First image from Call of Duty 2014 revealed
During their Game Developer Conference panel last month, developers from Sledgehammer Games gave the attending audience a quick glimpse at an “in-game character image” from the currently unannounced Call of Duty 2014. Today, IGN revealed that image, an extreme close-up of a soldier, to the world.
Call of Duty 2014 is in development for next-generation platforms (PC, PS4, and Xbox One) and will be released this Fall. A current-generation version of the game (for the PS3, Xbox 360, and Wii U) is also expected, but remains unconfirmed as of now. An official announcement of the game will likely occur next month.
Nintendo and Tecmo Koei team up for Wii U-exclusive Fatal Frame game

With the rights to the Fatal Frame franchise now jointly owned by Nintendo and Tecmo Koei, the two companies have decided to join forces to produce a new game in the series exclusively for the Wii U. The currently untitled Fatal Frame 5 was announced in Famitsu (thanks Gematsu) along with a slew of tie-in projects.
In addition to the game, Nintendo and Tecmo Koei will team up with Kadokawa Corporation to create a live-action film based on the game series. The movie, which will star Ayami Nakajo and Aoi Morikawa, will be released this Fall. But first, a Fatal Frame novel written by Eiji Otsuka will be released in August. Finally, a comic series, written by Tadashi Agi, is also in the works with an unannounced release date.
Sadly, Fatal Frame 5 and all of its spinoffs are slated to be released only in Japan. Nintendo and Tecmo Koei haven’t released a Fatal Frame game in America in nearly a decade and there currently appear to be no plan to bring the game or the tie-in material across the Pacific. But with Nintendo’s new found desire to broaden the Wii U’s appeal (just look at Bayonetta 2), perhaps the time is right for a Fatal Frame revival in America.

Dragon Age: Inquisition will launch on October 7
BioWare has kept Dragon Age: Inquisition shrouded in secrecy almost since the day it was announced. But a brand new gameplay trailer, released this morning, has given gamers an extensive look at “The Inquisitor” and his quest to stop a band of demons from terrorizing the land of Thedas. It’s likely that BioWare (and publisher EA Games) will soon ramp up their promotion of Inquisition as they also revealed that the game will be released for the PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One on October 7.
That date will be a crowded one for fans of sword and sorcery epics as WB Games plans to release Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor on October 7 as well.

Microsoft and Sony trademark a plethora of possible game titles
Do you smell that? The air is filled with the scent of trademark applications and secret meetings and teasing hints. That’s the smell of speculation… and an imminent E3 Expo.
Sony and Microsoft have been busy little beavers over the last few weeks, trademarking five new game titles between them. As with all issues regarding trademarks, it’s important to remember that these applications do not represent confirmation of a game in development, merely a title that Sony or Microsoft may turn into a game someday. That said, let’s get to speculating.
Back in March, Microsoft registered a trademark application with the US Patent and Trademark Office for “Secrets and Treasure.” No additional information was revealed in the filing, but “Secrets and Treasure” has the feel of an Xbox Live Arcade game, doesn’t it? More recently, the consolemaker filed applications for “Screamride” and “Eden Falls.” If I had to guess, I would peg “Screamride” as some kind of racing game and “Eden Falls” as a horror title.
Over at Sony Computer Entertainment, the publisher has filed trademark applications for “Entwined” and “Kill Strain.” While “Kill Strain” sounds like the type of shoot ’em up that people typically equate with Microsoft, “Entwined” definitely has that artsy-but-not-too-artsy vibe of a game published by Sony.
Hopefully we’ll learn more about all of these games at this year’s E3 Expo. And, one more time, it’s important to remember that these applications do not represent confirmation of a game in development, merely a title that Sony or Microsoft may turn into a game someday. And my speculation should just be viewed as guesswork, and does not represent how these games may develop in the future.
Weekly Warp-Up: Post-PAX East 2014 Edition
No, that’s not a typo. Welcome to the Weekly Warp-Up, your weekly wrap-up of the biggest and the best articles posted at Warp Zoned this week…
The 2014 edition of PAX East is in the books and while the show was smaller this year, there was still plenty of announcements and surprises that emerged from the show floor.
For example, did you know that “Expedition” will be the first expansion to TitanFall? Or that Firaxis is hard at work on a spiritual successor to Alpha Centauri known as Civilization: Beyond Earth? Or how about whatever is going on in this first piece of concept art from The Behemoth’s Game 4? If you knew all that, you might also like to know that Super Time Force is just a few weeks away from release and that Soda Drinker Pro (with full Kinect support) will soon be available for the Xbox One.
Our PAX East coverage wouldn’t be complete without our annual PAXpocalypse List honoring “The Best of PAX East 2014.” The Warp Zoned staff picked 11 great games including two we recently previewed: Evolve and Hyper Liht Drifter.
The rest of the Weekly Warp-Up can be found after the break. (more…)
