Kingdom Hearts III’s E3 Trailer introduces Elsa and Frozen to the franchise

For everyone grumbling about Square Enix’s decision to delay Kingdom Hearts III into 2019, this E3 Trailer’s for you…

Let it go (go, go, go go, go go, go go, go, go, go go)
Let it go
Let it go
Let it go

Featuring the world of Disney’s Frozen for the first time in the franchise, fans can catch a glimpse of Elsa, Anna, Olaf, and a lot of snowy locales. The trailer also includes new footage from the Toy Story, Hercules, and Tangled areas of the game.

“I have been so impressed working with the Kingdom Hearts team. Their artistic commitment and attention to detail creating the world of our films is truly extraordinary. It’s been a great partnership,” said Roy Conli, a producer with Walt Disney Animation Studios.

“With the release set for next January, I apologize for having to ask for a little more time than what was previously announced” said Tetsuya Nomura, the Director of Kingdom Hearts III. “The entire development team is pouring their love for the franchise into Kingdom Hearts III and is striving to create a game that all players will enjoy. We are currently at the last stages of development but will work tirelessly until the end to deliver the very best Kingdom Hearts game to date.”

Kingdom Hearts III will be released for the PS4 and Xbox One on January 29, 2019.

Devolver Digital will bring From Software’s Metal Wolf Chaos to North America in 2018

Travel back with me to the year 2004… There was no Facebook (until February, at least) and Netflix had yet to introduce streaming video. There weren’t even any iPhones and the idea of asking someone named Siri for help was completely unheard of. It was a simpler time.

From Software completed work on two games in the Armored Core series in 2004… but the prolific developer would release a third mech game that year. Even though it featured the absolutely bonkers premise of the President of the United States piloting a personal mech against his treasonous Vice President, the game known as Metal Wolf Chaos never left Japan.

But back in the present, From Software and Devolver Digital announced yesterday that Metal Wolf Chaos would finally make its way to North America in 2018 as Metal Wolf Chaos XD. The remaster will be developed by General Arcade, and it’ll feature “upgraded visual fidelity, refined controls and gameplay, a new save system, and 4K + 16:9 support for modern displays.”

Also, and I cannot repeat this enough, the President of the United States pilots a mech and does battle against his treasonous Vice President:

The country is in peril as President Michael Wilson defends the nation against a full-scale rebellion lead by Vice President Richard Hawk and the mechanized legions he commands. As the 47th President of the United States, it is your sworn duty to take your country back by any means necessary and end this unjust coup d’etat! Battle in your advanced mech… armed to the teeth… across iconic American landscapes including the Brooklyn Bridge, the Grand Canyon, and the front steps of the White House.

An E3 Trailer for Metal Wolf Chaos has been embedded above and it needs to be watched.

Bethesda and id Software are going back to Hell in the newly-announced Doom Eternal. But things are going to be a bit different in the sequel to 2016’s Doom, as the Teaser Trailer unveiled last night during Bethesda’s E3 Showcase promises a new spin on 1994’s Doom II: Hell On Earth… complete with Arachnotrons, Arch-Viles, and Pain Elementals:

Developed by id Software, Doom Eternal is the direct sequel to the award-winning and best-selling Doom (2016). Experience the ultimate combination of speed and power with the next leap in push-forward, first-person combat.

As the Doom Slayer, return to take your vengeance against the forces of Hell. Set to an all-new pulse pounding soundtrack composed by Mick Gordon, fight across dimensions as you slay new and classic demons with powerful new weapons and abilities.

Doom Eternal is currently in development for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One, and it’ll be released sometime in the not too distant future. But if you’re anxious to learn more about the game, you’ll want to pay attention to this year’s QuakeCon on August 10th, as Bethesda and id have promised to unveil the first gameplay video for Doom Eternal at the annual event.

And don’t worry, it’ll be livestreamed for everyone through the usual online channels.

Gears 5 is Kait Diaz’s story… and it’s coming to PC and Xbox One in 2019

While we got our first glimpse at Halo Infinite yesterday, we have no idea when Microsoft is returning to their signature franchise. The same can’t be said for the Gears of War, as Microsoft unveiled Gears 5 during their Xbox E3 Briefing with a Cinematic Trailer and a Gameplay Trailer.

This time around, players will spring into action as Kait Diaz (Laura Bailey), as she tries to save humanity alongside JD Fenix (Liam McIntyre), Del Walker (Eugene Byrd), and Marcus Fenix (John DiMaggio). With such a big cast, Gears 5 will be fully playable with a partner in local splitscreen or online co-op:

Sera is crumbling, your enemies uniting. Humanity’s reliance on technology has become their downfall and enemies are uniting to wipe out all survivors. As Kait, journey back to uncover the origins of the Locust, and fight with your squad to protect what’s left.

Gears 5 is currently in development at The Coalition, and it’ll be released for the PC and Xbox One in 2019. And don’t forget to check out both new trailers after the break. (more…)

New Retail Releases: Lego The Incredibles, Super Bomberman R, Yonder, Moss

The 2018 E3 Expo is almost upon us, and once again, game publishers are mostly taking the week off to hobnob down in Los Angeles. But a few brave souls are taking the plunge…

Things come together in an incredible way this week for Lego The Incredibles, which will be released for the PS4, Switch, and Xbox One. Players will be able to relive their favorite moments from the first film, as well as the upcoming The Incredibles 2 in WB Games’s latest Lego-ized adventure.

More supervillains will need to be vanquished in Super Bomberman R, which comes to the PS4 and Xbox One this week after debuting exclusively on the Switch in 2017. The new “Shiny Edition” will include the single-player Story Mode, as well as Battle Mode (offering both local and online play), and a brand new cooperative Grand Prix Mode.

Elsewhere in your local game shop this week, you’ll be able to spot new retail editions of Yonder: The Cloud Catcher Chronicles, an adventure game for the Switch, and Moss, a PSVR-powered action-adventure.

That’s it for this week’s New Retail Releases… so sit back and enjoy the rest of the E3 Expo!

Microsoft is bringing back the Battletoads in a new side-scroller in 2019

Microsoft and Rare have been teasing the return of the Battletoads across a variety of projects over the years, including a re-release of the original game in Rare Replay, a guest appearance in Shovel Knight, and Rash’s wrasslin’ debut in Killer Instinct.

And that all lead up to yesterday’s announcement of a brand new Battletoads game at the Xbox E3 Briefing.

The game will be co-developed by Rare and DLaLa Studios, and it sounds like everything you could want from a modern Battletoads game. It’ll feature “Body Morphing Genre Mash-Ups,” as well as three-player local co-op, and a hand-drawn 2.5D art style. Support for 4K resolution visuals will also be included.

Battletoads will be released sometime in 2019 for the PC and Xbox One.

Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course expansion will be available in 2019

Studio MDHR told the amassed crowds at Microsoft’s Xbox E3 Briefing that they’re returning to the world of Cuphead in 2019 with the newly-announced The Delicious Last Course expansion.

Cuphead and Mugman are coming back to help out jolly Chef Saltbaker, and to do that, they’ll tackle a completely new Isle with new bosses, new weapons, and new Charms. They’ll be joined on this quest by a third playable character (the ghostly Legendary Chalice becomes Ms. Chalice) with brand new abilities.

There’s no word on when exactly we’ll get to play the expansion in 2019. But the E3 Trailer embedded above is certainly a nice appetizer.
