Warp Zoned’s 2015 Golden Pixel Awards: Honoring Our Favorite Games From Last Year

wzgoldenpixelawards-header

The conventional wisdom will tell you that 2015 was a down year for games and that all the good stuff got pushed back to 2016. But how can you trust the conventional wisdom when last year featured a ridiculously entertaining string of good games starring kid squids, gothic hunters, glitchy sci-fi heroes, and the lone survivor of a nuclear war. And all that’s before you dip into the millions of user-created levels from Super Mario Maker.

Yup, we think 2015 was a pretty great year for games, especially the ones that took home some hardware during our annual Golden Pixel Awards… (more…)

PS Store Today: N++, King’s Quest Chapter 1, Life Is Strange Episode 4, more

nplusplus-newheader

Sony’s PSN Play 2015 promotion continues this week with the release of N++ (PS4), a minimalist side-scroller where players take control of a gold-seeking ninja. Leap wide chasms, avoid obstacles, and watch out for those rockets! N++ is packed with hundreds of hand-crafted levels and an extensive level editor to create and share even more.

Also available this week is new entries in a pair of episodic adventure games. Life Is Strange: Dark Room (PS3, PS4) is the fourth episode in Dontnod’s apocalyptic tale and Max finally gets an eyeful of just how dangerous time travel can be. But danger is the name of the game in King’s Quest: A Knight to Remember (PS3, PS4), the first episode in The Odd Gentlemen’s reboot of the classic adventure series. Though I doubt a game described as “whimsical” and “charming” by its developers deals with the end of the world.

But speaking of the end of the world, another group of teenagers will have to stop a monstrous evil, actually named “The End,” from destroying the world in Atlus’s Lost Dimension. The twist this time is that the 11 kids at the center of the story are psychics and at least one is a traitor. You’d think a group of psychics wouldn’t have a problem with that kind of treachery…

Finally this week, we end with another dash of “whimsical” and “charming” with Legend of Kay Anniversary (PS3, PS4). A remaster of a ten-year-old PS2 game starring a feline samuari, Legend of Kay Anniversary is nothing if not adorable.

More information on all of these games (and a few others) can be found after the break. And a complete rundown of this week’s new game add-ons and discounts can be found at the PlayStation Blog. (more…)

N++ will be released for the PS4 on July 28

We’ve all been waiting patiently for the return of the N series and its gold-stealing ninja protagonist. Today, Metanet Software confirmed that N++ will be available for the PS4 beginning on July 28.

They also confirmed a few other facts about N++’s development process in the trailer embedded above. For example, the game requires 166,092 lines of code, which took two and a half years to write. N++ also includes 2,360 “unique handcrafted levels” which contain 63,335 pieces of gold. And according to the PlayStation Blog, N++’s first big update “will effectively double the size of the game.”

Be sure to watch the trailer above for more N++ facts and start celebrating that the game is only two weeks away.

Opposites kill in N++’s Toggle Mine and Laser Turret trailers

Metanet Software has released the final two “Enemy Spotlight” trailers for N++ and it’s true what they say, opposites kill. Wait, wait, opposites attract. But the Toggle Mine and the Laser Turret are opposites and they most definitely kill.

Toggle Mines are normally docile, but as soon as you step on one it springs to life like a crazed whack-a-mole. So if you want stay alive you better stay one step ahead of the spiky bomb that pops out of the hole. You can see what I mean in the trailer embedded above.

After the break you can find a trailer depicting the Laser Turret in all its deadly glory. Unlike the Toggle Mine, the Laser Turret is always on as the only thing that can break a laser beam is a solid object. In N++, that solid object will sometimes be a wall or a solid platform, but most of the time it will be your face.

N++ will be released exclusively for the PS4 sometime this year. (more…)

Can you survive the Evil Ninja and the Micro Drone in these N++ trailers? Probably not…

Metanet Software continues their series of N++ enemy trailers with a look at the Evil Ninja and (after the break) the Micro Drone. Like all the enemies in N++, they will kill you… a lot… though the Evil Ninja looks trickier than most. Two more trailers for the devilishly hard platformer will be released over the next two weeks, but in case you missed it, feel free to gaze at the stick figure carnage caused by Rockets and Deathballs in the first pair of trailers.

N++ is currently in development for the PS4 and will be released soon. (more…)

N++ will kill you dead with Rockets and Deathballs in these new trailers

Metanet Software is nearing completion on N++, but first they’d like to introduce the game’s enemies to prospective players through a series of trailers. This week, the Rocket takes center stage as the obstacle between N++’s ninja and the gold he seeks. Oh little ninja man, is your side-scrolling pursuit of gold really worth the Rocket-aided obliteration that will surely follow?

In last week’s video, our ninja took on a devilish machine known as a Deathball… and didn’t fare much better. It’s been embedded after the break if you need another dose of brutal stick figure death. And be on the lookout for N++, which will be released for the PS4 sometime this Spring/Summer. (more…)

Indie Megabooth lineup for PAX Prime 2014 announced

After a successful trip across the Atlantic, the Indie Megabooth is coming back to North America with a massive PAX Prime 2014 installation. But before I begin this news article, I’d like to congratulate Warp Zoned’s Nicole Kline and Anthony Amato, who will be sitting in with this iteration of the Indie Megabooth with their card game, Resistor.

But if you’re looking for some video games, there are plenty of great titles on display. All told, 78 games will be available within the confines of the Indie Megabooth… 58 featured games and 20 more as part of the Minibooth. Some of this year’s heavy hitters include a new game from Team Meat (A Voyeur For September), the next game from the Threes guys (Close Castles), the intriguing Oculus title Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes, and N++ (a game which needs no introduction). Over in the Minibooth, you’ll three of our favorites from PAX East 2014: Max Gentlemen, Catlateral Damage, and Tetropolis.

N++ gameplay teaser trailer promises new levels, enemies, challenges

Ninja platformer N++ looks gorgeous in this brand new gameplay teaser trailer, and the music just makes it all so much more epic. It will have new levels, colours (those Brits), and enemies, and there will be explosions. Maybe a lot of explosions.

N++ is a PlayStation 4 exclusive and, if the trailer can be believed, is coming “soonish” (AKA sometime in 2014).
