Rumor: Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 won’t include a single-player campaign

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 might look a little different when it launches this Fall… if you believe a recent rumor reported by Polygon. According to several unnamed sources “with knowledge of the project’s status,” the next entry in the shooter series will ship without a single-player campaign for the first time in its history.

Instead, Activision and Treyarch will release a Call of Duty game that focuses solely on competitive multiplayer maps and the cooperative Zombies Mode:

The sources, who asked for anonymity, said that as Black Ops 4’s release date approached, it became evident that development on the single-player campaign wouldn’t be completed. One source said Treyarch has since focused Black Ops 4’s development on expanding multiplayer and the series’ popular Zombies mode. The source described an emphasis on cooperative modes as a potential stand-in for the typical single-player campaign experience.

Representatives from Activision refused to comment on the rumor, instead asking fans to stay tuned for the game’s “Community Reveal Event” on Thursday, May 17. Further details about Black Ops 4 are expected to be unveiled at this year’s E3 Expo. If the game is missing a single-player campaign, we’ll likely know by then.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 will be released for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One on October 12.

DC Comics will publish an Injustice Vs He-Man crossover in July

With an Evil Superman and a Heroic Harley Quinn, the Injustice universe has already traveled pretty far off the beaten path for readers used to the mainstream DC Universe. But the comics publisher wants to make it even nuttier this Summer, as they’ve announced plans to publish an Injustice Vs He-Man and the Masters of the Universe miniseries.

YOU… HAVE… THE… POWER… to read a plot description of Injustice Vs He-Man and the Masters of the Universe right here:

Believing He-Man and the Masters of the Universe defeated, a robotic impostor has seized control of Eternia… but not for long! After freeing his kingdom from this strongman’s rule, Prince Adam learns not everyone is pleased to see the pretender deposed… but Adam knows the value of freedom. So when heroes from another dimension ask his aid in deposing a super-hero turned dictator, he agrees. Teaming up with Batman against the Superman of the Injustice Universe, He-Man and his new allies face dangerous and familiar enemies in a battle where no world is safe!

Injustice Vs He-Man and the Masters of the Universe will be written by Tim Seeley, with art by Freddie E. Williams II. Hopefully the two of them will be able to explain why Prince Adam’s heroic alter ego looks so mopey on the cover.

M. Bison clone Falke will be available to download in Street Fighter V on April 24

Send in the clones…

Capcom has announced Falke, yet another clone of M. Bison, will be the next downloadable character added to Street Fighter V. Falke will be available to download on April 24, and like Gambit, she has “the unique ability to infuse Psycho Power into objects and release it through them”:

Character Overview
Falke was built to be an alternative clone for M. Bison. She was heavily experimented on by Shadaloo and was forced to train day in, day out to achieve perfection. Falke has the unique ability to infuse Psycho Power into objects and release it through them, mainly through her staff, which she named Harmony. Years of harsh training went by, causing Falke to spiral deep into despair, wishing for it all to end. Finally, Ed came to her rescue and they both were able to escape Shadaloo. Now, the two have a sibling-like bond and are searching for others like them in need of help.

Be sure to check out the trailer embedded above for your first look at Falke, and also head over to the Capcom-Unity blog for a ridiculously in-depth look at her fighting style:

V-Skill: Psycho Trombe
Falke extends one arm and spins her staff in front of her. Psycho Trombe on its own can be cancelled into by a variety of normal moves and can also be used to absorb projectiles.

V-Trigger I: Staerken
In this two-block V-Trigger, Falke powers up her ability to infuse and release Psycho Power from her staff and will allow her to use additional versions of her special moves without needing to charge up in advance.

Pressing HP+HK again during this V-Trigger will cause Falke to use Psycho Shrot, a powered up version of Psycho Kugel that emits three bullets and travels further. Pressing down and HP+HK will see Falke using Psycho Panzer, a powered up version of Psycho Kanonen that deals more damage. Finally, pressing HP+HK in the air will cause Falke to use Psycho Jaeger, a stronger Psycho Feder that can ricochet off the ground. Psycho Shrot and Kanonen can be cancelled into each other and can leave the opponent prone to a Critical Art.

V-Trigger II: Psycho Angriff
In this three-block V-Trigger, Falke increases her ability to utilize her staff in various ways. Upon activation, Falke will immediately twirl around hitting the opponent into the air, which she then follows up with a surge of Psycho Power.

Pressing HP+HK during this V-Trigger will result in Falke using Psycho Sturm, a sweeping hit with her staff that can be cancelled into to extend combos. Pressing down and HP+HK will see Falke using Psycho Klinge, where she jumps diagonally into the air before slamming her staff down on the opponent and can be followed up with normal moves. Falke’s V-Skill, Psycho Trombe, can also reflect projectiles during Psycho Angriff.

Finally, each of the new moves Falke gains during Psycho Angriff can be cancelled into from special moves like Psycho Schneide and Katapult, increasing her combo potential and damage.

Critical Art: Psycho Fluegel
With a Psycho Power-charged staff, Falke launches opponents into the air. She then pole vaults up to meet her opponent, whacks them sideways with her staff, then slams them down with a final overhead swing.

Falke will be available to download in Street Fighter V individually for $5.99, or as part of the Season 3 Character Pass. Players who’ve accumulated enough playtime can also unlock the character for free using 100,000 Fight Money, Street Fighter V’s in-game currency.

Sega will re-release five classic games on Switch eShop this Summer

Sega has announced plans to re-release several of their classic games on the Nintendo Switch beginning this Summer under the “Sega Ages” banner.

Sega has big plans for the Sega Ages initiative, and they’ll kick things off with an initial slate of five games from their classic catalog. Developed by M2, the games available to download this Summer include Phantasy Star (Master System), Alex Kidd in Miracle World (Master System), Thunder Force IV (Genesis), Sonic the Hedgehog (Genesis), and Gain Ground (Arcade).

According to Sega, games selected for the Sega Ages initiative will “stay true to their original forms” while also including “new features that bring a refreshing twist to these classic titles’ gameplay.” And if this first batch of Sega Ages titles does well, we can likely expect more retro re-releases from the publisher to appear on the Switch eShop.

New Kingdom Hearts III trailer shows off LCD-inspired “Classic Kingdom”

Before the Switch’s combination of a portable and handheld… before the DS’s tounchscreen… even before the pea-green screen of a Game Boy… there were LCD handheld games. Popularized in the 70s and 80s, these early handheld devices offered crude graphics and even cruder gameplay mechanics.

And they’re coming back in Kingdom Hearts III… sort of. A new trailer for the upcoming action RPG introduces players to the “Classic Kingdom,” a series of minigames within Kingdom Hearts III inspired by the LCD handhelds of old.

Kingdom Hearts III is expected to be released for the PS4 and Xbox One sometime this year.

New Retail Releases: God of War, Nintendo Labo, Yakuza 6, More

Kratos lives again as Sony Santa Monica brings God of War to the PS4 for the first time this week. The reboot promises a new beginning for the Ghost of Sparta, as Kratos (and his son) are transported to the harsh realm of Midgard. In his quest to earn the respect of his son, Kratos will be forced to battle the gods and monsters from the Norse pantheon.

Nintendo Switch owners will be able to take part in a different kind of epic battle this week with the release of the Nintendo Labo: Robot Kit. Using the included cardboard cutouts, and combined with the Joy-Con’s motion controls, players will be able to build their own robot suit and fight it out with other mechanized monsters.

On the other side of the spectrum, Switch owners will be able to flex their creative muscles with the Nintendo Labo: Variety Kit. Six cardboard contraptions are featured in the Variety Kit, including RC Cars, a Fishing Rod, a House, a Motorbike, and a Piano.

Also available this week will be the swan song for Kazuma Kiryu, as Sega brings Yakuza 6: The Song of Life to the PS4. And Klei Entertainment will launch the Don’t Starve: Mega Pack for the PS4 and Xbox One. The Mega Pack includes Don’t Starve, as well as the Reign of Giants and Shipwrecked expansions, and the Don’t Starve Together standalone spinoff.

Finally, Natsume will release Wild Guns Reloaded, a “fast-paced gallery style shooter mixing the Wild West with steampunk,” for the Switch.

That’s all for now, but we’ll be back later this week with a look at all the new additions to the PlayStation Store, Xbox Games Store, and Nintendo eShop.
