Gearbox talks authenticity for Aliens: Colonial Marines
The big guns at Gearbox Software have released their first developer’s diary for Aliens: Colonial Marines, entitled “Authentic Aliens.” The interview subjects (including CEO Randy Pitchford) mostly talk about their desire to create a game that is worthy of Ridley Scott’s Alien and James Cameron’s Aliens, but in the process, they show off plenty of new footage from the game as well.
Aliens: Colonial Marines will be available for the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 on February 12, 2013. A Wii U version will also be released sometime next year.
Jay-Z named Executive Producer of NBA 2K13; soundtrack announced
2K Sports has announced that Jay-Z, the biggest name in rap and a part owner of the Brooklyn Nets, will serve as the Executive Producer of NBA 2K13. It would be easy to dismiss this partnership as nothing more than a simple soundtrack gig. But, according to 2K, “Jay-Z’s artistic vision and style will permeate the [entire] experience.” This will include “the overall look and feel of the game” as well as interactive in-game menus, and yes, the soundtrack.
NBA 2K13’s soundtrack will include 24 tracks hand-picked by Jay-Z. The collection includes multiple tracks from the man himself as well as his frequent collaborator, Kanye West. Coldplay, Daft Punk, The Dirty Projectors, Nas, Phoenix, Santigold, and many others also made the cut.
You can check out the complete soundtrack listing after the break or you can head over to 2K’s Facebook page to preview some of tracks. (more…)
XBLA Today: Deadlight

Microsoft’s Summer of Arcade 2012 promotion reaches its mid-way point with Deadlight, today’s addition to the Xbox Live Arcade. Deadlight is available for 1200 Microsoft Points ($15) and is a puzzle platformer with a unique visual look (excuse me, it’s a “Cinematic Survival Platformer”)… and zombies.
The world has ended. There is no hope. No new beginning. Only the survivors. Deadlight follows the journey of Randall Wayne, a man searching for his family across Seattle during the aftermath of a 1980s event that has decimated life on earth. This visually stunning Cinematic Survival Platformer will challenge you to run, jump, climb, and struggle for your life as you look for answers and the ones you love.

PSN Today: Expendables 2, Growlanser IV, War of the Monsters, more
Sad news, Grand Theft Auto III was originally planned to be added to the PlayStation Store today, but it’s been delayed. A new release date will be announced soon. Moving on…
This week marks the start of Sony’s PSN Play 2012 promotion and it begins with a bang with The Expendables 2. The plot of the tie-in game will actually lead into this Summer’s blockbuster movie that stars Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Chuck Norris, Jean Claude Van Damme, and many, many more.
On the PS3 Full Games side of the store, Namco Bandai has added the Burnout-inspired Ridge Racer Unbounded to the PlayStation Store.
Also available this week is a PS2 Classic that is definitely deserving of the label: War of the Monsters. The monster battling game was a bit of a sleeper hit back in the day, but it developed a huge cult following that is sure to be thrilled about it’s appearance among the PS2 Classics.
Finally, Atlus has brought their PSP RPG (yes, they still make those) Growlanser: Wayfarer of Time to the PlayStation Store.
Hit the jump for more information on all of this week’s releases and head over to the PlayStation Blog for more details on all of this week’s new game add-ons. (more…)

The Wii U’s launch date is still up in the air, but that hasn’t stopped D3 Publisher from announcing another launch game. The company has revealed plans to bring Family Party 30 Great Games: Obstacle Arcade to the Wii U this holiday season.
People of the Internet, please try to contain yourselves!

The ESA loves LA! E3 Expo to stay in LA through 2015
After a tense round of negotiations, the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) and the city of Los Angeles have announced that the E3 Expo will remain in LA through 2015.
“The City of Los Angeles is thrilled to welcome E3 back for another three years,” said Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa. “My office was committed to doing whatever it took to keep the largest annual conference that the City hosts here for another three years. I personally joined in the negotiations, and we worked with all parties to ensure the needs of E3 would be met. The City is grateful the Entertainment Software Association continues to view LA, the entertainment capital of the world, as the ideal location for the world’s premiere video game convention.”
The ESA also announced that the 2013 E3 Expo will open on Tuesday, June 11 and run through the 13th.
Weekly Warp-Up: Skydiving Queen Edition
No, that’s not a typo. Welcome to the Weekly Warp-Up, your weekly wrap-up of the biggest and the best articles posted at Warp Zoned this week…
The 2012 London Olympics opened on Friday in particularly bizarre Olympic style. I can’t say I got all of it (how did the teenage boy call the teenage girl if he had her phone?), but I think we can all agree that the Queen skydiving out of helicopter alongside James Bond is pretty awesome. Daniel Craig actually pulled double duty on Friday as Activision announced his participation in the upcoming 007 Legends.
As the nations of the world come together in peace and sport, we asked the question How the PS3 and Vita Can Live Peacefully Together? It’s no secret that Sony’s handheld hasn’t set the world on fire, but is the actual PS3 stealing some thunder from the “portable PS3”? We investigate.
Finally this week, we dug deep into Lollipop Chainsaw’s Pop Culture Yearbook and… oh my god… you wouldn’t believe how many references and allusions we found in there.
So give your best royal wave and hit the jump (don’t forget your parachute) for more of this week’s biggest stories. (more…)
