Activision reaches settlement with former Infinity Ward heads

Activision has been involved in a bitter court battle with former ex-Infinity Ward employees Jason West and Vince Zampella for over two years. The proceedings even inadvertently resulted in the outing of Bungie’s “Destiny” MMO project for Activision.

But all that is over now as the publisher has announced they’ve reached a settlement with West and Zampella. According to Activision, the terms of the settlement are “strictly confidential.”

With the court case behind them, both parties can finally look to the future. West and Zampella formed Respawn Entertainment in 2010 and are developing a “sci-fi shooter” for Electronic Arts while Activision has taken the reins at Infinity Ward and begun hiring new developers for a “future generation” game.

First freakin’ sweet details of Family Guy: Back to the Multiverse revealed

Are these details freakin’ sweet?

Nah. To steal another common Family Guy catchphrase, I’m just yankin’ ya. Even with these initial plot details, we still don’t really know anything about Family Guy: Back to the Multiverse.

We know it was written by “talent” from the show and we know it stars Brian and Stewie. We also know it’s based on the “Multiverse” episode and that the main villain is Bertram.

Even if we didn’t know these things yesterday, their announcement is still less unexpected than the time Ted Turner impregnated Carter Pewterschmidt’s dog. Here’s what Activision had to say:

Family Guy: Back to the Multiverse features an all-new original narrative that is an expansion on the popular episode, “Road to the Multiverse.” It turns the outrageous world of Family Guy into an action-packed video game filled with nods to the long-running comedy. Playing as either Stewie or Brian, each with unique abilities and weapons, players will battle their favourite Family Guy characters as they advance through Multiverse-themed levels in their pursuit to battle Stewie’s evil twin, Bertram, who has returned and is hell-bent on destroying Quahog. Fans will also be able to team up in co-op multiplayer mode or compete against each other in competitive multiplayer levels – all with a Family Guy twist.

Game Informer will unveil new Gears of War game next week

On Monday, the game industry will gather together to celebrate the start of this year’s E3 Expo. But we will also spend next Monday frantically reloading GameInformer.com to get a peek at the next Gears of War game.

The untitled game will grace the cover of the July 2012 issue, which as you can see, is shrouded in mystery. A shadowy figure is being lead (in handcuffs) down a dark corridor as Sera burns behind him.

The first details (including the title and, hopefully, a release date) will be unveiled during Microsoft’s E3 Press Conference on Monday. But Game Informer was able to reveal that the game is definitely in development for the Xbox 360.

But the one thing the magazine didn’t do was refer to the game as “Gears of War 4,” which has made the Internet’s collective mind scream “prequel!” And as you know, a certain Gears of War main character did spend a long time in prison before the start of the first game.

NetherRealm’s next game is the DC Comics fighter Injustice: Gods Among Us

WB Games has announced that the next game from NetherRealm Studios, the creators of the Mortal Kombat series, will be Injustice: Gods Among Us. Described as a “bold new fighting game franchise,” Injustice will pit heroes and villains from the DC Comics universe against each other in “in epic battles on a massive scale.”

Think of it as Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe, but without all those pesky ninjas.

Like the last two Mortal Kombat titles, Injustice will have a “deep, original story” that features such DC mainstays as Batman, Harley Quinn, Solomon Grundy, Superman, The Flash, Wonder Woman and many others.

“We can’t wait to reveal Injustice: Gods Among Us because it will give our fans and gamers an epic experience as they battle like gods as their favorite DC Comics villains and heroes,” said Ed Boon, Creative Director at NetherRealm Studios. “Our team is excited to make a fighting game that is filled with fast-paced action, incredible story-telling and iconic DC Comics characters.”

Warner Bros. will be bringing Injustice: Gods Among Us to the PS3, Wii U, and Xbox 360 sometime in 2013.

Outgoing THQ President talks Insane, Saints Row 4, more

Danny Bilson, THQ’s (now former) Executive Vice President of Core Games, has always been a little too talkative with the media. He admits as much in a recent interview with Eurogamer, his final one as a representative of THQ. Bilson also talked extensively about the company’s plans for 2013 (and beyond) and what the future holds for games like Insane, Saints Row 4, Devil’s Third, their unnamed shooter from Turtle Rock, and more.

Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition Review: The Journal of a Minecraft Adventurer

Minecraft is a phenomenon that had passed me by. Mojang’s sandbox world sounded interesting, but I was never sure what to make of it. However, when Microsoft announced plans to bring Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition to the Xbox Live Arcade, I decided to finally give it a shot. But it wasn’t I who wrote the following review. It’s actually a journal that belongs to an unnamed adventurer who just so happens to look just like me. (more…)

NBA 2K13 slams it home on October 2; tips off at Wii U launch too

It’s bad luck to change anything in the middle of a hot streak. Your favorite headband, your driving route to the court, even your underwear. It all has to stay the same. Every athlete knows this.

It looks like the people at 2K Sports are a superstitious bunch as well. Just as they’ve done every year since 2007, the publisher plans to release NBA 2K13 for the PC, PS3, PSP, Wii, and Xbox 360 during the first week of October (October 2 to be exact). A Wii U version is also in development and will ship during the “holiday season.”

NBA 2K13 is, as always, in development at Visual Concepts. This year, the developer plans to include a new downloadable NBA All-Star content package with every pre-order of the game. Buying early on the PS3 and Xbox 360 will net fans a trio of star-studded bonuses:

[The NBA All-Star] add-on content will be set in Houston, the site of the 2013 NBA All-Star Game and will allow fans to stage their own NBA All-Star Game, including three NBA All-Star events – the Foot Locker Three Point Shootout, BBVA Rising Stars Challenge, and the Sprite Slam Dunk Contest featuring all-new intuitive, pick-up-and-play controls.

Gamers can pit the NBA’s current superstars against classic players in both the Foot Locker Three Point Shootout and Sprite Slam Dunk Contest. Rosters for both the BBVA Rising Stars Challenge and 2013 NBA All-Star Game will feature the 2012 All-Stars, with dynamic updates to the 2013 rosters once the participants are announced.

“The NBA All-Star package is our way saying ‘thank you’ to fans for their ongoing love of the NBA 2K series,” said Jason Argent, Vice President of Marketing for 2K Sports. “This content provides a ton of depth and value to our fans, and it’s just the beginning of a lot of big news about NBA 2K13.”
