TitanFall-mania has engulfed the NPD Group as the market research firm confirmed today that Respawn’s shooter is the best-selling game of March 2014.

March releases dominated the latest bestseller list as InFamous: Second Son (#2), South Park: The Stick of Truth (#3), Dark Souls II (#5), and Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster (#8) all cracked the top ten. The retail release of Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition continues to hang on as it checks in at #10 once again. The console port of Mojang’s popular game will surely get a boost in May as Sony will make the disc-based version Minecraft: PlayStation 3 Edition available on store shelves. According to Joystiq, total hardware/software/accessory sales were up 3% over March 2013 with a 78% increase in console sales according for the majority of the sales bump.

The first TitanFall expansion will be known as “Expedition”

titanfall-header

The Respawn Entertainment panel at this year’s PAX East convention included a brand new tidbit of information about TitanFall that fans of the game may be interested in: details on the game’s first expansion. Known as “Expedition,” the first map pack for the game will be available this May and it will include three new maps: “Runoff,” “Swamplands,” and “Wargames.”

In the wake of the Battle of Demeter, IMC Expeditionary Forces travel deep into Frontier space to recover from their recent defeat. On an uncharted world, the IMC begin construction of a new fleet operations base, using newly acquired water collection and filtration plants to support the new base. When drainage operations reveal ancient ruins and artifacts of an unknown origin in a nearby swamp, Spyglass activates an archaeological team to investigate the site. To maintain battle readiness at the new base, IMC Pilots use simulation pods to train for anticipated Militia raids, based on lessons learned in Angel City and IMC Airbase Sierra.

TitanFall: Expedition will be the first of three downloadable expansions for the game. The expansion will be released for the Xbox One and PC, as well as the Xbox 360. It will carry a $9.99 price tag on all three platforms, unless you purchased the TitanFall Season Pass, which includes access to all three packs for a discounted price ($24.99).

A PC version of the game will be also be downloadable this week through Steam.

4/1: Optimus Prime DLC is NOT in the works for TitanFall

Ah, April 1. The time of the year where we report on what’s not happening in the world of video games. Kicking things off this year is IGN’s annual gag, which is not an announcement trailer for the first bit of downloadable content for TitanFall.

The “Prime Pack” is actually a brilliant piece of crossover marketing and I almost wish it were real. The prank places Optimus Prime, complete with his laser cannon and trusty laser axe, in a middle of a hectic TitanFall battle: “One shall stand, Titans shall fall.”

Seriously, how perfect is that? EA, Respawn, and Activision (the current rights holder to Transformers video games) should get on this right away.

Microsoft @ PAX East 2014: Project Spark, TitanFall, Super Time Force, more

xboxone-boxMicrosoft plans to have a huge presence at this year’s PAX East convention, but temper your expectations, as most of the games they’re bringing to the show are already available to all.

The centerpiece of the Xbox booth will be this Spring’s biggest game, TitanFall. It will be joined by cartoony shooter Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare (originally released in February), game creator Project Spark (which is currently available in open beta), and a quartet of launch games (Forza Motorsport 5, Dead Rising 3, Ryse: Son of Rome, and Killer Instinct). Early April releases Kinect Sports Rivals and Strike Suit Zero: Director’s Cut will also be playable at the Microsoft booth.

As of right now, the only unreleased game Microsoft plans to show in its PAX East booth is Super Time Force. This leads me to guess that Super Time Force is probably going to be added to the Xbox Live Store pretty soon. Just a hunch.

More details on Microsoft’s PAX East 2014 plans for all of these titles are available after the break. You can also read all about the panels the consolemaker will be hosting, including a Project Spark panel, a TitanFall panel, and a live recording of Major Nelson’s podcast. (more…)

Xbox 360 edition of TitanFall will now be released on April 8

titanfall-header

The Xbox 360 edition of TitanFall has been delayed again. Originally set to launch on March 11, the previous-generation port was first pushed back two weeks to March 25. Today, it received another two-week delay and will now be available in stores on April 8.

EA’s Patrick Soderlund has confirmed that the main reason for the delay is to give the Xbox 360 version of the game a little additional polishing:

I’ve been playing the game a lot, and it is fantastic. But we see a few things that can be made even better, so we’re giving Bluepoint a little more time to do just that and deliver an epic Titanfall experience for Xbox 360 players.

You can read more thoughts from Soderlund at TitanFall’s official website.
