Weekly Warp-Up: VGA 2011 Trailerpalooza

No, that’s not a typo. Welcome to the Weekly Warp-Up, your weekly wrap-up of the biggest and the best articles posted at Warp Zoned this week…

Get Warp Zoned!
The Spike TV Video Game Awards were held in Los Angeles last night and, once again, the world premiere trailers have overshadowed the actual awards. That said, the Warp Zoned staff is totally on board with the selection of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim as Game of the Year. But just look at all the amazing stuff we have to look forward to in 2012 and beyond:

Ring-a-ding-ding, baby. We also explored the meaning of friendship (and video games) in Saving Benny: The Bromance of Fallout: New Vegas. How did you treat your best buddy in the Wasteland?

Hit the jump for the rest of the Weekly Warp-Up. (more…)

Spike TV VGAs: Mass Effect 3 is the most anticipated trailer of the show

Mass Effect 3 won the viewer vote for Most Anticipated Game at the Spike TV Video Game Awards and after viewing this new gameplay trailer, it’s easy to see why. In fact, I think Commander Shepard says it best at the 0:24 mark: “Holy shit!”

Mass Effect 3 will be available for the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 on March 6.

Spike TV VGAs: Tekken Tag 2 trailer double teams your browser

If I knew more about the Tekken series, I could probably tell you who the silhouettes belonged to in the Tekken Tag Tournament 2 trailer that debuted during the Spike TV Video Game Awards. But I can’t. I’m sorry.

However, I can tell you that Namco Bandai plans to release Tekken Tag Tournament 2 in late 2012. That’s something I guess.

Spike TV VGAs: BioWare brings back Command & Conquer Generals

Earlier this year, EA announced that Victory Games would resurrect the Command & Conquer series after the poorly-reviewed Command & Conquer 4: Tiberian Twilight. In the interim, the studio was renamed BioWare Victory, so it looks like BioWare will be the studio to resurrect the Command & Conquer franchise. Except, not really, as the Mass Effect/Dragon Age developer has nothing to do with BioWare Victory. They just co-opted the name.

And resurrect it they will with the oft-requested Command & Conquer: Generals 2. Scheduled for a 2013 release, Generals 2 is still in the very early stages as the Spike TV Video Game Awards trailer is only 30 seconds long (and most of that time is taken up by logos).

But you can see it for yourself after the break. (more…)

Spike TV VGAs: Hitman Absolution trailer is absolutely awesome

Agent 47 continues his stealthy march back to the top tier of video game assassins thanks a new trailer that debuted during this year’s Spike TV Video Game Awards. He’s even got a new nickname to help with the transition: “The Original Assassin.”

Nicknames seem a little uncouth for Agent 47, don’t they?

Hitman: Absolution will be released for the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 in 2012. You can check out the full trailer after the break. (more…)

Spike TV VGAs: Watch this Rainbow 6: Patriots trailer or millions of people will die

The latest Tom Clancy game from Ubisoft, Tom Clancy’s Rainbow 6: Patriots, continues to give me “24” flashbacks. And the new trailer that debuted last night at the Spike TV Video Game Awards isn’t doing anything to change my mind. Jack Bauer would have this mess cleaned up in an hour and still have time to save Elisha Cuthbert from a cougar trap.

Tom Clancy’s Rainbow 6: Patriots will be released for the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 sometime in 2013. That means there’s at least 556,188 minutes on your terrorist-style LED timer before the game will be available in stores.

Spike TV VGAs: Platinum Games takes their Revengeance on Metal Gear Rising

Promising “Revenge With A Vengeance,” Metal Gear Solid: Rising was introduced to the world at last night’s Spike TV Video Game Awards as a brand new game. Now known as Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, development of Rising has been handed off to Platinum Games, the team behind Bayonetta. In addition to a new developer and one of the dumbest subtitles ever, Metal Gear Rising has a new storyline as well. Instead of taking place between Sons of Liberty and Guns of the Patriots, it’ll take place entirely after the events of MGS4.

Revenge With A Vengeance? I think it’s possible that Hideo Kojima has finally lost it. That doesn’t even make any sense. Well, I guess it makes about as much sense as “Lightning Bolt Action.”

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance will be released in 2012 for the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.

Spike TV VGAs: BioShock Infinite trailer is flying high

Rocket launchers mounted on flaming zeppelins… steampunk Frankenstein’s monsters… buxom women with rifles… winged Big Daddies… “Will the Circle Be Unbroken?”… the flying city of Columbia has everything!

Experience it all for yourself after the break with the new BioShock Infinite trailer that made its debut at the Spike TV Video Game Awards last night. (more…)
