Watch Dogs is coming to every platform ever this holiday season

Well, not quite every platform, but it will be one of Ubisoft’s most widely released titles to date. Ubisoft’s CEO Yves Guillemot was at the New York launch event for Sony’s new console, the PlayStation 4. There, he was singing the console’s praises, and revealed that Watch Dogs will be available during the system’s launch this holiday season.

“Ubisoft has a strong history of supporting new technologies with unique and creative offerings. The power and capability of the PS4 allows the Watch Dogs team to further push the boundaries of what was previously thought possible in interactive entertainment.”

Bold words, but Ubisoft are not hedging their bets on Sony’s new box alone. With the company showing the same strategy that has lead it to become one of the most successful developers during the current generation, the futuristic open world third-person thriller will also be released on the console’s predecessor, the PS3, as well as the Xbox 360, PC, and the Wii U. There has been no word on if Watch Dogs is a timed exclusive for Sony’s next-generation system, but given the recent debacle surrounding the delay of Rayman Legends so it could also be released on the PS3 and Xbox 360, it would be reasonable to assume that Watch Dogs will hit all consoles simultaneously.

And while it has not been mentioned thus far, we can only assume this wide umbrella will also ensnare Microsoft’s Xbox 720, whenever it is announced.

Armored Core: Verdict Day coming this Fall to PS3, Xbox 360

armoredcoreverdictday-header

From Software’s newest entry in their long-running mech series, Armored Core: Verdict Day, is scheduled to be released on Xbox 360 and PS3 this Fall. The news was broken in a press release from publisher Namco Bandi.

The title puts gamers in a world thrown in chaos where, “Important natural resources needed for the survival of competing factions are scavenged and fought across the world with deadly Armored Core mechs. A strong trigger finger, innovative customization and strategic teamwork will be all that stand between survival and complete annihilation.”

If you’ve got a save game file from Armored Core V, you’ll be able to continue using it in Verdict Day. Also returning is the Operator Mode, which Namco Bandai promises will be enhanced with “new upgrades,” including the ability of players to “tactically command a full squad of Armored Core mechs from a tactical top-down point-of-view.” Finally, a persistent multiplayer mode will be available so you never have to play.

But if you want to, AI-controlled teammates will always be nearby.

Killzone: Shadow Fall confirmed as PS4 launch title on Jimmy Fallon

Late night’s most famous gamer, Jimmy Fallon, is the first person outside of Sony Computer Entertainment to publicly get his hands on the PlayStation 4. During last night’s Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, the talk show host was joined by actor Anthony Anderson and Herman Hulst, the Managing Director at Guerrilla Games.

Naturally, they played some Killzone: Shadow Fall.

Fallon and Anderson played the same section of the game we saw during Sony’s PS4 reveal, but we did learn two things. One, Anthony Anderson is an absolutely terrible video game player. And two, Killzone: Shadow Fall will be a PS4 launch game and it’ll be available this holiday season.

Super Mario Bros. 3’s World 8 in first person view is… well, super

Two years ago, YouTuber FreddieW recreated World 1-1 from Super Mario Bros. in a first person perspective. It was glorious and great and it feels like I’ve been waiting forever for an encore.

Today, FreddieW outdid himself. He jumped over the flagpole, set off all the fireworks, smashed a Koopa Troopa into the staircase for a squiggly green box worth of extra lives, and moonwalked into the castle. In other words, his latest video is cool.

FreddieW has taken the final stretch of World 8 from Super Mario Bros. 3 and recreated it in a first person view. This includes the rolling tanks, Bowser’s castle, and the final fight with the King Koopa himself.

Take a bow, you’ve earned it.

Diablo III for PS3 will be playable at PAX East 2013

diabloiii-header

After years of hints (which started before the PC version was even released), Blizzard has finally announced the existence of the console of Diablo III. And we’ll get our first chance to play it at this year’s PAX East expo (March 22-24).

Sadly, Blizzard is only bringing the PS3 version to Boston. So if you were hoping to get your hands on the new DualShock 4 controller, I’m sorry to disappoint. But the PS3 version is better than nothing, right?

“Diablo III looks and plays great on the PlayStation,” said Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. “We put a lot of care and thought into the PlayStation version to make sure it would deliver an authentic Diablo gaming experience, and we’re really pleased with the results. We can’t wait for players to try it out at PAX East.”

Diablo III on the PS3 will feature all of the enhancements found in the latest edition of the game including “the Paragon leveling system, customizable Monster Power, Brawling, and epic Legendary items.” PS3 players should be on the lookout for “an all-new user interface, including an intuitive control scheme and a new dynamic camera perspective.”

Oh yeah, and couch co-op for up to four people as well.

Rumor: Xbox 720/Durango reveal scheduled for April

xbox720logoThat didn’t take long. CVG is reporting that they’ve heard from “inside sources” within the development community and the word is that Microsoft will unveil their next-generation system, the Xbox 720/Durango, at a one-night-only media event in April.

Lending further credence to these sources, a poster on NeoGAF has unearthed a domain registration for XboxEvent.com. The domain was registered by Eventcore, an event management company that lists Microsoft among its clients.

If true, it’s great that we’ll learn more about the next Xbox sooner rather than later. But what happened to the specialness of E3? Does anyone else miss when E3 was special? Because I sure do.
