Anarchy Reigns moves the fight to July 2012

Sega has announced that Anarchy Reigns, the next game from new Metal Gear Rising developer Platinum Games, has been delayed again. The brawler, which was originally tagged with a Fall 2011 release date, will now be released for the PS3 and Xbox 360 in July 2012.

But it sounds like the cause of the delay is to make the game bigger and anarchy-er:

“Anarchy Reigns brings a new take to the brawler genre and we have decided to take a little more time to deliver the full knockout punch. I can’t reveal much now, but it has something to do with scale. Let’s just say traditional one-on-one or two versus two fighters will be a thing of the past…,” said Gary Knight, Senior Vice President of Marketing at Sega West.

3DS Ambassador GBA games now available

As promised, Nintendo has made good on the second half of their 3DS Ambassador program. Ten Game Boy Advance games are now available to download for those who purchased their 3DS system before the price drop. And, according to Nintendo, these games will never be made available to non-Ambassador 3DS owners.

And if you believe that, I’ve got a Cheese Bridge to sell you.

Here’s the complete list of GBA games you can download today:

  • F-Zero: Maximum Velocity
  • Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones
  • Kirby & The Amazing Mirror
  • The Legend of Zelda: Minish Cap
  • Mario Kart: Super Circuit
  • Mario vs. Donkey Kong
  • Metroid Fusion
  • Super Mario Advance 3: Yoshi’s Island
  • Wario Land 4
  • WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgames

Along with instructions on how to download them (shamelessly stolen from when the NES Ambassador titles were released):

1. Turn on your 3DS. (I tried it when it was off, it doesn’t work.)
2. Head to the eShop.
3. Scroll all the way to the left side, to the “Settings/Other” pane.
4. Click on “Your Downloads” – (the third brick down.)
5. Scroll past all the other titles you’ve purchased (if any, you cheapskates!)
6. You’ll find the free Ambassador titles waiting for you! (You have to click “Re-Download” to obtain them.)

Nintendo Download: Blaster Master Enemy Below, Carmen Sandiego Math, more

Do it, Rockapella! (Sorry, it helps if you were ten years old in 1991 to understand that reference).

For those who got the joke, you already know Nintendo has announced that the world’s greatest thief will be making her way to the WiiWare service today in Carmen Sandiego Adventures in Math: The Lady Liberty Larceny. Also of note this week is Blaster Master: Enemy Below, a Game Boy Color sequel to the NES classic that is now downloadable from the 3DS eShop.

The rest of this week’s Nintendo Download includes:

Blaster Master: Enemy Below (3DS eShop) – Using the strong weapons and high jumping power of his legendary battle vehicle, Jason must explore a subterranean region where a sinister life form resides.

Elite Forces: Unit 77 (DSiWare) – Drive armored trucks and tanks, defuse mines, locate explosives and rescue hostages. Gather your forces into a crack squad or control a single game character based on the strategic requirements.

WordJong Arcade (DSiWare) – WordJong mixes Mahjong solitaire and word play. Use letter tiles to create words. WordJong Arcade has 2 new ways to play, Arcade and Yin-Yang.

Just Sing! Christmas Volume 3 (DSiWare) – Merry Christmas Karaoke! Storm onto the Christmas stage and celebrate the festival of festivals with two classic Christmas songs: “O Christmas Tree (O Tannenbaum)” and “Joy to the World”!

Carmen Sandiego Adventures in Math: The Lady Liberty Larceny (WiiWare) – The Statue of Liberty has vanished! The Chief wants ACME’s best agent on the case. Carmen Sandiego is back, and only you can foil her V.I.L.E. plans.

Lollipop Chainsaw boxart gets detention for being naughty

Attention class, Suda 51 got an A+ in Fan Service.

WB Games and developer Grasshopper Manufacture have unveiled the official box art for Lollipop Chainsaw, their 2012 mashup of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and every girly-girl stereotype that Buffy spent seven seasons satirizing. If heroine Juliet Starling were forced to spend her detention writing an essay about all her bad deeds, it would take her a long time:

I WILL NOT let my boyfriend cower behind my miniskirt.
I WILL NOT stuff a zombie into my locker.
I WILL NOT run through the halls with my chainsaw.
I WILL NOT wear an ultra-revealing top with a lance pointing at my cleavage.
AND I WILL NOT suck on a lollipop in class.

Of course, who am I kidding? Lollipop Chainsaw will probably be the biggest game of 2012.

Sorcery to cast spells on the PS3 next Spring

Sorcery, the PlayStation Move-powered spellcasting adventure, finally has a release date. After last being seen at E3 2010, Sony has used their messenger owls to let us know the game will be released in Spring 2012.

The PlayStation.Blog (how did they manage to get such a huge scoop?) got a behind-the-scenes look at Sorcery and found out just what is taking so long and why the “Firenado” is the greatest thing to exist in… well, ever.

Ever.

Club Nintendo now giving away game downloads

As expected, Nintendo has relaunched their Club Nintendo rewards program, which now includes a variety of free games!

Starting today, Club Nintendo members can exchange 100 Coins for Super Mario Kart (Virtual Console), 150 Coins for Fluidity (WiiWare), 100 Coins for 3D Classics: Xevious (3DS eShop), and 150 Coins for Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Minis March Again! (3DS eShop). Considering the fact that these games are priced between $6 and $12, that’s a pretty good deal. A new selection of games will be chosen in early January, so redeem your Coins today if one of these four titles tickles your fancy.

These games will be joined by other new Club Nintendo rewards like Nintendo-themed notebooks, pen cases, and a set of limited-edition posters honoring the 25th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda.

Pit battles the monsters of mythology in new Kid Icarus: Uprising trailer

Following the announcement of Kid Icarus: Uprising‘s release date, Nintendo has released a new trailer that is just packed with mythological monsters. Watch as the angel battles Cerberus, Medusa, Hades, the Hydra, an evil clone known as Dark Pit, and those flying eyeballs from the original NES game. This trailer certainly hits the bullseye.

Kid Icarus: Uprising will be available exclusively for the 3DS on March 23.

XBLA Today: Sonic CD, Joe Danger

Sonic CD, considered by many to be the last great game in the Sonic the Hedgehog series, is now available to download from the Xbox Live Arcade. Best of all, it’s been priced at 400 Microsoft Points ($5), which is a great deal for a great game.

Also available this week is Joe Danger: Special Edition, which carries a slightly higher price of 1200 MS Points ($15). Joe Danger lives up to his name as “the world’s most determined stuntman” by doing his best Evel Knievel impression. That includes jumping over buses and shark-filled tanks (although I think that was Captain Lance Murdock). But the most amazing thing about Joe Danger is that it was partially funded by Sony. Talk about your dangerous deeds!

More information on both games can be found after the break. (more…)
