New Zelda Amiibo coming December 2: 8-Bit Link, OoT Link, Wind Waker Link/Zelda 2-Pack

While the crazed fervor for Amiibo figures has died down considerably since their 2014 debut, the collectible toys are still quite popular with fans, and Nintendo doesn’t look to be slowing down production on new figures anytime soon.

Earlier this morning, Nintendo announced plans to celebrate The Legend of Zelda‘s 30th anniversary with four new Amiibo figures, all of which will be available on December 2. An NES-inspired “8-Bit Link” figure will certainly get fans talking, and it’ll be joined on store shelves by another Link based on his Ocarina of Time appearance, and a two-pack that includes both Toon Link and Zelda from The Wind Waker.

These Amiibo figures will feature the same functionality as the other Link, Toon Link, and Zelda figures from the Super Smash Bros. series, but they’ll also provide special functionality in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild when it launches next year.

The exact specifics of this special functionality will be announced at a later date.

Seven new Amiibo figures will be added to the “Super Mario” line in November

supermarioamiibo-e32016While Nintendo has put the majority of their E3 attention on The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, the consolemaker also unveiled a new wave of Amiibo figures that’ll be added to the “Super Mario” line on November 4.

While most of the figures are new designs for familiar characters (Donkey Kong, Diddy Kong, Wario, and Roaslina), a few are receiving the Amiibo treatment for the first time (Waluigi, Daisy, and Boo). These seven figures aren’t tied to a specific game, but they’ll be compatible with a wide range of Wii U and 3DS titles such as Mario Party 10 and Super Smash Bros. For 3DS/Wii U.

Nintendo will presumably add the figures to their Amiibo Compatibility Chart very soon.

UPDATE: The seven figures will also be compatible with Mario Party: Star Rush, which will be released for the 3DS on November 4.

Bayonetta and Corrin will be available to download for Super Smash Bros. 3DS/Wii U this week; See them battle it out in a new trailer

The final downloadable characters for Super Smash Bros. 3DS/Wii U, Bayonetta and Corrin, will be available to download from the Nintendo eShop on February 3. But if you want to get a sneak peek at the two fighters in action, then be sure to check out this new gameplay trailer from Nintendo UK.

Both characters will be available in several different packages. Corrin will be priced at $4.99 (or $5.99 to receive access to the character on both the 3DS and Wii U), while Bayonetta is slightly more expensive ($5.99 individually or $6.99 on both platforms) as she comes bundled with the Umbra Clock Tower stage.

And speaking of the Umbra Clock Tower, Nintendo UK uploaded a second new gameplay trailer that takes place on Bayonetta’s home turf. It’s been embedded after the break. (more…)

Cloud now available to download in Super Smash Bros. For 3DS/Wii U; Bayonetta and Corrin confirmed for February 2016

Nintendo uploaded a “Final Video Presentation” for Super Smash Bros. For 3DS/Wii U last night, giving gamers their first look at the final two challengers that’ll approach the Smash arena in 2016.

The video opens with a look at Corrin, a swordfighter from Fire Emblem Fates who will be available to download in February 2016. Like Wii Fit Trainer, Robin, and The Villager, players will be able to choose from a male or female version of the character. And according to Nintendo, Corrin also “has the blood of a dragon in his veins,” allowing him/her to pull off some truly amazing attacks.

Cloud Strife also gets the superstar treatment if you jump ahead to 7:55 in the video embedded above. Best of all, the Final Fantasy VII character is now available to download through the Nintendo eShop for $5.99 on the Wii U, $5.99 on the 3DS, or $6.99 on both. Featuring two costume options, players will even be able to perform Cloud’s famous Limit Break attack, as well as a Materia Summons attack on his Midgar stage.

But the biggest surprise of the presentation can be viewed at 18 minutes in, when Nintendo announced that Bayonetta received the most votes in the Smash Bros. Fighter Ballot. To thank all the fans who voted, the titular star of Bayonetta and Bayonetta 2 will be added to the Smash Bros. For 3DS/Wii U roster in February 2016, alongside a special Umbra Clock Tower stage.

Finally, Amiibo fans will be pleased to learn that figures for Ryu, R.O.B. (Famicom Style), and Roy will be available in stores on March 18, 2016. And don’t worry, Nintendo has every intention of creating Amiibo figures for Cloud, Corrin, and Bayonetta. More information on the latter trio will be announced at a later date.

Final Fantasy VII’s Cloud will join Super Smash Bros. For 3DS/Wii U as a playable character

Nintendo’s inclusion of Pac-Man, Sonic, Mega Man, and Ryu in Super Smash Bros. For 3DS/Wii U has already made the fighting game THE destination for players looking to settle their “my favorite character can beat up your favorite character” arguments. But today’s announcement is probably going to shatter the Internet’s collective mind…

Final Fantasy VII‘s Cloud Strife will soon be added to the game as a playable character.

Cloud’s addition to Super Smash Bros. For 3DS/Wii U was announced today as part of Nintendo’s most recent Nintendo Direct presentation. It’s currently unknown when Cloud will approach the battlefield, but Nintendo will upload a special “Smash Broadcast” sometime in December with more details on the character and his Midgar Stage. Hopefully, Nintendo will announce a release date then. For now, you can get a sneak peak at the swashbuckling Cloud in the Nintendo Direct video embedded above.

And don’t forget, Nintendo previously committed to producing Amiibo figures for every Smash Bros. character, including those available exclusively as downloadable content. So an Amiibo figure of Cloud is likely in the works and will presumably be revealed soon.

Nintendo dates Star Fox Zero, Fatal Frame 5, Devil’s Third, and more games for this Fall

nintendologo

While most Nintendo fans are pretty broken up about The Legend of Zelda Wii U‘s delay, the consolemaker still has an extensive lineup of games on track to launch this Fall. Earlier this week, they announced official release dates for three of these games…

  • Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water, a horror game developed in collaboration with Koei Tecmo, will be available exclusively through the Wii U eShop on October 22. Players will also be able to download a free-to-start demo that includes the prologue, the first chapter, and a good portion of the second.
  • Star Fox Zero, the first game in the franchise for the Wii U, will be released on November 20.
  • Devil’s Third, a melee brawler for the Wii U from Tomonobu Itagaki, will be released on December 11.

In addition to these three titles, Nintendo also nailed down release dates for several new Amiibo figures. The Mii Fighters 3-Pack, which is compatible with Super Smash Bros. For 3DS and Super Smash Bros. For Wii U, will be released on November 1. It’ll be followed by Mewtwo on November 13, Mega Yarn Yoshi (for use with Yoshi’s Woolly World) on November 15, and Falco on November 20.

And don’t forget about Mario. A Wii U System Bundle featuring Super Mario Maker will be available exclusively at Walmart on September 11. The bundle, which will retail for $299.96, will include the system, the game, an Idea Book, and a 30th Anniversary Mario Amiibo in “Modern Colors.” Mario’s first Wii U adventure will even get a makeover this Fall as a special New Super Mario Bros. U + New Super Luigi U package will be released on October 16 with a $59.99 price tag.

Finally, Nintendo promised that Animal Crossing: Amiibo Festival and Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash, both of which are in development for the Wii U, will be released sometime during the “Holiday” season. I guess it is beginning to look a lot like Christmas…

Nintendo plans to reissue rare Amiibo figures (Little Mac, Villager, Marth, more) this Fall

noa-amiibosIt looks like several previously rare Amiibo figures will be reissued this Fall, including Little Mac, Villager, Marth, and many others. A re-release for these figures was confirmed after they were included in a list of “Certificates of Compliance” that Nintendo recently filed in accordance with the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act.

The full list of certificates available on Nintendo’s website also includes a number of figures announced as part of the company’s next wave of Amiibo figures. So it’s safe to assume that the restocked rarities will also appear on store shelves sometime in the next two months.

So which figures should Amiibo hunters be on the lookout for in the coming days? Here’s the complete list:

  • Bowser (Super Mario series)
  • Captain Falcon (Super Smash Bros. series)
  • Charizard (Super Smash Bros. series)
  • Inkling Boy (Splatoon series)
  • Inkling Girl (Splatoon series)
  • Ike (Super Smash Bros. series)
  • King Dedede (Super Smash Bros. series)
  • Little Mac (Super Smash Bros. series)
  • Luigi (Super Mario series)
  • Marth (Super Smash Bros. series)
  • Pac-Man (Super Smash Bros. series)
  • Peach (Super Mario series)
  • Pikachu (Super Smash Bros. series)
  • Splatoon 3-Pack (Splatoon series)
  • Toad (Super Mario series)
  • Villager (Super Smash Bros. series)
  • Wario (Super Smash Bros. series)

Hopefully, these re-releases will satisfy the demand of Amiibo fans everywhere as a huge number of figures have become impossible to find on store shelves since Nintendo introduced Amiibo figures in 2014. Personally, I’m just thrilled that my own white whale, Little Mac, is on the list. But even with renewed stock, I still might have to dance like a fly and bite like a mosquito to get one.

Next wave of Amiibo figures (including Zero Suit Samus, Ganondorf, Dr. Mario, more) will be available on September 11

amiibo-september112015Super Mario Maker definitely won’t be lonely on store shelves on September 11, as Nintendo has announced the next wave of Amiibo figures will also be available on that date. In addition to the “Classic Color” version of the 30th Anniversary Mario figure, Super Smash Bros. For 3DS/Wii U players will be able to pick up figures based on Bowser Jr., Dr. Mario, Ganondorf, Olimar/Pikmin, and Zero Suit Samus.

Another set of Smash Bros. figures will follow on September 25 in a “Retro 3 Pack.” The Duck Hunt Dog, Mr. Game and Watch, and R.O.B. will be packaged together for players who fondly remember the 1980s. Another three-pack, this one featuring the Mii Fighters, will be available in November.

Finally, a release date for the “Modern Color” version of the 30th Anniversary Mario figure will be announced at a later date.
