Ratchet & Clank Collection scheduled for August 28; will include Sly Cooper 4 demo

Sony has announced that The Ratchet & Clank Collection, which contains the first three games in the series remade in glorious high definition, will be released on August 28. All three games will also be available on August 28 through the PlayStation Store as individual downloads.

But you’re going to want to purchase the complete Collection, as Sony will include a demo of Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time with the compilation. The demo will eventually be available to download from the PlayStation Store, but the only way to play it first is with The Ratchet & Clank Collection.

The Ratchet & Clank Collection will be available in stores and on the PSN for $29.99. The individual game downloads will likely be priced at $9.99 apiece.

Paramount files trademark application for a World War Z game

After numerous rewrites and production problems, World War Z will finally shamble into theaters on June 21, 2013. The screen adaptation of Max Brooks’ fantastic novel will star Brad Pitt as a globetrotting United Nations employee who is trying to stop the zombie apocalypse.

It also might become a video game.

Last week, Paramount Pictures filed a trademark application with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for a World War Z video game. More specifically, the trademark applies to “downloadable electronic game program, electronic game software, and video game cartridges/discs.”

If a World War Z game is in production, it would be Paramount’s second major movie tie-in for 2013. The film studio previously partnered with Namco Bandai to develop a Star Trek game alongside J.J. Abrams’ theatrical sequel.

EA confirms Battlefield 4 beta included with Medal of Honor: Warfighter Limited Edition

The Battlefield 4 beta is real. After last week’s Origin leak, EA has confirmed that beta access to Battlefield 4 will be included with every PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 copy of the Medal of Honor: Warfighter Limited Edition.

The Battlefield 4 beta will be available in Fall 2013. A release date for the full game wasn’t announced, but Battlefield 3 launched a month after its beta. So expect a similar schedule for Battlefield 4.

“Though Battlefield and Medal of Honor Warfighter each offer players a completely unique experience, they are united by their underlying technology base – Frostbite. These are two of the hottest shooters, coming together to deliver a one-two punch of action, intensity and shooter entertainment,” said Frank Gibeau, President of EA Labels.

Medal of Honor: Warfighter will be available in stores on October 23.

Sonic Adventure 2 is getting a PSN/XBLA re-release this Fall

Sonic Adventure was released for the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade almost two years ago. Since then, fans have idly wondered when the second game in the series would make its debut as a downloadable title.

Sega put an end to the wondering at Comic-Con this past weekend, where they announced that Sonic Adventure 2 will be released for the PSN and XBLA this Fall.

So let’s see… this means that PSN/XBLA remakes of Nights, Jet Set Radio, and now Sonic Adventure 2 will be available in the next few months. It’s a good time to be an old-time Sega fan.

Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn premieres October 5; full-length trailer released

As promised, 343 Industries and Machinima Prime have unveiled the full-length trailer for Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn at Comic-Con. The almost four-minute video has also revealed an October 5 premiere date for the episodic series. Five episodes will be produced, with a new episode appearing every week, culminating with the November 6 launch of Halo 4.

Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn tells an exciting story of heroism and sacrifice on a scale never before seen in the Halo universe, taking fans back to the beginning of the human and Covenant war and leading into the events of Halo 4. Set against the backdrop of a United Nations Space Command (UNSC) military academy, a group of highborn cadets are training to be the next generation of soldiers in the UNSC’s ongoing war with insurrectionists in the outer colonial planets. Among these cadets, Thomas Lasky struggles with his doubts about this war, and with the burden of expectations he may not be able to carry. As Lasky comes to terms with his potential as a military leader, the terrifying alien alliance known as the Covenant arrives and turns his world upside down. Inspired by the Master Chief, he must decide what it means to be a hero. Halo fans who experience Lasky’s thrilling origin story in Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn will be rewarded with special insights into the story of Halo 4 and the Halo Infinity multiplayer experience.

If you’d prefer to watch Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn in one big chunk, a 90-minute extended version will be included in the Halo 4 Limited Edition, which will also be available on November 6.

Meet Bill the survivalist in the newest trailer for The Last of Us

Naughty Dog’s Comic-Con panel included another trailer for The Last of Us, this time introducing us to Bill, a survivalist and someone who owes Joel a favor:

The masked man turns out to be a new character named Bill, who knows Joel somehow and, as you can see in the cinematic, owes him a favor. What for? Well, we’re not talking about that yet but you’ll definitely be hearing more about Bill and what makes him tick in the months rolling up to launch. For starters, we also revealed that Bill is voiced by accomplished Hollywood actor, W. Earl Brown.

Bill and Ellie don’t get along at first, but the cinematic does set up a fetch quest for some car parts. And don’t worry, the infected appear to be right behind them.

The Last of Us will presumably be released sometime in 2013. Not that any of us want to wait that long.

Mortal Kombat: Legacy returning for a second season

Writer/Director Kevin Tancharoen has revealed that a second season of Mortal Kombat: Legacy is in the works courtesy of the (slightly dorky) video above. OK, “slightly dorky” might be an understatement, but I have to admit, I loved it.

According to Tancharoen, the scripts have been completed and season two will be “all about the tournament.” There will also be “more fighting, more action, and more visual effects.”

There’s no word on how many episodes will be produced or when they’ll debut, but Tancharoen did provide a complete list of kombatants that’ll be making an appearance in season two: Kano, Liu Kang, Raiden, Johnny Cage, Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Sonya, Kung Lao, Kitana, Mileena, Jax, Baraka, Stryker, Shang Tsung, Quan Chi, Ermac, and Kenshi. Flawless scripting!

It’s currently unknown if some of season one’s more high-profile participants, including Michael Jai White as Jax, Jeri Ryan as Sonya, and Tahmoh Penikett as Stryker, will return in season two.
