New Releases: Prototype 2, Risen 2, Shifting World, More

April continues to lumber along with yet another small batch of new releases.
This week, Prototype 2 brings us back to Radical’s demented vision of open world games where a helicopter is something to be thrown and the best way to take out an enemy is by eating them! Yummy! Prototype 2 will be available for the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.
Also available this week is the pirate RPG Risen 2: Dark Waters (PC) and the PC version of Sega’s Binary Domain.
Finally, a pair of 3DS games will be new to store shelves: the shifting plotline of Shifting World and the 3D firefighting of Firefighter 3D.

Silent Hill: Revelation will open in theaters on October 26

It looks the rivalry between Silent Hill and Resident Evil will heat up again this Fall… but this time the fight is on the silver screen. Open Road Films has announced that they’ve acquired Silent Hill: Revelation and that the film will be released in theaters on October 26, five weeks after Resident Evil: Retribution‘s September 14 opening.
Silent Hill: Revelation will follow the plot of the third game in the series, including Heather Mason’s (Adelaide Clemons) discovery that she’s not who she thinks she is and her search for her missing father (Sean Bean). The film also stars Kit Harington, Carrie-Anne Moss, and Malcolm McDowell alongside returning actors Deborah Kara Unger and Radha Mitchell.
Producer Samuel Hadida is very excited about Silent Hill: Revelation, saying, “The film is a thrill ride that improves on the original in many ways. We take all audiences, new and old, deep into the world of psychological horror that is Silent Hill, and advance the story for those familiar with the franchise.”

Get inside the mind of Grimlock in this Transformers: Fall of Cybertron trailer
“Me, Grimlock, no bozo. Me king!”
The second coolest Transformer ever, Grimlock, is going to play a big part in this August’s Transformers: Fall of Cybertron. The Dinobots made quite an impression on kids back in the day due to their butt-kicking prowess, and that’s definitely on display in the new game trailer above. Also, the High Moon Studios dev that’s narrating the action loves to say “space T-rex” and how can you not love that?
Oh, for the record, the coolest Transformer ever is Optimus Prime, with Soundwave rounding out the top three. These are official rankings people!
Transformers: Fall of Cybertron will be released for the PS3 and Xbox 360 on August 28.

Nintendo Download: Kid Icarus 3D, I Must Run!

Welcome to today’s Nintendo Download where we tell you all about a “3D Classics” version of Kid Icarus on the 3DS eShop and the running-platformer I Must Run! on the DSi Shop.
OK, done. Now let Nintendo tell you about them again, in a bit more detail:
3D Classics: Kid Icarus (3DS eShop) – Relive Pit’s first adventure in 3D Classics: Kid Icarus as you venture from the depths of the underworld up to the heights of the sky palace. Play in 2D or 3D as you face down the evil goddess Medusa.
I Must Run! (DSiWare) – I Must Run! is a skill-based action running game. Jump across gaps between jail buildings, run through a subway station, and test your reflexes in a deadly dash over construction site cranes.
Bethesda: Prey 2 isn’t cancelled, but it’s been delayed
Last year, the Internet rumor mill claimed that Doom 4 was cancelled. Bethesda responded by claiming the game had never been announced.
Thankfully, they were able to handle the rumors of Prey 2‘s cancellation a bit better. But the company still ended up announcing that the alien shooter sequel has been delayed into 2013 (or possibly beyond).
Tracey Thompson, Bethesda’s Director of Global PR, had this to say about the delay:
Developmentof Prey 2 has not been cancelled but the game will not be released in 2012 as planned. The delay is due to the fact that game development has not progressed satisfactorily this past year, and the game does not currently meet our quality standards. Prey 2 has shown great promise and we regret disappointing our fans. We have made a substantial investment in game development to deliver the experience fans want. We are determined only to release the AAA game that fans rightfully expect, and are unwilling to compromise our quality standards to meet a release schedule.
A new release window wasn’t announced. I wouldn’t worry too much about this latest delay as they’re nothing new for the Prey series. It actually took 11 years of off-and-on development before Prey was released for the PC and Xbox 360 back in 2006.
Kratos returns in God of War prequel next year
First leaked by Amazon late last night, Sony has now officially announced God of War: Ascension for the PS3. The retail giant may have spoiled their surprise, but the publisher still had a bit to say about Kratos next adventure. Since he “died” at the end of God of War III, Ascension is being developed as a prequel to Kratos story, and it’s once again being developed by Sony Santa Monica. The Amazon product page also points towards a 2013 release. Finally, Sony released the awesome teaser trailer above.
“Tease” appears to be the operative word as Sony also confirmed that we won’t learn anything else about the game until Monday, April 30 at 11 AM (Eastern Time). If you’re not stuck at work or in class at that time, you’ll want to point your browser at the PlayStation Facebook page to watch a live streaming event with the game’s director, Todd Papy.
He’ll be answering your questions during the stream and you can begin bombarding him now on Twitter by tweeting @PlayStation. And be sure to tag it with the hashtag #godofwarascension.
