Nintendo Download: 1950s Lawn Mower Kids, Balloon Kid, more

It’s Thursday, so Nintendo has updated their trio of download services with a new smattering of games that are all about the kids:

1950s Lawn Mower Kids (DSiWare) – Help Tom, Nancy and Tim mow lawns among UFOs, people, dogs, ducks, cats and birds. Avoid mowing down flower beds or crashing into tables and angry animals.

Balloon Kid (3DS eShop) – Save your brother from peril by floating through eight different stages as you follow his trail of balloons. Test your piloting skills to avoid enemies, or let go of your balloons to face enemies on the ground.

Gnomz (WiiWare) – Welcome to the world of Gnomz, an exciting new arcade fighter for the WiiWare service. Battle in 25 action-packed arenas and discover magical power-ups, flying elephants, rainbows and glowing reindeer.

House M.D. – Episode 4: Crashed (DSiWare) – Dr. Gregory House and his elite diagnostic team race against the clock to unravel a new medical mystery. An aging reality- TV host seems to care less about his own health than his fame and reputation. Track down the correct diagnosis by interviewing and examining the patient, running lab tests, searching locations and even performing surgery.

More information on all of these games can be found within the Nintendo Download weekly newsletter.

Grand Theft Auto V: The Official Announcement

After yesterday’s epic trailer reveal, Rockstar is ready to officially announce Grand Theft Auto V. But if you’re looking for any new information, keep looking, because the press release was devoid of anything important such as what platforms GTA5 is in development for, a release date, or even when we might hear some actual news about the game.

What we did get was a lot of hype-building, including the claim that Grand Theft Auto V will be “the largest and most ambitious game Rockstar has yet created.” And in case you missed all the financial strife evident in the trailer, Rockstar confirmed that GTA5 “focuses on the pursuit of the almighty dollar in a re-imagined, present-day Southern California.”

The press release only mentioned the city (and surrounding countryside) of Los Santos, so trips to San Fierro (San Francisco) and Las Venturas (Las Vegas) are on hold for now. Perhaps Rockstar is waiting to announce their inclusion in the game or perhaps they’re being saved for a future expansion.

Oh, the developer also confirmed that the game will have a multiplayer mode, but after Grand Theft Auto IV‘s well-received multiplayer mode, that was a given.

We might be waiting a long time for any real info about Grand Theft Auto V, might as well watch the trailer again.

Grand Theft Auto V trailer reveals a return to San Andreas

After a week of waiting, the Grand Theft Auto V trailer is here! We don’t know everything but, thanks to these first moving pictures courtesy of Rockstar (if you’d rather not be spoiled, hit the jump to watch the trailer for yourself), we now know…

That Grand Theft Auto V will be set in San Andreas and appears to take place in modern day (at least, the cars look spiffy and modern). It stars a father (who sounds suspiciously like GTA veteran voice actor Ray Liotta) who has moved to San Andreas to make a better life for his family. But while there he gets involved in the guns and the armed robbery that the series is known for.

Developer Rockstar North is still keeping most of Grand Theft Auto V’s secrets to themselves as we didn’t get a release date or even confirmation the game is coming to the PS3 and Xbox 360. Is that confirmation of a Wii U version? Only time will tell.

You can find the full trailer after the break. (more…)

Get Jurassic Park: The Game for free if you sign up for PS Plus between 11/1 and 11/8

Sony has spared no expense when it comes to the free games available to PlayStation Plus subscribers, but the latest deal is bigger than a hungry T. Rex.

That’s right, anyone who signs up for a 12-month PlayStation Plus membership between November 1 and November 8 will receive a free download of Jurassic Park: The Game. The best part is that Telltale’s retelling of the events of the first movie (from the perspective of an InGen team searching for the dead Dennis Nedry) will be yours to keep even if you let your PS Plus subscription lapse.

So if this deal sounds too good to be true, hold on to your butts and sign up for PlayStation Plus today. You’ll also be in line to receive November’s free game, Hydrophobia Prophecy.

Hydrophobia Prophecy, DC Universe Online Free-To-Play added to PS Store

Did you pick up Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception today? If not, Sony has pushed another massive update onto the PlayStation Store and there’s surely something you find interesting.

This week’s big new release is Hydrophobia Prophecy, Dark Energy Digital’s water-logged survival horror game. It’s already made the rounds of the Xbox Live Arcade and Steam (in multiple different versions) and the “Prophecy” update is said to be the most complete version of the game yet. It’s available to download for $9.99 or, if you’re a PlayStation Plus subscriber, it’s free. Good deal!

This week also marks the beginning of DC Universe Online‘s Free-To-Play stage. The MMO is now, you guessed it, free to download and play. However, paid expansions will still be released including today’s “Fight For the Light” DLC pack.

Also available this week is Pinballistik, a pinball sim; Max & the Magic Marker: Gold Edition, an award-winning puzzle platformer; and a downloadable version of crossover fighting game Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe. Finally, a trio of new PS2 Classics were added to the store including space shooter Raiden III, half-vampire action game BloodRayne, and farming sim Harvest Moon: Save the Homeland.

PSP owners will be able to download one new game this week as well, a dungeon-crawling RPG from Atlus titled Fate: Extra. Apparently it’s based on a somewhat popular visual novel/anime.

More details on all of this week’s new releases and game add-ons can be found at the PlayStation.Blog.

Gears of War 3 Horde Command DLC delayed

If you woke up early this morning looking to download the Horde Command Pack for Gears of War 3, you’re obviously aware that it’s not yet available. A quick note on the Epic Games Community Forum has confirmed the DLC has been delayed due to a “technical issue.” A new release date was not announced, but Epic is working “around the clock to resolve this issue.”

Here’s the full statement from Epic:

The scheduled Horde Command Pack release for Gears of War 3 is temporarily delayed due to a technical issue. We apologize to those of you who are anxiously awaiting to play. We know this is disappointing news as we’ve seen a lot of posts today showing excitement for this content. We have folks working around the clock to resolve this issue ASAP so you can all play and enjoy the Command Pack.

The RAAM’s Shadow campaign expansion DLC is still on track for its December 13 release.
