I’m thankful for Metroid II’s release on the 3DS eShop today
It may be hard to believe, but once upon a time, Nintendo didn’t consider Samus Aran one of their premier characters. After Metroid‘s release on the NES back in 1987, it took a full four years before Metroid II: Return of Samus was released. Another mark of the franchise’s second-class status was that it wasn’t released for Nintendo’s cutting edge Super NES or the aging NES, but as a black-and-white Game Boy game.
However, Return of Samus contained all the great Metroid action that fans of the NES original loved and it paved the way for Super Metroid, the Prime series, and the all the rest of Samus’s adventures. And now you can download it on your 3DS.
Here’s what else Nintendo has planned for this week’s Nintendo Download:
Battle of the Elements (DSiWare) – Get ready to travel around the world facing the most powerful characters in intense battles of elements, where you’ll need to think as fast as you move your stylus in order to earn the victory.
Come On! Heroes (DSiWare) – This action game tests your reactions. The “Lovely Heiress” is being held for ransom. Mr. King announces that anyone who brings back his daughter will receive a great reward.
Big Bass Arcade (WiiWare) – Big Bass Arcade is loaded with fishing action. Catch a boatload of fish and take a shot at the World Record Bass. Compete in Challenges and Tournaments, or Free Fish any lake at your own pace.
More information on all of these titles can be found within the Nintendo Download Weekly Newsletter.

Test Drive: Ferrari on track for a March 2012 release in Europe
Publisher Bigben Interactive has announced they’ve signed a deal to distribute Test Drive: Ferrari on the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360. Quick show of hands, did anyone even realize Test Drive: Ferrari was in development?
Details are a bit sparse on the 20th game in the long-running racing franchise, but we do know that it’ll be released in European territories (minus the United Kingdom) on March 30, 2012.
It’s currently unknown if Atari will pick up Test Drive: Ferrari for a North American release, but after the success of Test Drive Unlimited and Test Drive Unlimited 2, I’d say it’s pretty likely.

New Mario Kart 7 trailer is comfort food for Thanksgiving Eve
The latest Mario Kart 7 trailer looks like every other trailer released for the game so far. But you know what? That doesn’t bother me. The racers may be familiar, but there are also new ones like Shy Guy and Metal Mario). The tracks may be familiar, but 16 new tracks will also be available. And the items may be familiar, but you’ll also be able to bash opponents with Donkey Kong’s Hammer.
Isn’t that comforting familiarity (and awesome newness) exactly what you want out of Mario Kart? Mario Kart 7 will be released exclusively for the 3DS on December 4.

Today on PS Store: Final Fantasy V, Corpse Party, and more
Instead of spending this week eating turkey and shopping for bargains, you could spend it in front of your TV engrossed in one of the greatest RPGs of all time. And thanks to Square Enix, you can do it from the comfort of your PS3 as the publisher has added Final Fantasy V to the PlayStation Store.
PSP gamers will get a chance to download Corpse Party, a supernatural adventure mystery involving murdered elementary school kids and “dozens of grisly, uncensored death scenes.” Never sleep again kids! NBA 2K12 will also be available to download for the PSP.
If turn-based RPGs or watching nine-year-olds get slaughtered isn’t your thing, a quartet of additional games have been added to the PlayStation Store:
PSN Games
Who Wants To Be A Millionaire ($9.99)
The final answer is “multiplayer fun!” with Millionaire on your PlayStation 3 system. Try to win $1,000,000 by correctly answering multiple choice questions, each worth increasing amounts of money. Seek help for stumper questions via “Ask the Audience”, “Double Dip” or “Phone a Friend” lifelines.
Learning With the Pooyoos – Episode 2 ($8.99)
With the PooYoos, a merry band of adorable baby animals, children will have fun while learning the basics for his or her development: numbers, letters, space, colors and more.
PS3 Full Games
Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One $59.99
Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One introduces 4-player co-op to the franchise for the first time. Play together online or offline as the greatest heroes (and villain) in the universe form the unlikeliest team in this humorous adventure blending high-powered gameplay with astounding cinematic visuals.
Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare ($19.99)
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare arms gamers with an arsenal of advanced and powerful modern day firepower and transports them to the most treacherous hotspots around the globe to take on a rogue enemy group threatening the world.
Hit up the PlayStation.Blog to learn more about these games, a huge Fall Sale, and all of this week’s new game add-ons.

MotorStorm RC shrinks down for PSN, Vita release in 2012
Evolution Studios’ MotorStorm series has been a big hit with PlayStation 3 and PSP owners since the original MotorStorm was released back in 2006. And each entry in the series has been bigger than the last. But with the next MotorStorm game, the developers plan to go small. The team at Evolution looked to the recent Scrap Metal and, of course, R.C. Pro Am, and found the inspiration for MotorStorm RC, a tiny top-down take on the racing franchise.
The best part? MotorStorm RC will be available as a PlayStation Network and Vita download, and if you buy one, you get both!
According to Sony, MotorStorm RC will recereate “visually stunning renditions of all four MotorStorm worlds (and eight of their vehicle classes).” The game will also include 16 tracks, online play, and four-player local splitscreen.
MotorStorm RC is currently scheduled to be released sometime in the Spring, “on or closely after [the] Vita launch.”

Your wallet feels the pain thanks to this Max Payne 3 Special Edition
Max Payne 3 is really coming. After years of false starts and delays, the game is finally on track for a March 2012 release. And Rockstar plans to celebrate with the release of a massive Special Edition of the game that must be pre-ordered before January 15, 2012.
Retailing for $99.99, the Max Payne 3 Special Edition will include a copy of the game and a ton of other cool content. I think my favorite piece of included swag is the bullet keychain with a screw-off back.
Even if bullet keychains aren’t your thing, there’s sure to be something you find cool within this package. Here’s what else you’ll find in the Max Payne 3 Special Edition:
- 10″ tall Collectible Max Payne Statue created in a collaboration between TriForce and Rockstar Games.
- Series of game-inspired Original Still Life Art Prints that depict some of Max Payne’s inner demons and vices.
- Copper and brass-plated iron, bullet-shaped Bullet Keychain featuring a screw-off back.
- Classic Multiplayer Character Pack of eight playable multiplayer characters for Max Payne 3 multiplayer, including fan favorites from the original Max Payne and Max Payne 2 like Max in his Max Payne 2 outfit, Mona Sax and Vladimir Lem.
- Disorderly Conduct Multiplayer Weapons Pack for Max Payne 3 multiplayer that includes the Hammerhead Auto Shotgun, G9 Grenade Launcher and Molotov cocktail.
- Max Payne 3 Official Soundtrack featuring the game’s instrumental score.
