Here’s an eerie new trailer for The Order: 1886 set to “Silent Night”

Nothing says “Merry Christmas” likes shooting some werewolves. At least, that’s the thought process behind this new trailer for The Order: 1886, which was first unveiled on Christmas Eve. Watch as the titular demon hunters traipse through Victorian London battling werewolves while a very melancholy version of “Silent Night” plays in the background.

The Order: 1886 will be released exclusively for the PS4 on February 20, but the game’s developers plan to make that wait go by a bit faster with a special Countdown Contest. Ready At Dawn and Sony Santa Monica will hand out a special item related to The Order every 18 hours, 8 minutes, and 6 seconds from now until the game’s launch. You can grab a cool pin, statue, or mustache comb (that’s right, a mustache comb) emblazoned with characters and images from The Order. Other prizes will surely be announced in the coming days, but the only way you can win is to enter at PlayStation.com.

EGX 2014 Report: Assassin’s Creed Unity, Arkham Knight, The Order 1886, and More

egx-header

EGX London, formerly known as the Eurogamer Expo, finally gives UK players a chance to their hand at unreleased games after all the other big Summer shows: E3, PAX Prime, Gamescom, and TGS. It sits at the right time of year too! I always tend to get a bit down on games over the Summer when my consoles sit mostly unused. After playing a dozen of the biggest games scheduled to release over the next nine months, I’m excited to finally charge a DualShock 4 again. On top of that, talking to so many gamers in one place really gives you a nice vertical slice of where the industry sits at the moment. But first… the games! (more…)

Gaze upon the Lycans of The Order: 1886 in this behind-the-scenes video

Previously, Ready At Dawn focused most of their marketing muscle behind the titular Order of The Order: 1886. But now they’re ready to show us the flip side of this centuries-long struggle. In a new developer diary, several members of the Ready At Dawn team revealed the Half-Breeds, a werewolf-like race of hybrids that are also known as Lycans.

So yeah, call them what you want, but they’re werewolves. In addition to giving us our first glimpse at this bestial group, developers from Ready At Dawn used the video to talk at length about the creative process behind their werewolves. It’s definitely worth a watch.

The Order: 1886 will be available exclusively for the PS4 on February 20.

Continue Countdown #5 – Mortal Kombat X, Forza Horizon 2, Pre-E3 Predictions, More

It’s the most wonderful time of the year as the 2014 E3 Expo is right around the corner. The Warp Zoned staff spent a recent night chatting about some of the big pre-E3 announcements during the latest episode of “Continue Countdown.” We pre-pre-judged Mortal Kombat X, Homefront: The Revolution, Forza Horizon 2, BattleCry, Battlefield Hardline, and Hyrule Warriors in the first six segments of the show.

But we also wanted to worry and fret over a trio of delayed games (Batman: Arkham Knight, The Order: 1886, and Quantum Break) as well as speculate about what a Smash Bros.-style Mario Kart game would be like (spoiler alert: it would be AWESOME). And the eternal question (How much would you pay for an E.T. cartridge excavated from a landfill?) was answered.

Finally, we slipped a few E3 predictions in there. We’re probably way off the mark, but it’s that magical pre-E3 time when anything seems possible.

Sony has pushed the release of The Order: 1886 into 2015

Sony has been positioning Ready At Dawn’s The Order: 1886 as this Fall’s major PS4 exclusive. But after today’s delay, it looks like the consolemaker will have to put together a new battle plan. In a post on the PlayStation Blog, Ready At Dawn’s Creative Director, Ru Weerasuriya, confirmed that The Order: 1886’s release has been pushed back to early 2015.

We’ll get our next big taste of The Order: 1886 as this year’s E3 Expo, but until then, Weerasuriya and some of the other developers got together to give fans a behind-the-scenes look at the game’s world in a new developer diary. “Fusing History & Mythology” examines how the Ready At Dawn team has reshaped Victorian London into a retro-futuristic city with advanced weaponry, magic, zeppelins, and werewolf-like creatures known as Half-Breeds. But I think the most interesting thing is how much of the time and the town that went unchanged.

Ready At Dawn also recently released a new gameplay video of The Order: 1886 showcasing Galahad’s Thermite rifle and the “heightened state” and focused abilities of the game’s Blacksight mechanic.

First gameplay video of The Order 1886 revealed

“The wall dividing life and death… it is so thin.”

So says the narrator in this first gameplay trailer of The Order 1886 over at Machinima’s Inside Gaming. Ru Weerasuriya, the CEO and Creative Director and Ready at Dawn, sat down for an interview to discuss some of the decisions they made while designing the game.

One of the most interesting points is about the developers not falling into a typical trope – instead of having the player control Lafayette, the rookie, they decided to have them control Gallahad, who has far more experience within The Order. They came to the decision organically, Weerasuriya said. The best person “to live the story” was “someone with experience, who saw the world the way it was, and will see the world the way that it is in the future… Lafayette would have too many questions.”

The Order 1886 will be out later this year for the PlayStation 4.

Take “The Pledge” to join The Order 1886 in new trailer

Since its public debut, the PlayStation 4-exclusive The Order 1886 has been causing a stir amongst Sony fans looking for the system’s first truly next-gen, must-buy title. Now, the company has released a stonking new trailer that reveals more about the mysterious order of knights and their mission a technologically advanced Victorian London.

The game’s developer, Ready At Dawn, has taken a leaf from Naughty Dog with this new trailer, in which a gruff narrator talks while the camera glides through time, chasing a mysterious black ooze that seems to represent the evil forces players will face. Eagled-eyed viewers will spot various references and clues about the game hidden within the texts and newspapers that flash by. It comes to a head with a sneak peak at two of the knights, a young female and the moustached protagonist from the original reveal. As he says, “I think we should be prepared for anything.”

The Order 1886 will be released this Fall.

The Order: 1886 will probably be released in Fall 2014

theorder1886-header

Even though we don’t know much about Ready At Dawn’s first PS4 project, The Order: 1886, the game’s strong visuals and irresistible hook (werewolves in a futurist-Victorian London!) has lead some gamers to already anoint it 2014’s “Game of the Year.” While I’m not ready to go that far just yet, Ready At Dawn’s Andrea Pessino and Sony Santa Monica’s Tim Moss have narrowed down the launch window. Not surprisingly, The Order: 1886 is currently on track for a Fall 2014 release:

Before The Order: 1886, Ready At Dawn was best known for developing both God of War games on the PSP. Sony Santa Monica, which created the God of War series, is assisting Ready At Dawn with The Order: 1886’s development.
