Daily Scoop: March 29, 2012 – Today’s my Friday
I have tomorrow off! Which means today is my Friday. So that means tomorrow is sort of like my Saturday junior? Or my extra Saturday? Pre-Saturday? I don’t know, but I’m going to lay around all day and get to know my brand new Vita a little better. This Amazon sale is killing me… I can feel my will power crumbling…
Speaking of Amazon, their Deal of the Day in video games today is EA’s MySims Sky Heroes. This PlayStation 3 game is just $6.99 down from $29.99 today, so you might want to grab it!
As far as gaming t-shirts go, there’s just one today… (more…)

Final Fantasy XIII-2 Review: Turn Back Time To Get Your 40 Hours Back

Final Fantasy XIII-2 is a game that has no idea what it’s doing or where it’s going. It’s full of time traveling, paradoxes, role-playing, platforming, and more than a few puzzles to solve. It’s full of changes and alterations, but at the core, it’s very much a sequel – and it shows. It feels like the game is experiencing growing pains, with short bursts of interesting moments infused with utter dullness. Should you take the plunge and go back to Pulse? Or would your money and time be better spent waiting for Operation Rainfall games to hit our shores? (more…)

Daily Scoop: March 28, 2012 – Kickstarter hangover
Wow. In just one day, Cipher Prime got the last $11,000 they needed to fund their new game, Auditorium 2: Duet. Thank you, Internet! For being a place that does have some good people left in it.
What else is up today? I’m glad you asked. Amazon’s Deal of the Day in video games is Activision’s James Bond 007: GoldenEye. Today only, this Wii game is 50% off at just $14.99. Scoop it up!
Amazon’s also having an amazing buy two games, get one free sale. I kind of want to get Chrono Trigger for the DS, and maybe Dragon Age: Origins and Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion for the PS3. But I also want Touch My Katamari and Uncharted: Golden Abyss for the Vita, as well as Kirby’s Epic Yarn for the Wii. Whew. That’s a lotta games!!
On the t-shirt tip, I’ve just got one shirt for you… (more…)
Daily Scoop: March 27, 2012 – Kickstarter edition!
It’s freezing cold today in sunny Philadelphia! March has come back with a vengeance and is reminding us it’s still too early to pull out our jackets. But hey, I know what’ll warm you up: donating money to a good cause! Check out this Kickstarter article about my talented friends over at Cipher Prime. They made my all-time favorite iPad game, Pulse, which you should also buy.
Let’s see, what’s going on today? Oh yeah, it’s an all-day Video Game Gold Box Event over at Amazon! The big deal is $40 off the 320GB PlayStation 3, bringing it down to a ludicrously cheap $259.99. That’s a great price for the system, especially with so much storage!

I’ve also got two game-related shirts for you today: (more…)

Auditorium 2: Duet needs your help on Kickstarter!
Ever wanted to help out an indie company, but you weren’t sure how? Now is your chance. Philadelphia-based indie studio Cipher Prime is trying to fund the sequel to their groundbreaking hit, Auditorium, through the magic of Kickstarter. The sequel, called Auditorium 2: Duet, only has three days left to make another $11,000. I’m going to pledge $30, but I’m torn between which reward I want: the t-shirt, or the extra copy of the game to play with my boyfriend.
Auditorium isn’t an easy game to explain. You “create music by bending dazzling rivers of light and color through brain-twisting puzzles.” Sound awesome? It is. Duet will allow you to solve puzzles cooperatively, which is just as sexy as it sounds.
Technical Director Dain Saint said, “Donations gave us our start; they let us know that people cared enough about our games that we could do it full time. If this Kickstarter works, we’ll know we can keep doing crazy things with reckless abandon.” Creative Director William Stallwood promised he’d give me a lapdance while wearing his jeggings if I helped get them some donations. So, seriously people, it’s time to open up your wallet.
Here’s how close they are: (more…)
Gamers At Work Review: Make Room on Your Bookshelf

Morgan Ramsay’s Gamers At Work delivers a lot of behind-the-scenes information about the video game industry right from the source: the mouths of some of the most powerful and influential people involved in starting and fueling it. Ramsay interviews Nolan Bushnell, Don Daglow, Trip Hawkins, Ted Price, Warren Spector, and a dozen other founders, developers, programmers, and entrepreneurs. More than just a dry question and answer session, Ramsay gets to the heart, asking pointed questions and drawing out interesting – and sometimes emotional – stories. (more…)
Developers From thatgamecompany Hold Court at GameFest

Thatgamecompany was on hand at this weekend’s GameFest at the Smithsonian American Art Museum. President Kellee Santiago, Core Engineer Martin Middleton, Lead Artist Matt Nava, Producer Robin Hunicke, and Community Manager Aaron Grommesh were at a table in the center of the courtyard on Saturday, March 17, signing books and posters and posing with fans. This friendly, down-to-earth group sat and talked with me and a friend of mine, Nikkolai Davenport, who works at indie developer Cipher Prime in Philadelphia, PA. But they did so much more than just sit and talk with us. What we got that day was a unique and memorable experience. (more…)
