Recent Articles: Saints Row: The Third
THQ’s Saints Row: The Third just keeps looking better and better. The latest trailer, “Freefalling,” is from the second mission in the game. The Syndicate gets miffed when the Saints rob one of their banks, and capture you, Johnny Gat, and Shaundi. After it’s clear the Syndicate won’t get what it wants from the Saints, they try to take them out – but you and Johnny have a different idea. I love the humor in this – Johnny Gat says he’ll go fly the plane, to which Shaundi replies: “Johnny, you can’t even drive stick. How are you going to pilot a plane?” Check out the trailer to see some of the freefalling action, and how you have to catch Shaundi before it’s too late.
Saints Row: The Third will be out October 15 on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.
Daniel Dae Kim, known to Saints Row fans everywhere as the voice of Johnny Gat, will reprise his role in The Third. In the new game, Gat has become “the face of high class crime,” which is a far cry from Kim’s appearances as Jin on “Lost” and Chin Ho on “Hawaii Five-0.”
The wrestler is none other than Hulk Hogan. The Hulkster will fill the (thankfully) yellow boots of Angel De LaMuerte, a legendary professional wrestler. According to THQ, Angel was “betrayed by his former tag-team partner Killbane, now the merciless leader of the Lucadores street gang.” To exact his revenge, he teams up with the Saints.
Finally, the porn star is none other than Sasha Grey. Surprisingly, the “Entourage” star won’t be playing a porn star (THQ refers to her as just “Actress Sasha Grey” in the press release). Instead, she’ll lend her voice to Viola DeWynter, the mastermind behind The Syndicate’s financial empire.
So anyway. A cop, a wrestler and a porn star walk into a bar and the bartender says…
The words “over the top” and “Saints Row” are pretty much permanently linked in the eyes of many gamers. And that definitely won’t change when Saints Row: The Third is released for the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 on November 15.
Check out the game’s E3 trailer above for some of the wildest action you’ve ever seen, including a rooftop shootout between the Third Row Saints and a squadron of VTOL (Vertical Take-Off and Landing) jets. Yup, I’d say that qualifies as “over the top.”
After a flurry of announcements this week, THQ has finally unveiled their complete E3 lineup. Aside from the new stuff like Metro: Last Light, WWE ’12 and UFC Undisputed 3, this is the same lineup of games THQ talked about last year.
Sadly, there appears to be no mention of the publisher’s more distant projects like Darksiders II, Devil’s Third, Guillermo Del Toro’s Insane and the Turtle Rock-developed first person shooter.
You can check out THQ’s complete lineup after the break. (more…)
Ninja? Pirate? Ninja-pirate? Naked ninja-pirate? The choice is yours…
First off, that’s the greatest opening to a press release in… well, pretty much ever. Secondly, ninjas and pirates are almost totally identified by what they wear, so there can never be a “naked ninja-pirate.” Although, I suppose if anyone could pull it off, Johnny Depp could.
All this talk of pirates and ninjas is because THQ has revealed the Saints Row Initiation Station, a standalone character creator that’ll be made available for free ahead of Saints Row: The Third‘s holiday release. But pirates and ninjas running around Steelport will seem relatively normal next to some of the other character ideas THQ has suggested:
- Your favorite train wreck celebrity-turned reality TV star
- Your least favorite overpaid prima donna professional athlete
- A cape-wearing superhero (or villain)
- Cowboys and Indians
- A Dominatrix and her sex slave
- Tag-team wrestling partners with sordid pasts
Players will be able to use the Initiation Station to create as many characters as they can come up with. These characters can then be uploaded and shared with all your closest friends. You can even download someone else’s character and change it to suit your own twisted imagination.
Oh yeah, Saints Row 3 is going to awesome. Or at least awesomely bizarre.
THQ used their quarterly financial call to reveal a bit more about its 2011-2012 release slate.
For this year, the publisher is readying MX vs. ATV Alive for release this month, Red Faction: Armageddon on June 7, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine for August and UFC Personal Trainer sometime this Summer. Towards the end of the year, THQ plans to release Saints Row: The Third and the next WWE game along with bringing their uDraw GameTablet to the PS3 and Xbox 360.
Speaking of Saints Row, after the call, the publisher told Joystiq that Saints Row: Drive-By (the franchise’s 3DS/PSN/XBLA spinoff) was canceled. Bummer.
But 2012 is looking great for THQ as they revealed that they have several major releases planned including the unannounced UFC Undisputed 2012, Darksiders 2, Tomonobu Itagaki’s Devil’s Third, Metro 2033: Last Light and Warhammer 40,000: Dark Millennium Online.
Finally, the publisher publicly commented on Nintendo’s next console: “[THQ is] excited about the prospect of new hardware next year and look[s] forward to working on that system.” Got an opinion of which of THQ’s 2012 releases will make the leap to the Wii 2/Project Cafe? Let us know in the comments.
Above, you’ll find the first 2.7 seconds of gameplay footage from Saints Row: The Third. Hopefully, THQ and Volition plan to release more information about the game, which is scheduled for a Holiday 2011 release on the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360, soon.
Fans of the over-the-top, open-world crimefest that is the Saints Row series will be pleased to know the latest entry, Saints Row: The Third, will be available this Holiday season for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.
The game will take a turn for the series, as the player will begin as already being the head of a criminal organization, with all of the benefits that go along with it, instead of starting from the bottom. “There’s no delivering pizza, no shuttling family members about in a long series of taxi missions. Instead, you take all the power of the Third Street Saints and you take the world by storm,” said Executive Vice President of Core Games (what?) Danny Bilson of THQ. We could take it a step further and say it’ll take video game forums by storm, as after the last two iterations of each franchise, many hold that Saints Row has surpassed Grand Theft Auto.
More information will be available when the April issue of Game Informer hits subscribers’ mailboxes soon.
