MLB 12: The Show announced for PS3, Vita with Adrian Gonzalez on the cover

2K Sports took their licks with a Major League Baseball 2K12 announcement earlier this week and now Sony gets their turn at the plate with a MLB 12: The Show announcement. The consolemaker’s annual baseball franchise will be coming to the PS3 and Vita on March 6, 2012.

MLB 12: The Show for the PS3 will feature Move functionality as well as a 3D display option. The Vita version will sport “all of the core gameplay features found in the PS3 version providing a big league experience that players can take with them on road, anytime, anywhere.” Boston Red Sox first baseman Adrian Gonzalez will appear on the cover of both versions.

“I feel very humbled to be chosen for the cover of MLB 12 The Show,” said Gonzalez. “I think most sports fans would agree it’s a dream come true to be immortalized as the cover athlete for a video game so I jumped at the chance to work with a leading franchise like The Show. It’s truly a great honor.”

Joe Mauer of the Minnesota Twins was the most recent cover athlete for the series, appearing on the box of both MLB 11: The Show and MLB 10: The Show.

Jak & Daxter Collection confirmed by Sony

Sony seems determined to bring every classic PS2 game to the PS3 in a shiny, new HD edition. And the latest franchise to get the call is Naughty Dog’s platforming opus, Jak & Daxter.

After appearing on the website of the Unterhaltungssoftware Selbstkontrolle (Germany’s answer to the ESRB), Sony told IGN that the Jak & Daxter Collection is in development for the PS3 and that they’ll “have more news to share shortly.”

Six games in the Jak & Daxter series have been released for the PS2 and PSP since Jak & Daxter: The Precursor Legacy first appeared on the PS2 in 2001. The game’s European title is Jak & Daxter Trilogy, so I think that gives us a pretty good idea which games will be inlcuded in the Jak & Daxter Collection.

The Simpsons Arcade Game rated by Australian ratings board

Have a cow man! The Simpsons Arcade Game is finally (it was originally released in 1991!) getting a proper port on modern day consoles. The announcement was leaked by a recent rating on the Australian Classification Board website, which also reveals a few choice bits of information.

The Simpsons Arcade Game will be published by Konami (who also created the original arcade game) and developed by Backbone Entertainment (who also ported Konami’s classic X-Men Arcade). A PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade release wasn’t confirmed, but it seems likely. The rating certificate also mentions online play.

Since the show’s debut in 1989, more than 20 “Simpsons” video games have been released, but the arcade game has never received a proper port. A PC version was released in the early 90s, but it just wasn’t the same (remember when PCs were less capable than consoles?).

I can’t wait to be an underachiever (and proud of it) again.
