Case will come to US in 2018… Monster Hunter: World to launch on January 26
It’s Tokyo Game Show time, and we’ve learned some fresh new details about the launch of Capcom’s Monster Hunter: World and an enhanced remake of Goichi “Suda 51” Suda’s The 25th Ward: The Silver Case.
Both are set to launch in 2018, but we’ve got new trailers for both after the break. (more…)
Capcom unveiled Monster Hunter: World during Sony’s E3 Press Conference last night. But this morning, the publisher confirmed the game will also be available for the PC and Xbox One.
Monster Hunter: World will include a familiar progression system built around acquiring skills and loot, along with the franchise’s “robust” crafting system. Players will also be able to jump online and battle the game’s huge beasts with up to three other players in cooperative play:
Monster Hunter: World delivers a seamless gameplay experience allowing players to move freely across map areas that comprise the living ecosystems and dynamically transition from day to night. The landscape and its diverse inhabitants play a critical role in each quest as players strategically use the surrounding environment including terrain, vegetation and wildlife to their advantage in battle or become hindered by the hazards they present. Hunters must use their cunning and abilities to track and maneuver their targets throughout the intense, evolving battles.
With flexible online multiplayer options and an accessible quest structure, players can tackle challenges alone or join up to three other hunters online for cooperative play. For the first time in the Monster Hunter series, players from Japan and the west can play together online, providing an expanded base of cooperative hunting companions. With the new online drop-in functionality, solo players can hail for assistance from the worldwide group during quests when their opponents are too daunting to take on single-handedly.
Monster Hunter: World will be available for the PS4 and Xbox One in Early 2018, though PS4 players will receive some additional (and exclusive) game content. A PC launch will follow at a later date.
Monster Hunter: World was announced by Capcom during Sony’s E3 Press Conference. The action-packed trailer showed a character facing off against a mean-looking, fire-breathing T-Rex. The action looks frantic and absolutely crazy.
Monster Hunter: World will be released for the PS4 in Early 2018
